MARKET TRENDS: The New “Must-Haves”

T

he global pandemic has shattered countless plans, transformed homes into offices and makeshift schools, and reshaped virtually every part of our lives. It’s also very quickly shifted the priority list for home buyers. More square footage, a home office (or two), and outdoor space are now all top-of-mind. Must-have features include gym space— people now want room for both their Peloton and their desk. Backyard features such as patios, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, gardens, pools, and screened-in porches have all gained more appeal. Open layouts are starting to give way to more defined spaces where parents and kids alike can focus without distraction. Younger buyers and their downsizing parents are looking for turnkey, recently updated homes and are craving bonus spaces—areas that are separated from the normal flow of the home such as an all-season porch or a nice finished basement. People used to come home from work and unwind on the couch—but now working from home they want a separate and distinct area to disconnect. As trends evolve, I’ll keep you updated on Facebook and Instagram. And remember, whether you have a move planned or not, I’m always happy to have a conversation with you about what renovations and improvements will make you and yours feel more at home. n

A beautiful way to incorporate a home gym into a guest room!

ABOVE I love how this bar height table adds dual purpose to this basement family room. I had a similar one made when I remodeled my own basement. This one is from Stockton Heritage on Etsy.
