OPEN HOUSE FEB 19 @ THE RANCH OXBOW SK

Welcome From LK Ranch...

With much anticipation and excitement we welcome you to the LK Ranch Online Bull and Female Sale. As always, through intensive genetic selection and intensive culling in our cow herd, our offering continues to get stronger and stronger year in and year out. We continue to make it not just our goal, but our duty to make sure the bull pen is as deep as possible. We only have 60 purebred cows and we are presenting you with 26 bulls this year. The most common comments we have received thus far when people have toured the bull pen is “I can’t believe how deep it is.” Or “I can’t believe how much alike they all look.” It’s true, this is a set of bulls that we feel have great potential ahead of them. You can’t ignore the high quality of calves U2 Temptation continues to sire. We are now seeing him raise standouts in other programs as well as our own. The reports are in from several bull customers, his sons calves are long and come easy. Some come with some added birth however, many commercial customers have had great success calving heifers that were bred to his sons. This will also be the last year to own a Packing Heat son. His daughters are very heavy milking and raise big calves. We sold our heaviest group of commercial steer calves to date and they were all sired by Packing Heat. We again used Baldridge Bronc through A.I. We only recieved one bull calf, and he is a dandy out of our matriarch GLK Lady 5Y cow. Our high selling bull last year was sired by Bronc as well. We had anticipated a large group sired by LKR Rippin this year, but unfortunately we had very poor conception with our recips. We only have 1 Rippin son but he is good. Last but most definetly not least we have 16 sons sired by MLG Authoritive 24F. This is the first set of sons to sell and they are damn good. He is the most exciting young sire to have walked our pastures. He has checked every box we look for in a young sire. Authoritive cattle are extremely proud and phenotypically stunning in their design, they are the deep bodied easy fleshing type, excellent haired, and they have tremendous Angus character, all presented on sound foot and leg structure. Every sale bull in the catalogue will be accompanied by their own foot picture and an udder picture of their dam. This year we are only offering up 1 group of 3 commercial heifers on the female side of the sale. All three commercial heifers are full blood Angus and they are all sired by Authoritive. They are flat impressive. The heifers are the strongest set of commercial heifers we have offered yet. They sell as lot 27 in the sale. Plan to join us at our open house on February 19th. The bulls will be penned in smaller pens in the yard so you can get a better look at them. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to call anyone of us. Sincerley Lucas & Kayla Frey

MLG Authoritive 24F

The Story behind Authoritive Authoritive...

I’ll never forget all the motions and miles we put on looking for that perverbial breeding piece known as “the one.” I had arrived home from doing some scouting and I was sitting at the table with Kayla discussing what I had seen in my travels. Kayla suggeested we take a hard look at 8024 in the Glasman sale book. I chuckled and said “ Honey we sell yearlings not two year olds, he could have been “just a bull” at a year of age for all we know”. It didn’t take long to see what she was talking when she handed me Matts Catalogue. She was right as usual he was a total stud! He had a modest 80lbs b.w. and a big time w.w.. I thought it couldn’t hurt to get a second opinion. We called up our good friend Sarah Hasson to get her insight on the Glasman offering, as we knew she had taken the pictures and was doing the sale online. The consensus was unanimous. Sarah was so high on him she may as well told us that it was going to take our first born to own him. So long story short, we don’t see our oldest that much anymore, but we see Authoritve every single day... The day Authoritive arrived home I texted Sarah to let her know we had our Glasman bull home, and nothing more. She replied back with “and.. “ I chose to leave her in suspense. I think I texted back something along the lines of he’s a black bull, and nothing more. Obviously it didn’t take long for the phone to ring. Since that day we have watched Authoritive in amazement, as he has forged his way into the number one spot in our program. We used Authoritive on heifers our first year with good success. We have found Authoritive in his first year of breeding to stamp his calves with excellent hoof and leg structure, loads of hair and vigor at birth, eye appeal out the guzoo, tremendous fleshing ability and the ability to make every calf special. Authoritive bred cattle are so proud. As we are calving Authoritive bred cows for a second year we can tell you with confidence what his calves are doing. *On cows, the bull calves come low to mid 90s. If the cow typically has big calves, they may sneak into the low 100s. *On cows the heifer calves come low to mid 80s. If the cow typically has big calves they can get into the 90s. *On heifers the bull calves come in the mid 80s *On heifers the heifer calves come in the mid to high 70s. You can imagine how we felt this summer when we received the phone call that someone opened our gate and let the cattle out. (atleast they were nice enough to coil the rope up and hang it on the gate post, and open the gate wide open so the cattle wouldn’t tangle up in it).Upon our arrival sure enough Authoritive and his group of commercial cows had found themselves across the road with Temptation and his group of commercial cows. We couldn’t believe our eyes. Authoritive was hurt real bad. It appeared as if he had damaged his fentlock joint real bad in a badger hole scraping with Temptation. We loaded him on the trailor with a hot wire and brought him home. At first glance our vet told us he was done. But after xrays we found no break. It took 3 months and a load of care before Authoritive started walking properly again. I remember telling our vet what ever it takes... There is no cost too high, we owe it to the breed and the industry. We believe he is that good. This pictures was taken just last week. You can see looking at him that you cant stop this guy from being great. Lots 1 through 16 bulls are sired by Authoritive, along with Lot 27 the group of commercial heifers. This is the strongest deepest sire group we have ever put on offer. It’s time to get your bull pen Authoritized for breeding season!

