Wors hi p S ervices T rad itions At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre ed om At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a nontraditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Philip’s Focus
“Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.” Thomas Ken 1674 When we stand and sing the Doxology TOGETHER, we are praising for all the good things God has done in our lives! God has blessed each of us and our congregation! As we move into the final weeks of this year, what a beautiful vision it would be for our congregation to stand TOGETHER as one. Especially giving praise for all God has done for us over the last twenty months. One of the reasons to give thanks is your faithfulness in giving the last two years. In March 2020, we had no idea the chaos that was about to transpire. Yet, despite the numerous uncertainties and global gloom & doom proclamations, our congregation has been writing a faith story of trusting God all the more. There are days I would like to shout this praise from the Shalimar rooftop!
We have reasons to praise God for leading our congregation to be spiritually stronger two years later. God’s provision has been steady and even abundant. There are positive and visible signs almost every day around the Shalimar campus of God’s goodness. God is to be praised for this faith story being written before our eyes! Imagine a decade from now, our congregation reflecting on these years of chaos, and giving thanks to those who withstood distractions, stayed loyal, and kept giving of themselves no matter the ominous swirling winds. We will never forget these challenging years and how God inspired our people to greater faithfulness! On Sunday, November 21, our church will be asked to stand TOGETHER and make financial commitments for 2022. In preparation, I invite each of us to pray and respond to God’s goodness. (a card is enclosed that we will use to consecrate our commitments to the Lord) Let us all stand TOGETHER as we move forward into 2022, trusting God! TOGETHER we can do more for the LORD! Shalom, Philip
Dr. Philip McVay, Lead Pastor philip@shalimar-umc.org

A Basket will be out in the FLC and Narthex until Dec 5th for cards, gifts cards, or notes anyone would like to leave for Faith, AJ and Abigail to thank them for the time and talents they all shared here at Shalimar UMC.

Children in Crisis Needs Foster Parents Imagine… it’s 2 o’clock in the morning when police officers arrive at your house to remove you and your brothers and sisters from your parents. A stranger takes you and one sibling to a new home, and the other two siblings to a different home. Though you are now safe, your young mind mostly only registers that you are in an unfamiliar place, in the middle of the night, now without two of the siblings you rely on to help you feel safe. You are disoriented, you are confused, and you are afraid. The Children’s Neighborhood provides homes and care for the abused, neglected, and abandoned children in our community. Since opening the Susanna Wesley Emergency Shelter and the first family foster home (Blessings House) in 2008, we have given a home and loving care to over 1,000 foster children. And our neighborhood homes are designed with the vision of keeping siblings together. Do you have a heart for foster children? Our greatest need at this time is foster parents to live in our homes and care for the children. We want YOU to come and be a foster parent at The Children’s Neighborhood. We will license and train you to care for the children, and come alongside you to provide an array of support including: a large, beautiful home, guidance, on-site educational assistance, vehicles for transporting children, access to our “Kay’s Cupboard” food and clothing pantry, and a monthly stipend to supplement family income. In return, you will experience the rewards that come with knowing you have made a difference in the lives of these children… children who need a parent to restore their hope, facilitate healing of their wounded hearts, and assist their development into resilient, happy, capable young people. If you feel your heart being tugged for this journey, please contact our Director of Operations, Sarah Traver, (850-864-4242 or sarahtraver@childrenincrisisfl.org) to learn more about this opportunity. We welcome you to view our video and complete the Foster Parent Application on our website www.childrenincrisisfl.org. Will YOU answer the call? If not you, then who?

Angel Tree The Angel Tree Christmas campaign will begin Nov 21st-Dec 16th! For those who may not know, the Angel Tree has been a Christmas tradition at Shalimar United Methodist for decades. Through this campaign, our church members graciously give to those families who need assistance in providing for their young children. This year, the giving campaign will change from years past. Traditionally, a large Christmas tree is placed in the Narthex of the sanctuary and the Family Life Center with Angel Tags that can be adopted and shopped for. Gifts are then returned wrapped for each child. This year, after input from many areas of our church and congregation, it was decided we need to change the way The Angel Tree program works and responds to needs of our nominated families.
Instead of focusing on the individual child, we want to include the parents and guardians of the children by providing them gift cards from Walmart. We are asking that our church family donate Walmart gift cards in the amount of $25.00 each. Depending on your budget, you can donate in $25.00 increments. So, if you would like to donate $100.00, you would purchase 4 - $25.00 Walmart gift cards and return them to the Gift Card boxes in the Narthex or in the church office. At the end of the campaign, we will distribute the gift cards in equal amounts to the nominated families from our own congregation and those who are associated with our church family. Thank you for your continued support and generosity at Christmas and always!

Blessings for Children Belts are a Blessing! It was her first time visiting our Blessings for Children ministry, and she had three children who needed blessings we had to share: t-shirts, underwear, socks, personal care items, and school supplies, but then she asked if we could help with a children’s belt. Her children were slim, and their pants were falling because they did not have a belt. I explained we stocked and offered particular items that we hoped would help meet a family’s needs, but unfortunately, belts were not something we had or even something I had ever seen come through our ministry in any donations. She understood and began looking through our Treasure Chest bins while we waited for her items to be gathered by our volunteers. (Treasure Chest bins are gently used clothing or child-related items that people generously share with us; many of those sharers are the families our ministry has blessed.) Suddenly, there was a scream, and I turned to look. She was holding up a children’s stretch belt with the biggest grin on her face! She said it was buried at the very bottom of the bin, and it was exactly what she needed for her children to share. Thank you, Jesus, for knowing and finding a way to provide for every need! If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: • Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the
lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance. • Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size
4, 5, and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lice treatment kits, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at shalimarumc.org/blessings-for-children. You can donate items by stopping by
the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. •
Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!
•
A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly. New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required.
