How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
- Psalms 133 NIV

Updates Around Shalimar
Our Church Council will meet October 3, at 6pm in the Cross Corner Fellowship Hall. This meeting will provide an overview of some of the plans for the next few months. In addition to hearing updates on the reports about the ministries of the church, we will also be preparing for our annual Charge Conference.
Our Annual Charge Conference will be held October 17, at 6pm at Mary Esther United Methodist Church. This will be a cluster Charge Conference including other United Methodist Churches in our area. There will be worship along with our required reports presented to the Charge Conference.
One of the reports presented to the Charge Conference will be the nomination of officers and setting up our official committees for 2023. I want to thank our Nominations Committee over the last two months for their diligent work in preparing our lay leadership for the new year.
Laity Sunday is coming on October 16. Our Lay Leader, Kyle Wilson, is busy planning a very special Sunday. Kyle is assimilating our laity to lead the roles of worship normally led by our pastors.
Our stewardship theme for this year will be Reaching FORWARD 23! We have some great inspirational teaching from the scriptures, as we prepare our hearts to make new commitments for the coming year. One of the highlights will be our guest preacher, Dr. Karl Stegall, on November 20th. Dr. Stegall, now retired, served twenty-five years as the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
Scams, Scams, and more scams. My name has been used in many scams to some of our members. Whoever these misguided individuals are they pull my name off the church website and manufacture all kinds of stories that are nonsense. Please be aware these are all scams, ignore them, and please do not respond.
These are some of the updates on upcoming events. It should be a great October! Hope to see you Sunday!
Shalom, Philip

Stay Up To Date
with what’s happening at Shalimar United Methodist Church.
On October 2, we are hosting our very own Night of Worship from 5-7pm in the Family Life Center.
We will gather as the early church did around tables and share a meal together. We will have prayers, singing, scripture readings, but the truest act of worship for the night might just be the conversation, relationship building, and sharing together as Jesus has always intended to worship with God.
Empowering the Laity has always been at the heart of the United Methodist Church. We would like to empower our Laity by running a whole Sunday service.
If you are interested in being a part of Laity Sunday on October 16th please reach out to our Lay Leader, Kyle Wilson at (850) 855-9970 or jkkyle12@yahoo.com
On Wednesday, October 5 we are partnering with “Rise Against Hunger.“ It is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable.
We are honored to be working with Rise Against Hunger and on Wednesday, October 5 we will be packaging over 20,000 meals! We cannot do it without you!
Join our MOP’s for a ladies night of spooky fun, Halloween Bunco! Wear your best costume and bring an appetizer to share. There will be prizes, so bring a friend (or 5)!
All ages are welcome. Suggested Donation:$5 7pm in the FLC.
Announcements
Pastor Appreciation month is October of each year and it is my hope that you will join the Tuesday Night Prayer Group and the Prayer Ministry team, in a commitment to pray for our Pastors (Pastor Philip, Pastor Matt, Pastor Brad, and Pastor David) each day during the month.
We hope that we can be a part of your prayer journey this October by praying for our Pastors and the SUMC. We are not asking for a certain time, only that you commit to pray daily for each of the pastors and for Shalimar. It is especially important that we be in prayer during this trying time.
You will be provided with a “31 day Pray for Your Pastors Challenge” to aid you in praying daily. The guide is for the 31 days during the month and will be available for download. I know some of you are already praying for our pastors, and I thank you for doing so.
With all that is happening in this world right now, Prayer is more important than ever. What better way to help do our part in changing the world than to start right here at SUMC. It is my belief that Prayer does make a difference so please join us in praying for our Pastors each day during the month of October. This could very well be the best gift you could ever give to our pastors.
I believe the sky is the limit for churches that pray. Join us. Thank you in advance for your support.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!
We have record numbers the last two weeks and the pantry has been extremely low on almost everything. Last two Wednesdays we have seen close to 80 families each day…. We have also noticed reduced donations to the Bread House. This usually means we give out less items to those in need.
Please consider dropping by donations when it is convenient for you! Bless you!
If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer, contact Janet Norris or Pete Peters. They would love to have you!
