Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre ed om At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a nontraditional atmosphere. Philip’s Focus Post Covid Church Opportunities for a New Era Over the Christmas and New Year's Holidays, I was out of my routine and spent some significant quality time with the Lord. One day the Lord placed on my heart four specifics to place on the congregation's heart. I call these "Post Covid Church opportunities for a New Era." I am sharing with you, so these will be on your heart. Perhaps these four areas would stir you to want to respond and help. 1.
There is an opportunity to organize our congregation's care system better. Why? The priorities of love, care, compassion, and shepherding received through a congregation are needed now as much as ever. It is the best church response following two years of isolation, uncertainty, and fear. One of the greatest needs of all humankind will be making positive connections with other people. The church is the best option for this need to be fulfilled. • In January, we are beginning to reshape and restructure our Congregational Care system for a Grand Plan. It will include ramping up old systems and forming new systems and teams. • We have ten teams currently identified in caring for our congregation of 2,000 plus members and constituents. These groups will clarify roles in the coming weeks and have a joint meeting to complement the overall new Congregational Care System. A GRAND PLAN! 1. Prayer Ministry 2. Stephen Ministry 3. GriefShare 4. REBOOT 5. Respite Ministry (Joyful Place) 6. Threads of Love 7. Encouragement Card Ministry 8. Security Team Ministry 9. A new area for shut-ins/physically compromised 10. Pastors
2.
There is a great opportunity to bring forth the positive message of Jesus Christ for all people. The message of Jesus is good news! Even in difficult times. There is always hope, for God seeks to redeem all circumstances.
•
Let us make 2022 a year of basking in the positive news of Jesus in all that is involved with Shalimar UMC.
• •
3.
Let's make disciples and not just members. Let the new standard be: we invite all to be disciples, which means becoming more like Jesus one day at a time.
• •
4.
Let's have positivity bounce off our walls on campus. Let this positivity in Jesus draw in those in our community and world starved for positivity.
The Discipleship Plan rolls out Ash Wednesday, March 2nd. (after the congregational care "Grand Plan" is fully operational) What do we expect of all people? First, we expect everyone to grow as disciples and seconded to be involved in one hour of worship, one hour of service, one hour of small group/study/devotional a week.
This priority is remembering God is our audience in all we do. A passage from the Apostle Paul makes this point. "Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." Ephesians 6:7 • Pleasing all people is not possible, so we seek to please the Lord, which brings people's favor, creating a deeper unity than approval polls can ever bring. • By making God our audience, we will elevate our worship and purpose together!
You will be hearing much more about these four priorities for the "Post Covid Opportunities for a New Era." Would you join me in prayer for Shalimar UMC as we move into the new year with new opportunities! Shalom, Philip

(https://www.facebook.com/groups/mopsofshalimar) Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)

Blessings for Children The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy! Psalm 126:3 Numbers won’t begin to tell the whole story. So as we close out our third year of serving children in need in our community through our Blessings for Children’s ministry, we thought we would give you a sense of how many children you have helped by your support of our church and this ministry in 2021. Blessings for Children is open one day a week, on Wednesdays, to serve families with children ages infant through 5th grade, and as of this writing, with only one Wednesday left in 2021, we have served 968 children this year. Based on the number of children we have served in the weeks leading up to Christmas (we set a record of 43 children served on Dec. 15th), we believe we will help nearly 1,000 children in 2021!
Serving children means we, through your generosity, have provided needs like diapers, baby wipes, new t-shirts, underwear and socks, personal care items to include lice treatment, and school supplies throughout the year. We served each of those children through at least one adult family member. So that is a lot of people blessed by the mission heart of this church at the #10 2nd Street house! If you drive by on Wednesdays, you may see families waiting outside to come in! You helped us provide Thanksgiving food bags and grocery gift cards to 28 families, and through your Angel Tree giving, we were able to share Walmart gift cards to help 24 very appreciative families. These numbers represent people who had a need and came to our church. Shalimar UMC has served for decades as a beacon of hope and blessings and sharing the love of Jesus in our area. Blessing for Children is a thankful and blessed ministry that opens its doors each week. May we continue to bring glory to our Heavenly Father as we serve Him and His children in the coming year! If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider:
• Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the lookout
for families you can refer to us for assistance. • Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size 4, 5,
and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized tshirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lice treatment kits, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at shalimar-umc.org/blessings-for-children. You can donate items by stopping by the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. •
Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!
•
A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly.
New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required. For additional information Mary Jane Robertson Email: mjr53@cox.net Visit: shalimar-umc.org/blessings-for-children Phone or text: (850) 499-6173 Open every Wednesday 12 - 3:30 pm