LKR Master 42J

Master is a bull that has always had a presence about him. Not often you’ll find a bull as deep as Master with as much rib shape as he has. The MVF Tiger daughters are exceptional cows. They have tremendous udders, hoof structure, and their ability to mother is second to none. There has been many days we have second guessed ourselves selling this bull. We did not take this calf to Agribition as we didn’t feel we could put two other calves beside this guy. We feel Master is the type of bull that will work in the heifer pen as well as on cows. 123D is quickly navigating her way to the top end of our program. She just calved to Authoritive not even a full hour ago and had an 85lbs heifer calf. BW Aug 30 Dam % Jan 19 B.W. W.W. Y.W. Milk 94lbs WW weaned weight Feb 3/21 800lbs 56.8% 1261lbs +2.8 +50 +87 +23

Mustang has one of the best birth to weaning spreads around. I can’t say enough good about our old 5Y cow. Her lineage is elite in every way imaginable. They have excellent udders and hoof structure, they are tremendous moms, and they always raise good ones. 5Y has a big hip and an excellent hind quarter. Mustang is no exception. Mustang was part of our class winning pen of 3 bulls at CWA. This bull is a beast that you can use on cows or heifers. Bronc was the sire of LKR Game Changer 2H who was our high selling bull last year. Bronc semen is very difficut to get ahold of and recently demanded over $300 a dose in the OBI Frozen Genetics sale. Take a hard look at 14J, he reminds us of Game Changer in many ways. This bull has Herd Sire written all over him. 5Y has sons that have sold to Calvin Reykoal, McGee Livestock, and Randy and Lee Zaremba, along with placing three exciting daughters in our herd; 12C, 52F, and 113G. 12C raised Scarlet the heifer calf that demanded $8500 in the Angus Collection. 52F won several banners for my nephew Dylan, and was the youngest cow ever to enter our flush program. We are currently waiting for a couple of 52F x Rippin Embryo calves to be born. 113G has lot 19 in the sale. If you are in search of a herd sire this year that checks every important box, you need not look any further. This bull is one of the several sale features, no doubt.

68T is a beautiful old girl that did a heck of job on our one and only Rippin calf this year. We were anticipating having a few Rippin sired calves to offer, but unfortunately our recips let us down. 68T has raised sons that sold to TKL Farms, McGee Livestock, and a daughter to Southland Angus to name a few. Ring Creek Flynn 25A 17J is an exciting Packing Heat son. His dam has always been excellent for B.W. Last year her Entice son Bar-E-L Packing Heat sold to Brian Geisel. Low birth with big grow in an attractive package, is what 17J brings to the table. I DFCC 33T Big Sexy 45Y would not hesistate to turn this guy loose with my heifers. 14C has always been one of our favourite Tiger daughters. It doesn’t matter how you breed her she proRing Creek Flynn 25A duces. Last year her Temptation son sold to Adam and Darla Knutson of Clay Enterprises. As I was typing I had to break to go bring her and her new 84lbs Authoritive heifer calf into the barn. 14C has two Bar-E-L Packing Heat retained daughters in our herd as well. Sharp Shooter has a tremendous hair coat, a sound base and does DFCC 33T Big Sexy 45Y alot right. Lot 25

What can I say about 94B, other than this tank of a cow excites me. She never misses on the quality end of things. Last year her son LKR Hulk sold to Murray and Lee Buchanan. Murray and Lee always find the good ones. This year Smokin Guns 46J was under the weather and still pulled off a class win as part of our one pen of bulls at CWA. 94B never misses the mark with her progeny, no matter who you breed her to.
