Editor Notes

GRATITUDE AND THANKFULNESS THE OXFORD DICTIONARY DEFINES THE WORD GRATEFUL AS “SHOWING AN APPRECIATION OF KINDNESS.” THIS IS WHERE THE DIFFERENCE LIES; BEING THANKFUL IS A FEELING, AND BEING GRATEFUL IS AN ACTION. ... GRATITUDE IS MORE THAN JUST THE FEELING OF THANKFULNESS. THANKFULNESS IS SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE AGREE IS GOOD, BUT IT OFTEN REMAINS AN ABSTRACT POSITIVE, SOMETHING WE KNOW IS BENEFICIAL BUT CAN’T NECESSARILY EXPLAIN WHY. WE TEACH OUR KIDS TO SAY THANK YOU AND PLEASE, BUT OFTEN FORGET TO TREAT GOD WITH THE SAME RESPECT. WE PRAY, ASK, BEG, SAY PLEASE AND WHEN OUR DESIRES COME TO FRUITION WE FORGET TO COME BACK AND SAY THANK YOU. SEEING THE LEPERS IN LUKE 17, AS AN EXAMPLE, ONLY 1 OUT OF THE 10 BLESSED AND HEALED BY JESUS CAME BACK TO EXPRESS THEIR GRATITUDE. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE CHRISTIAN TO KNOW HOW AND WHY GOD WOULD CALL SOMETHING GOOD, SO AS WE LOOK AT THE SPIRITUAL BENEFITS OF THANKFULNESS, MAY IT HELP YOU TO DEVELOP A HEART THAT OVERFLOWS. IT HELPS TO LOVE GOD BACK! 1ST THESSALONIANS 5:18, TELLS US, “GIVE THANKS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES; FOR THIS IS GOD’S WILL FOR YOU IN CHRIST JESUS.” (NIV) SO OFTEN WE FIND OURSELVES WANDERING AROUND, WONDERING WHAT GOD’S WILL FOR OUR LIVES IS WHEN SO MUCH OF IT IS CLEARLY REVEALED IN THE SCRIPTURES. IT IS GOD'S WILL FOR US TO BE THANKFUL IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT THIS CAN BE MOST DIFFICULT WHEN OUR WORLD COMES CRASHING DOWN. GOD DRAWS NEAR TO US IN THE MIDST OF OUR PAIN, BUT WHEN SORROW IS THICK WE AREN’T ALWAYS SURE HOW TO LOVE GOD. 1ST JOHN, 5:3 MEETS US WITH. ”IN FACT, THIS IS LOVE FOR GOD: TO KEEP HIS COMMANDS...”IT’S A FORM OF WORSHIP. THANKFULNESS IS A VITAL PART OF LIVING OUT WORSHIP. IT IS AN ENCOMPASSING BIBLICAL AND SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE THAT HOLDS ITS OWN THEOLOGICAL ROOTING AND OFTEN PRESENTS AS AN OUTPOURING OF LOVE. WE SEE IT AS WE READ THE PSALMS (100:4). WE SEE IT IN THE PROPHETS CARRYING HARD TRUTHS IN ISAIAH 63:7, WE SEE IT IN JESUS, THE AUTHOR, AND PERFECTER OF OUR FAITH, JOHN 11:40 – 42. A TRULY THANKFUL PERSON LEARNS HOW TO TRAIN THEIR THINKING TO JUMP TO GRATITUDE INSTEAD OF GRUMBLING. IT IS A PRACTICE OF SEEING AND BEING GRATEFUL FOR GOD’S PRESENCE IN THE MOMENT, INSTEAD OF STRIVING, STRUGGLING, AND BEING ENSLAVED BY THE URGENT AND BY FEAR. WE GROW IN OUR FAITH WHEN OUR MIND EMBRACES THE DISCIPLINE OF PAUL’S INSTRUCTION IN PHILIPPIANS 4:8, “FINALLY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS NOBLE, WHATEVER IS RIGHT, WHATEVER IS PURE, WHATEVER IS LOVELY, WHATEVER IS ADMIRABLE—IF ANYTHING IS EXCELLENT OR PRAISEWORTHY—THINK ABOUT SUCH THINGS.” I FIND MYSELF THANKFUL EVERY DAY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE GOD’S PRESENCE IN MY LIFE AND FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO SHARE MY HEART AND THOUGHTS WITH YOU; GOD IS MY REDEEMER AND HEALER, AND MY BEST FRIEND, AND EVERY DAY I AM THANKFUL FOR HIS LOVE AND WISDOM SHARED. AMEN MUCH LOVE AND LIGHT, MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS SHARON GULLEY

