O ur Visio n Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries through worship, discipleship, and mission.
O ur Missi on REA C H, T EA C H, and SEN D We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Wors hi p Services Break F re e Our Saturday evening service begins at 6:00pm in the Family Life Center. This transformational service involves modern music, multimedia, and a style of preaching that is practical and participatory. Traditions At 8:00 and 11:00am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre edom At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Philip’s Focus Around Shalimar UMC We have exciting things on the horizon for Shalimar United Methodist Church. Let me lift up three for the immediate future. They are Vacation Bible School, our called Church Conference, and the new Service of Healing. Vacation Bible School is June 3-7 where we are blasting off to Mars and Beyond! We appreciate the wonderful preparation and planning by Jennifer Guidoni and her Children’s Ministry Team. Registration is open and the participation promises to be outstanding. We can always use volunteers, so if you can come for the whole week or any particular time at all, please sign up on the Connection Point card, visit sums.io/vbs, or call the church office at 651-0721 All members will want to be sure to be present on June 2nd as we have an exciting master plan to present at our Church Conference. The called Church Conference will allow all professing church members to vote on this plan. This means all professing members of Shalimar UMC have a vote. The Church Conference will convene in the sanctuary at 10:30 am by our District Superintendent Dr. Tim Trent. We look forward to seeing everyone on this exciting day. Let us be in prayer as we take this next step in the administrative process of planning for the future! Our new Service of Healing will begin officially on Sunday June 9th at 12:30 in the Sanctuary. We will claim the promise of James 5:14 “Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.” The service will be for anyone who would like to have others pray for healing, wholeness, and wellness in their lives. We look forward to beginning this new service which will be planned for every second Sunday at 12:30 pm in the Sanctuary. Please spread the word of this new service of healing.

These are just some of the upcoming opportunities at Shalimar UMC! We are a vibrant church and it promises to be a great summer! Thank you for your prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness for Jesus through Shalimar UMC! We look forward sharing all the good things God is doing through our Church! Have a great week! Shalom, Philip Dr. Philip McVay, Lead Pastor philip@shalimar-umc.org
Our Senior Ministry Is on a Roll! Shalimar UMC has been a place for active seniors for years. If you are over 50 and interested in becoming engaged in the life of the church, you have many options: choirs, Sunday school classes, discipleship groups, service opportunities and outreach events, to name a few. Our Friendship Club, offering monthly fellowship meals and outings, has been a staple of church life for 30 years (this September). We are so grateful to all the leaders who have kept it going each year and for the leaders who are dedicated to it now like Ollie Faye Flint and Jon and Kathie Sheperd. The Friendship Club continues to be the signature event for social gatherings midweek. Our one+One Singles group offers time every Monday evening for unattached folks to come together for games, fellowship and food, as well as regularly scheduled outings to restaurants. We also have our Threads of Love knitting group who make knitting with others a lot of fun. Recently, other people have taken the initiative to add social offerings to the life of the church. Nancy Kahrs has organized a “Lunch Bunch” group for people to go out to lunch with each other. So far there are about 40 people involved. Then last Saturday (May 18), the Joy Group had their first pickleball event. About 20 people were there and they all had a “dilly” of a time! We are now talking about organizing games every other week because it’s fun for people of all ages.

Blessings for Children is an SUMC mission outreach to community families with children ages newborn through fifth grades . We have been operating since January 2019 out of the #10 2nd Street home behind the church, and we are open every Wednesday from noon to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers share God’s love and serve His children by providing clothing, personal care items, and school supplies. So far May has brought the opportunity to bless 19 more children. Since opening in January we have served over 50 children and due to your support, we’ve shared diapers, socks, school supplies, underwear, t-shirts, toilet paper, dental supplies, shampoo, soap, and the list goes on! This Sunday, and every third Sunday of the month, you can bless the ministry and children by dropping of any of these items in the narthex or Family Life Center lobby (a complete list of items can be found at sumc.io/blessings). We are happy to shop for the items for you if you would rather make a financial donation to the church (designate it for Blessings for Children). Through this ministry we are making a difference to these children and their families as we share God’s love, pray with them, invite them to participate in our church’s activities and provide real and needed help. Your prayers, your donations, and your gifts, are so appreciated, and we invite you to please stop by on Wednesday afternoons to see what God is doing through this ministry that you support! We would also welcome you as a volunteer!
