Meet us in the Sanctuary as we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith. Such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and Traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11AM service.
Connect: 9:30AM
Join us in the Sanctuary as we engage in a fourfold service of praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations of prayer, and sending forth. Worship is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
- John 15:1-8 NLT

There is a buzz of excitement in the air! Palm Sunday is here. We will sing “Hosanna.” Our Holy Week journey begins. We will walk in the steps of Jesus. Easter is coming and we will proclaim… “He is risen indeed.”
These eight days are like none other in our Christian Year!
This Sunday, April 9, is Palm Sunday! Palm Sunday is in the top four Christian days of the Year. The other days of course would be Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost. Of all these days, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are linked together by a week known as Holy Week. This week will focus on the I AM saying of “I AM the VINE.”
Holy Week has strong Biblical significance. The four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John have 89 chapters combined. Of these 89 chapters, 29 chapters pertain to the events we know as Holy Week. This means 32.5 percent of the gospels contain stories that span the week from Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem through the Resurrection. So generally, one third of the Gospels contains the extraordinary events of Holy Week.
These events include Jesus’ Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem in which the crowds shouted “Hosanna!” Jesus then moved toward the temple. Jesus was outraged as a house of prayer had been turned into a “den of robbers” … He turned over the tables in holy anger. Jesus condemned the fig tree in these days of Holy Week, and the tree withered. This week also includes the first Lord’s Supper as Jesus met with His disciples in the Upper Room. The emotionally stirring events of this week also include Judas’ betrayal, Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane, Jesus’ arrest, Peter’s denial, Jesus before Pilate, the Cross, the Death, and Resurrection.
Our Seven Deadly Sin study will focus on ANGER. There was anger present in Holy Week. Jesus turning over the tables in the temple in Holy Anger which was good anger. There is also anger that is out of control, such as Peter’s Denial. We will learn more about Anger on Tuesday at 9AM and 6:30PM.
Holy Week at Shalimar UMC will have two special services including Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship both at 6:30PM in the Family Life Center. Our Easter Fest for the children will be Saturday, April 8th, from 10AM-12Noon. WE INVITE YOU TO BE HERE AND BRING FRIENDS TO THESE SPECIAL SERVICES.
Holy Week helps us to prepare for Easter which is now just one week away! We will worship at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00 and 11:07 on Easter Sunday with one more I AM saying! I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE.
Remember the “Unforgettable Sermon” is coming on April 16th. You will not want to miss this year’s message!
Palm Sunday is here, and Holy Week Begins

MISSIONS
MAKING A DIFFERENCE Did You Know?
Safe Connections was a grass-roots project adopted by the 1996 Mission’s Committee. It was originally named the Judge Ben Gordon, Jr. Family Visitation Center and was housed in the old Sunday School space above the SUMC offices for 20 years. Because of the Mission Committee’s community minded spirit, and SUMC’s provision of space, the Visitation Center has grown to three Centers providing over 40,000 safe supervised visits for thousands of vulnerable children in Okaloosa and Walton Counties. Safe Connections is proud of the important role SUMC played in following the teachings of Jesus to reach out to the least of these. Volunteer opportunities are available if you are interested in serving.
