EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING Shawnigan Lake School sits amidst the rugged, wild, and varied landscapes of Canada’s west coast. Our 270-acre campus on Vancouver Island is home to unique facilities and programs like the observatory and the EDGE (Engagement, Development, Gratitude, and Experience) program – a multiyear, journey-based program that builds service, cultural awareness, and skills-based learning into all off-campus trips and tours. THIS YEAR, THEIR LEARNING WILL TAKE THEM TO: This year, Shawnigan students' experiential learning will be mainly focused on local opportunities available on beautiful Vancouver Island, from backwoods hiking in the Cowichan Valley to sea kayaking around the Gulf Islands. These local trips and short expeditions will not only offer immersive experiences rich in local cultural, geographic and ecological learning opportunities, but will help students foster deep connections with their peers, a sense of independence and adventure, and an appreciation of Shawnigan's unparalleled island setting.
“We strive not only to teach you the names of the stars but how to navigate by them.” – Headmaster Lamont

HELP TO MAKE IT HAPPEN FINANCIAL AID Shawnigan Lake School strives to provide an environment rich in diversity, one of our core values, as we educate young people for an increasingly global world. Financial aid is an important tool in developing and maintaining a deliberately diverse student population.
Today, more than 40% of Shawnigan families receive some form of financial aid. Founder’s Bursaries and a broad array of scholarships are given according to demonstrated financial need, to broaden access and diversity, and to support those families currently enrolled who are experiencing temporary hardship. Families who receive financial aid also commit to share in the financial responsibility for their education by pledging to pay it forward for another Shawnigan student in the future.

Our school community grows closer when we sit, share, and eat together as a family. Conversation is at the heart of the Shawnigan experience.
