n an effort to reduce the amount of non-recyclable materials put in residential curbside recycling carts, Mecklenburg County Solid Waste is offering free residential Recycle Right presentations. During Waste and Recycling Workers Appreciation Week, County Residential Recycling Educators will present an informational webinar at 6 p.m. on June 15. Can you spare 40-minutes to learn how to recycle right and make our solid waste system more productive? In less than an hour you will receive an overview of the county’s residential curbside recycling process; the challenges and costs of improper recycling and how residents can help; what is and is not recyclable; an interactive fun game to solidify learning and clarify common misinformation; and a Q&A session. Non-recyclable items (wishful recycling) annually cost the county $1.9 million. Educating and encouraging our community to recycle correctly are county priorities that will improve job conditions for local solid waste and recycling workers.
