CD Land and Cattle Production Sale

Page 1

Welcome

Wow, what an exciting time to be in the cattle business! It’s great to finally see ranchers turning a profit from their hard work and dedication with prices at an all time high and a strong projection for the future. There is so much optimism in our industry both from those that have been around for a while and from the younger generations who are passionate and excited, ensuring a strong future for our industry.

It is bittersweet that this will be our 18th and final bull sale. As many of you know we made the tough decision to disperse our purebred cow herd in December. A choice made after much consideration, as our girls have moved on to pursue their careers, (both staying in the cattle industry) we felt the time was right for us step back and slow down. We are excited to have more time to explore, visit friends and family, and most importantly watch our grandchild grow. Although this is our final sale rest assured, we still stand behind and guarantee our bulls as we have every year so you can bid and buy with confidence. We look forward to seeing you at the farm for our final bull sale.

This year our spring and summer were filled with preparations for the dispersal sale, but we were still able to fit in some family time as well. In July we hosted a 120 party, celebrating the combined 60th birthday party of Doug, and our good friend and neighbour Tom Machacek. We roasted a pig and got to spend some time with family and friends.

In August we celebrated an even bigger milestone as Grandma Ruth celebrated her 90th birthday. We were so grateful for the many friends and family who came from both near and far to spend the afternoon with her. Her time with so many she loved was even more special as she passed away 3 weeks later. We were so blessed to

Welcome from Castlerock Marketing

Welcome to the CD Land & Cattle Quality Counts Bull Sale! It’s been a privilege working with these good folks who’ve been committed to supplying a strong set of bulls for a number of years. The mission statement has always been to produce cattle that have performance from a strong, productive set of cows. Mission accomplished! Buyer row at the auction mart will always welcome cattle with growth and

have as many years with Ruth as we did and her home cooked meals, welcoming hugs, her willingness to give advice (whether you wanted it or not) and her knitted sweaters will be missed by many.

As with last summer one of our highlights was just getting to be grandparents. We have had so much fun taking Kesler for side by side, or tractor rides, or playing trucks on the living room floor, and are very much looking forward to more days spent the same way.

November brought us some excitement as Stacey and Neil (finally) got engaged! We could not be more excited to celebrate with them this summer.

We look forward to welcoming you to our 18th and final bull sale here at the farm. We feel we have a strong line up of heifer, easy calving and cow bulls to add to your operation.

If unable to make sale day Doug, Chad, Castlerock Marketing and the Perlich crew are available for phone in bids sale day and live bidding on DLMS. Videos will be posted on cdlandandcattle.com once available. Snacks and coffee will be on early to give you an opportunity to carefully view all the livestock before the sale. Lunch will be served at noon with the live sale to commence at 1:00 PM. Do not hesitate to call any time prior to the sale with any questions or make arrangements to stop in to have a look at the animals and discuss your purchasing needs.

With the cattle market booming it’s more important than ever to remember Quailty Counts now for your future livestock sales.

HEALTH & FERTILITY

All cows are kept on a year-round Crystalyx mineral program to promote breeding on first cycle and to aid calves in holding a bloom at fall time when pastures begin to dry. Then calves are given Crystalyx mineral to aid them for minimum stress at weaning and to help going onto feed. August 23rd bulls were given Pyramid FP5 + Presponse SQ, Vision 8 Somnus and Solmectine. November 26th they had Clean-Up then on January 16 Solmectine again. We bucket feed these calves every day increasing their quietness and easier to handle. All bulls will be tested, fully guaranteed with scrotal measurements and weights available on sale day.

The time has come for the last bull sale from Doug and Cheryl Domolewski, of CD Land & Cattle. It has been my pleasure to work with The Domolewskis as their herd veterinarian over the last 5 years. Quality cattle driven by passionate breeders has risen CD Land & Cattle to be one of the bull sales to mark down on your calendar. The operation integrates a complete herd health program, strengthening the performance and sustainability of their livestock. The breeding herd receives yearly preventative 8-way clostridial, 5-way viral and scour pathogen vaccination focusing on the health and productivity of the cow-calf herd. At birth calves receive an oral vitamin drench along with intranasal viral and bacterial pneumonia immunizations. At spring turn out and weaning, calves are vaccinated with a 5-way viral with Mannheimia Haemolytica along with a 7-way clostridial with Histophilus Somni. This year marks your last opportunity to add CD Land & Cattle genetics to your operation, grab a herd sire for years to come.

EPD’s are one tool to help and try to predict each bull against its own contemporary group. A note to remember - EPD’s PREDICT group average and offspring’s performance, they DO NOT predict individual performance or weights. They are a value to help predict how the future progeny of an animal will perform relative to the progeny of other animals in the same breed. The EPD numbers will change as more data is collected and are never 100% accurate. Look at the EPDs, but be sure to view actual birth and weaning weights and come look at the shape and size of the bull. We would like to discuss your needs on your operation, go over the bull and the history behind the bull and help you select the sire that will benefit your operation the greatest.

An attractive bull with some look and style. Out of the reputable 234F cow who was the high selling female out of the dispersal. This moderate, easy-fleshing female raised 5 sons, the first we retained and used ourselves, and the others were highlighted as feature sale bulls. With this female ranking in the top 1% of the breed for calving ease and birth weight, here is a bull to add calving ease to your cow herd.

Dam: Red C.D. Princess 234F Maternal Brother Maternal Brother

Out of a young female that has produced two stand out sons so far in her young career. Here is a well-balanced bull with some extra growth, muscle shape and hip. He started off with a birth weight in the mid eighties but is at the top of the bull pen in terms of weight now.

This bull is out of a cow with a legacy of producing feature sale bulls and females, a maternal pedigree with proven growth and performance. His sire, Topham Formula was purchased as a two-yearold for low birth weight, excellent feet and calving ease, but we have also appreciated the growth and rib shape he has added to his calves. 35M is a bull with that dark red, black headed Formula look and with the added performance and growth from this Selena cow.

A moderate-boned bull, safe to use on heifers. Long-bodied and out of a functional female.

We are extremely excited with the line up of Black Angus bulls we have for offer this year. Here is a bull that is more moderate in his make up with a finer bone structure and out of a hard working first calver. This bull is safe to use on heifers but still has plenty of shape and hip. Out of the prominent Lucy cow family.

Hybrid Yearling Bulls

Our hybrid program came about as a response to our commercial customers wanting some cross into their replacements heifers and extra pounds on the steers. We feel the Angus/Simmental cross is a great combination giving you the maternal strength of the Angus with the muscle mass and performance of the Simmental.

Cam & Lynn Morris Open Heifers

We are proud to offer you the Morris heifers once again, a top class of solid red replacements. Anyone that knows Cam & Lynn know the pride taken in their herd and that reflects in the quality shown here. Calves were given Inforce 3 and First Defence at birth, then Bovishield Gold and 7-Way with Somn at branding and then boosted in the fall along with Ivomec. These are a ranchers dream to buy, top quality, home raised heifers with no visible brand.
