COLOR TRENDS: The New Neutrals

WITH THE

STARTING

TO CHANGE COLOR,

and thoughts turning to cooler weather, it’s a great time to consider a color change for your interior, too! This month, as part of an ongoing series here in our newsletter, we are focusing on the latest color trends in neutral palettes. We all know neutrals have been on top of the trend charts for some time and will continue in popularity; however experts are predicting they will be warmed up with buttery and blush undertones in 2024.

Sue Wadden of Sherwin-Williams states one reason warmer neutrals are currently loved by designers has to do with lighting. “When we talk to designers, a lot of them mention that LED lighting really impacts color. It makes things much cooler, so you see the rise of warmer colors when you have to counterbalance all that coldness.” We see the same issue in the homes we stage to sell, and the right paint does help. One of our favorite shades for this is Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee. Ready to be a little more bold? Next month we’ll share how rich deep colors can be used as a high contrast to your neutrals. n —

A Garden Wish, Granted!

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITIES is so important to us here at The Burhop Group, we made it part of our mission. So when we learned about a grant program available from our own Mainstreet Organization of Realtors, we immediately started to brainstorm ways we could utilize it to make a big impact. To be approved and awarded the grant, the project had to:

1. Be available for public use;

2. Create something new;

3. Be located outdoors; and

4. Be completed by the end of 2023.

We knew it would be a challenge to meet all the criteria with such a short deadline and decided we would need to partner with a local agency who had a project on their “wish list.” Northwest Compass had wanted to develop a community garden, and they had the land necessary for the installation, but lacked the funds.

With the help of our team, Northwest Compass was able to receive a $22,000 grant to create a new “Living and Giving” garden. The space will include container, vegetable, and cut flower gardens; water features; accessible pathways and benches for public access; native plants; a bee pollinator garden; bird feeders; demonstration space for educational opportunities; seasonal displays; and our own personal favorite—a Toad Abode (see inset at left— you can learn how to make one on our website)!

The intent and hope are that the garden will serve as a respite for community members and provide educational opportunities for growing food and cultivating gardens for the public for years to come.

One of our favorite family outings is going to Oktoberfest this time of year, and we had great fun watching our friends’ drum and bugle corp Fanfaren Chicago perform at the fest in Mount Prospect. They are a community organization dedicated to keeping German Karneval traditions alive in Chicago. Check out their schedule at karnevalchicago.org or on Instagram @fanfarenchicago. n — S.B.