On September the 25th, 2021 the Unstoppable You Conference came to Jacksonville, Florida and they Inspired, Encouraged, and Motivated their attendees to be their very best. They spoke about when we are at our very best in every relationship; we can be Healthier, Happier, and Fulfilled. This incredible event offered tools to face family and community challenges with clarity, confidence, and courage. The UYC Presenters spoke to the attendees about how we as individuals or groups, can be a valuable asset to our communities and they provided a beautiful, spiritual atmosphere while building bonds with each other and their attendees. The Presenters were enjoyable and informative about helping others to become Unstoppable through speaking on Mental Health Awareness, Human Trafficking Awareness, Domestic Violence Awareness, Spiritual Awareness, and Overcoming adversity at any level. This Powerful Event will be something I will always remember and was touched by these Presenters' Powerful Purposes and messages shared. Breakfast and lunch were provided for the attendees and they were serviced by Carrie 'CeCe' Cox of CeCe's Kitchen Catering and Event Manager at Friday MUSICALE; a Top-notch local Catering Service here in NE Jacksonville, Fl. The food was fresh and phenomenal. The presentation of the tables and their beautiful personalities sd well as their service made the event even more enjoyable. The Amazing Vendor Sabrina S. Bordley set a beautiful table of stunning Jewelry and clothing supported by her Boutuiqe SHB Beauties and Bosses. Amazing color and personalities in clothing as well as Jewelry to meet any expectation. Sabrina's professionalism and great personality made it a joy doing business with her. UYC brought their A-game when it came to Educating, Empowering, and Inspiring attendees to grow personally and professionally in all areas of their lives and communities. As an attendee, I was impressed by the Host & Presenters' Educational Presentation as well as their spiritual love for all who attended. The ministering message was straight to the heart, as well as, the love from the family of the Host, she shared with everyone. BE'OF Magazine Wishes UYC Ministries much success well into the future and all the representers of these noteworthy causes. It is an honor to have met all these Amazing Women and men and to have had the chance to experience this Amazing Event.

Natashia Evette Hagans “Fall can be happy or sad”

The leaves are falling You feel the crunch as you step on them The mural of colors they bring Red, yellow, orange, and green Folks drinking apple cider Listening to kinfolks old melodies The pies Pumpkin, sweet potato, and French apple pie The stacks of hay All sorts of pumpkins aligned

But fall can also bring sadness It can be heavy Seasons can represent different stages of life Fall representing letting go Letting go of what no longer serves us Or growing through the process Fall can be heavy Letting all of us know what the past season taught us

So whether you are in a happy or sad season during this fall Let Gods love fall down on you Plant your feet into the leaves Anchor yourself and breath

Sherry Hicks A Woman With much of life chronicals, unrecognized was always the Woman struggles. A woman behavior is rarelt written; having a voice was totally forbidden.

A woman should always be stylish and exceptional, and don't forget thin, that is conditional. A woman should be able to live her, but that is not traditional is she becomes a wife.

All women wants is to feel phenomenal, but somehow xociety has made that appear to be abnormal.

Only a weakling would torment a woman, for a perpetrator belives that abuse is common. A humorous woman is of value; but a brilliant woqamn demonstrates power.

