Shawnee County Parks + Recreation programs are developed with several goals in mind: • SCP+R strives to promote a healthy active lifestyle through program activities and choices. • Participants develop new skills and abilities. • Staff and instructors provide an emotionally supportive, positive environment. • Programs offer an opportunity to engage in socialization for all ages. • Large motor, fine motor, and cognitive development are promoted through new experiences and peer interaction.

PRESCHOOL

Toddler Open Gym/Space

Preschoolers will get a chance to develop large and fine motor skills while socializing with peers. Adults bringing participants can help provide a supportive environment for exploration of new activities. Equipment provided. Age: 3-5 yrs. Date: Ongoing Fee: Free

Rhyme Time

Great Overland Station

Experience Nursery Rhyme in the breathtaking Great Overland Station. Participants can learn why this nursery rhyme was invented and experience hands-on fun with a craft project. Fee includes entrance to train museum. Date: Aug. 25 Time: Thur. 5:30-6:30 p.m. Fee: $5

SPORTY SPROUTS SERIES

Recreational sports clinics provide a great way to introduce kids to a variety of activities that encourage an active healthy lifestyle. Clinic instructors will provide a safe, positive environment for kids to work on new skills. Good sportsmanship and team building are emphasized. Age: 3-5 yrs. Fee: $15 per session

Basketball

Sporty Sprouts Basketball teaches fundamentals such as dribbling, shooting and passing. This class is a place for kids to enjoy socializing and meeting new friends while learning basketball skills. An adult is required to participate with the child during instruction time.

Flag Football

Sporty Sprouts Football teaches fundamentals such as passing, kicking and running. This class is a place for kids to enjoy socializing and meeting new friends while learning football skills. An adult is required to participate with the child during instruction time.

Floor Hockey

Preschoolers will be introduced to the sport of floor hockey. No skating ability is required for this exciting chance to try a new sport. Skill development includes stick and puck handling, passing and shooting. Work on agility and large motor control will be emphasized.

Yard Games

Preschoolers will be able to socialize and play some of the most popular yard games. They will learn basic concepts and techniques for each game. This class is a 3-week session with a different yard game each week.
