Milton as Installation by Katie Pearl, co-creator and director of the play The project found itself in Providence, RI in December-as we put up the show as an installation at the beautiful Granoff Center Cohen Gallery on the Brown University Campus. We used the installation as a chance for Jim Finley (videography) and Brendan Connelly (sound) to explore the ways sound and sky video can interact during the show. The gallery was set up with all the elements we use in the show: floating clouds, tables with Milton artifacts and pictures, and models of buildings in each Milton. But instead of having audience chairs for people to watch actors, we filled the space with comfortable couches and lawn chairs... so after dark, people could come in, relax, and do some Milton sky-gazing. The gallery has a wall of windows: the big floating squares of daytime Milton skies were absolutely luminous against the real night sky. It was a great chance for non-Miltonians to get a view into the project, and to the complex and varied lives of Miltonians across the country.
Happy Holidays!