An intelligent woman is a blessing, but an intelligent and virtuous woman will keep you guessing.

Bravery, surrender, will-power, compassion, and obligation. This is the background of women salvation.

We women are emerging persist ent; unyielding and able-bodied, with courage. All of these form together to createour image. Our greatest strength is our expression, and our will to be heard is our passion.

BUT- if you just take the leap and ASK- what if you get a yes? Can you imagine the possibilities?" Running Hindi's Libraries without any staff, office or full time support has been one of the most challenging but motivating experiences of my life. Everyone has the ability to do good, we just need the willpower to make it so."

Author Spotlight Interview On Sandi Kern Tell us more about you. I’m Sandi Kern and I live in SW Pennsylvania, with my husband and two sons. I’m an International Best Selling Author, Speaker, and Integrative Nutrition and Functional Wellness Coach. I earned my certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and am currently studying functional medicine through The School of Applied Functional Medicine. I am devoted to sharing my success in recovering from multiple food sensitivities, gut imbalances, and autoimmune illnesses. In my virtual coaching business “Desire To Be Well”, my unique approach to wellness covers mind, body, and spiritual transformation. I also share cutting-edge health information, ways of healing through self-love techniques, life balance, nutrition, and finding the “root cause” of my client’s dis-ease. my clients have resolved many autoimmune issues, chronic health conditions, food sensitivities, and overcome emotional obstacles. My love of healthy cooking came about while recovering from my own life-threatening and debilitating inflammatory health issues related to food sensitivities and gut imbalance. Learning how to cook and prepare nourishing food for both myself and my family became a labor of love and has become a signature in my coaching and popular social media groups.

What inspired you to write your book? After many years of sharing my yummy recipes and inspirations on my social media page, so many followers asked me “when are you going to write a book?” During the first phase of the Covid-19 lockdown, I like many others returned to the kitchen for comfort. Our wellness kitchen is always a place of joy and inspiration, and I’ve always wanted to share with the world my ideas on Integrative nutrition, and functional wellness. During a conversation with Janis, my friend, and accountability buddy from IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition), she encouraged me to share my unique vision and offered to help me get started with my book. The rest is history!

What do you want others to get out of your book? I want to help people understand that the ultimate act of self-love is to nourish your body with the nutrition it needs to thrive. I meet people where they are and introduce the concept of healthy swaps to make a difference in the way they view food and their diet. Redefining what healthy tastes like!

Who is your audience? These recipes are created with your cravings in mind. My audience is anyone who wants to improve their health by learning a lighter and healthier way to cook their favorite meals for themselves and their family. Also for those who are looking for ways to balance mind, body, and spirit improving their quality of life thriving in every way!

Are you planning another book? Absolutely! I’m already a third of the way into book two!

Where can we get your book? It’s available through my website desiretobewell.com or Amazon. Desire To Be Well- Recipes & Wellness for Health and Happiness

What is one thing you would tell others if they want to write? Feel the fear do it anyway! The world needs your inspiration.

This Beautiful Journal is Inspiring and Encouraging to all women.

Author Spotlight On Prof. Joy Ada Onyesoh This book “ The Girl Who Dared to Dream” is inspired by my many interactions with a number of women. I see that some have lost hope and given up on their dreams or stopped dreaming because of the pressures of life. I want to encourage you to keep holding on and to keep dreaming. The future you desire starts from a dream. If you can dream it then you can achieve it. No dream is too small or too big, you just need to be determined to show up and consistently play full out until you get to that desired destination. I hope that this book will keep you inspired and ignited to travel the long haul. Remember you just have to dare to dream and then be patient to call your dreams into manifestations. I shared aspects of my life journey in this book and I know that someone will have their dreams come alive as a result of engaging with this book. Whenever I look back through the years, I sometimes have tears of joy running down my cheeks knowing how far I had to travel to get here. It has really been a journey of curves, turns and twists. On many occasions, I thought of throwing in the towel and settling for less because I lost sight of how much my dreams meant to me. Each time this happened I had the opportunity of crawling back to a place of commitment. I don't take this for granted at all. I cannot ignore the role of grace and favour of God upon my life because he knows that my dream will birth and nurture so many other dreams. So I ask, what is the motivation for your dream? Who do you serve with your dream? These are rhetoric questions, which only you can sincerely answer. As you read through the pages of this book, I want you to be inspired to take solution-driven actions to birth your dream. Start from where you are, there is never a perfect time to start. While at it be comfortable with making mistakes and learning lessons along your journey. I look forward to the transformations that this inspired book will birth.

