WELCOME TO HOMER GLEN

Fall may be a busy time of year in Homer Glen, but it’s my favorite With our fall fests and pumpkin farms, visitors from near and far can experience a wholesome, cinnamon-spiced, family-friendly season right here in Homer Glen Even the Events Department at Village Hall likes to get in on the fun with their fall activities like Scarecrow Walk and Trunk or Treat They added two more activities to the events roster this season – a fall Kids Fishing Derby and a Movie Under the Stars night to kick off Spooky Park and the candy-filled month of October All of this is happening at the tail-end of our summer events season, which saw Homer Glen’s first community parade through Heritage Park We were so appreciative of the community organizations, local businesses and volunteers who joined forces to make the parade a success

In addition to our many parks, events, and recreational opportunities, Homer Glen offers convenient retail shopping with a mix of big brand names and local businesses, restaurants, and services Business retention and occupancy rate is at an all-time high –proving that business is good in Homer Glen

Commitment to the environment also thrives in this village This past year when Will County began to make plans to widen the Hadley Road/Parker Road corridor, Homer Glen residents strongly supported maintaining the existing roadway profile, the environmental

features adjacent to the roadway, and its historic/scenic character. Through a series of public forums and special meetings, the Village Board worked with the Will County Board on behalf of the residents to formally take ownership of the corridor and preserve the historic route

The Village Board in Homer Glen places a priority on listening to residents and taking action that is aligned with community values We know communication is a two-way street, so we have been working diligently to provide as much information as we can about village issues and potential Village Board activity through our communication channels

One of which is the new village alert system

Signing up for it is easy on the village website under “Sign Up for Alerts.”

Another communication channel we are working on is a welcome bag initiative for new residents The bags will contain important village information and will give our local businesses a chance to introduce themselves through promotional material

New residents should expect to receive those bags soon

Our village is young, but has a lot of enthusiasm for where we are going and what opportunities lie ahead As we continue to work on strengthening the infrastructure, policies, and amenities offered to residents, we encourage you to take advantage of all we have to offer now

Christina Neitzke-Troike Mayor

ABOUT HOMER GLEN

Incorporated in 2001, Homer Glen is one of the newest communities in northeast Illinois As a young municipality, the village strives to make smart decisions about development, keeping the “Community and Nature in Harmony” at the heart of that growth

Homer Glen is currently home to a diverse mix of small businesses and nationally recognized brands

The convenience of the 143rd Street/Bell Road business district makes it a primary shopping area for residents of Homer Glen and neighboring communities. Shoppers will find two big box home improvement stores, three major grocers, local and national chain eateries, and dozens of other retail, service, banking, and personal care businesses

Homer Glen’s welcoming business environment has even attracted two multi-state companies headquartered in the village

While the village has experienced development over the years, its rural heritage still shines with several agritourism businesses

Pumpkin farms offering events and attractions are a huge regional draw Beautiful garden centers, farm stands, and horse farms also attract people from near and far Some other unique businesses in Homer Glen include rural lifestyle retail, art glass design, landscape design, custom home builders, and home improvement contractors

A second central business corridor along 159th Street, which was widened to four lanes a few years ago and includes an I-355 interchange, is primed to be the economic engine for the community. The five-mile corridor has hundreds of acres awaiting strategic development

ABOUT LEMONT

Lemont was officially incorporated as a municipality on June 9, 1873 The village celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2023 in collaboration with businesses, schools, existing events, and more

Our history sets us apart from other communities with a downtown dating back to the building of the Illinois & Michigan Canal with stories of yesteryear that would intrigue even the novice history buff

As the Canal was being built, newly immigrated Irish, German, and Scandinavians, along with French and English laborers came looking to the area for a new life While digging the canal, dolomite limestone was discovered that led to the development of the stone quarries This became one of the chief building materials used in many landmark buildings, including the Chicago Water Tower, Holy Name Cathedral, and the Illinois Capitol Building in Springfield.

Now you can explore the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area, a 100acre nature park to hike, bike, picnic, bird watch, boat and fish with a 6-mile crushed stone marked trail Take a guided tour of the quarry area in the spring or fall with the Lemont Historical Society Call 630257-2972 for available dates and times

Our quaint downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places Take a guided tour with the Lemont Historical Society (call 630257-2972) and walk along the streets of the infamous Smokey Row strip, which was wilder than Dodge City back in the day Pick up a self-guided tour booklet and map at Smokey Row Antiques, 112 Stephen Street, and discover the many preserved historic sites, charming limestone buildings, murals, and public art displays

After your tour, experience the flavors and flair in our many oneof-akind restaurants ready for any palate Mingle with the locals at our mix of longtime taverns and pubs Shop in our distinctive boutiques and quaint shops nestled within late 19th century buildings And, if you’re up for it, head over to The Forge: Lemont Quarries for climbing and ziplining or grab a craft beer at Pollyanna Brewing Company Enjoy all we have to offer

CHICAGO

LEMONT LEGENDS CRUISE NIGHT

Engines that rumble and purr are the sounds of summer for the annual Downtown Lemont Cruise Night Car Shows The cruise nights run from 6 to 9 p m every Wednesday from June through end of August in downtown Lemont As the cars begin to roll into the downtown each Wednesday, visitors are transported to the past to see cars they know and love from bygone eras Spectators can’t help but peer into the Ford F100 truck, a Dodge Charger, Pontiac GTO and maybe catch a glimpse of a Lamborghini

The event is a favorite for residents and visitors as they enjoy a stroll through the downtown to view the weekly display of vehicles On average, the event draws thousands of visitors a week to the downtown, explained Julie Thomas, event specialist for the Village of Lemont

Partners help make the Cruise Night a family-friendly event, with activities and family-friendly concerts hosted by the Lemont Public Library, the Lemont Park District and representatives from CITGO Refinery in Lemont, which hosted a STEM event where there are demos, hands-on activities and takeaways

“Lemont Cruise Nights are a family event; we plan to keep the momentum going for 2025, with more kids’ activities planned for next year,” Thomas said

At the heart of the show is the event sponsors, who keep the event rolling along each year In addition to financial support, sponsors help judge the weekly car show voting and celebrating the “Star of the Show” award based on the week’s theme Past

themes have celebrated Street Rods, tractors, antiques and there was even an emergency vehicle showcase

There’s an Expo Night once a month at the car show, where sponsors have an opportunity to bring and set up a tent to share giveaways with visitors and promote their business

“We’re truly grateful for our sponsors – their contributions make the show possible year after year,” Thomas said

The weekly cruise night has become a showcase for local businesses in downtown Lemont Make plans to visit a downtown restaurant or local bar during the event There are food trucks serving up delicious bites at the Cruise Nights, expanding the dining options and making it easy for everyone in the family to find a delicious dining selection

Admission to the weekly cruise night is free for spectators and show cars Spaces for showing a vehicle are available on a firstcome, first-served.

The weekly event wouldn’t be possible without its sponsors, partners and the amazing show cars as well as its team of volunteers to help and assist with traffic control. The Village of Lemont, Lemont Police Department and Lemont Public Works help make the weekly event a part of summer memories for residents and visitors

To stay connected with the weekly shows, themes and get weather updates, follow the Lemont Downtown Cruise Night social media page on Facebook: www facebook com/ lemontdowntowncruisenights
