BYCar Partnership Adds Insurance Help
BYCar participants in 2022 will benefit from a new partnership between LCCAA and Ohio Means Jobs Lorain County.
BYCar helps income-eligible clients to purchase a used vehicle while learning savings strategies and vehicle care. Eligible clients use their earned income toward a vehicle purchase.
The program matches participants funds 3 to 1 (match ceiling is $3,999). Participants attend a onetime financial literacy course as well as review costs of owning a vehicle and the value of continued savings.
The partnership with OMJ will fund cars for 10 participants and include funding of their first year of automobile insurance.
“Every dollar counts for BYCar participants,” said Planning and Community Services Director Bobby Taylor. “Saving for a car can be difficult for them. The State of Ohio requires car insurance so we cannot help them purchase their car until they have insurance. This partnership removes another barrier for low-income people in Lorain County.”
Income can be earned from employment, self-employment or a combination. Residents interested in participating can learn more at www.lccaa.net/programs/bycar or contact Client Services Specialist Amy Steele at 440-204-3121 or asteele@lccaa.net.