Holiday Recipes Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie Bars

Prep Time 15 mins Cook Time 40 mins Total Time 55 mins Servings 16 servings

If you love pecan pie and you love chocolate, then wait until you try these chocolate chip pecan pie bars! Pecan pie is really a thing of beauty. One of those indulgences that you don’t have often, and savor when you do. It is so rich and decadent and over the top in the very best way. Because it is so rich, I love making it in bar form, where you can cut the bars into little bite-size pieces. I like to throw chocolate chips in, because, well, chocolate chips make everything even more amazing. So Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie Bars are where it’s at my friends'. INGREDIENTS 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup 1 stick butter, cold, chopped into approximately 1/4" size pieces 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 3 large eggs 3/4 cup corn syrup 3/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons butter melted 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips 2 cups pecans INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly spray a 13"x9" pan with non-stick cooking spray. In a food processor (or with a pastry cutter/pastry blender), combine flour, butter, and brown sugar until dough becomes crumbly and starts to stick together. Gently press into the baking pan. Bake crust layer for approximately 13 minutes or until very lightly browned. Remove from oven. In a mixer bowl, combine eggs, corn syrup, sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir in melted butter, followed by pecans and chocolate chips. Stir until well combined. Pour mixture onto crust layer. Bake for approximately 25-30 minutes or until browned and set. Cool completely. Cut and serve. NOTES Recipe adapted from Nestle. Butternut Squash Soup

This is one of my favorite holiday homemade soups. It is a delicious, all-veggie healthy butternut squash soup with ginger, sage, and rosemary. This is, basically fall in a bowl. it’s creamy and nourishing, perfect for satisfying cozy fall cravings. With only 10 ingredients, it’s easy to make, so cook a big batch today, and enjoy the soup all week long! Happy fall. Recipe Ingredients To make this easy butternut squash soup recipe, you need 10 simple ingredients: Butternut squash – This soup packs in 3 pounds of squash, so look for a medium-large one at the store or farmers market. If you don’t have a scale at home, I recommend weighing the squash when you buy it! Yellow onion and garlic – These veggies add delicious depth of flavor. (optional) Fresh sage and rosemary – I don’t reach for rosemary as often as some other fresh herbs, but I absolutely love it here. Along with the sage, it makes this soup cozy and complex. Ginger – Its warm flavor highlights the autumnal taste of the herbs and squash. Extra-virgin olive oil – 2 tablespoons add the perfect amount of richness. Vegetable broth – Because the blended squash becomes creamy on its own, there’s no need for dairy, coconut milk, or nuts here! With veggie broth as its base, this is a vegan butternut squash soup recipe. Salt and freshly ground black pepper – Add them with the onion at the start of the cooking process, but make sure to taste and adjust at the end as well. That way, you’ll make a soup you really love First, chop the veggies! Sauté the onion until it becomes translucent, add the squash, and cook until it begins to soften. Then, stir in the herbs, garlic, and ginger. Pour in the broth and simmer until the squash becomes tender (about 20 minutes.) When the squash is soft, transfer the soup to a blender. Blend until the soup is vibrant orange and creamy. Finally, pour it into bowls, garnish with chopped parsley and pepitas, and enjoy!
