Message by Rev. Matt Langford Worship Led by Ben Savage and The Freedom Team
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.
- Ephesians 4:1-6 NLT

Remember Your Baptism and Be Thankful
This Sunday, January 8, is another special Sunday. January 8 is Baptism of the Lord Sunday. As we move out of Christmastide, on the day of Epiphany on January 6, our next observance is the remembrance of the baptism of our Lord. We move from celebrating Jesus’ birth to remembering His baptism.
After a few weeks of being out of our normal schedule, 8AM, 930AM, 11AM, and 1107AM worship services will resume. As we hear about Jesus’ baptism, we all will be given a chance to remember our baptism. There will also be some teaching about the meaning of baptism.
The baptism of Jesus is recorded in all four gospels. Jesus’ baptism, by John the Baptist, in the Jordan River was not for the forgiveness of sins (as Jesus had no sin) rather; baptism for Jesus was an initiation of His public ministry. Our baptism is also an initiation that lasts for a lifetime. Martin Luther said this about baptism… “Baptism is a once and for all sacrament which takes your whole life to finish.” Baptism has also been called the ordination of the laity. Remembering our baptism is especially significant as we begin a new year.
The opportunity to remember our baptism is for all that have been baptized. Whether we were baptized as an infant, child, young person, or adult all of us are invited to remember our baptism. In our tradition as United Methodists, baptism is considered a one-time sacrament. We can remember our baptism as often, anytime, and especially on Baptism of the Lord Sunday.
What is going to happen on Sunday? After the sermon, everyone will be invited to come forward in a line and reach into a bowl of water for a moment and hear the phrase REMEMBER YOUR BAPTISM AND BE THANKFUL. This physical act will only take a few minutes but it can add meaning all year long.
If you have never been baptized, you will hear some teaching on baptism in the sermon. There will be an opportunity for everyone to sign up to be baptized or to learn more if you are interested. Our pastors would love nothing more than to tell you about baptism and plan your future baptism.
Hope to see you this SUNDAY as we remember our baptism!

Joyful Place
Joyful Place, A Year In Review
Joyful Place opened March 22, 2022. From that date to the end of the year our mission made a difference.
We provided 1860 respite hours to our friends and their families.
Our precious volunteers devoted 2472 hours to serving others.
We had 10 Birthday parties and 9 Chapel Services. Sang 10 thousand songs (this # has been verified)
Laughed 50,000 times. Shared too many hugs to count.
Words, numbers, and pictures cannot truly describe what a vibrant and special ministry we offer at Joyful Place. As Respite for all founder, Daphne Johnston said, “Only in experiencing the love and common bond between Respite Volunteers and friends can you begin to understand the power such a ministry holds. When you’re immerged in respite, when you are fully present and enter engaged relationships with those on the journey with you, you will feel the warmth of God’s healingof physical disease and mental isolation.”
MILITARY MINISTRY
ReBoot is a faith-based combat trauma healing course, designed to address the spiritual wounds of war.
Combat veterans are healing, divorce rates are dropping, medication abuse decreases, and suicide numbers are reducing at ReBoot locations across the country.
