WYNDHAM
ROUTINE After an entire semester’s worth of work, the final outcome in producing a design proposal for a gateway for the City of Wyndham was relatively succesful. The final design was able to meet the objectives and requirements of being an iconic structure as well as serve as a marker or landmark which can be associated to the City of Wyndham through the concept of a section. However, whether or not it succeeded in contributing to the discourse cannot be measured as this is simply a hypothetical piece of paper architecture. The outcomes of such a design can only be speculated. However, in terms of fabrication and construction of the physical model, the outcome was a great success considering the complexity involved in the fabrication process.

CURVES
Reference base curves from Rhino, Maplipulating,distorting curves and shifting along vector direction to produce geometrical variations.
MOVE/ SCALE Lofting between the cruves to generate a curve and dynamic base geometry.

134 Spencer st, melbourne, vic When approaching this project, I first analysed how Sherlock Holmes was able to create connections between clues that are usually non-existent in the eyes of other characters and us as a reader. I wanted to explore this concept and create a theatre that on both a large scale and a small scale have connection with its own interior, site and the border melbourne as a city. The overall form of my theatre is guided by the idea of creating a building to draw in more attention to the West side of Melbourne CBD, thus to act as a node of connection between the City and Docklands. On a smaller scale the circulation was done with the same idea in mind.

Along this journey, view and the program of the building are carefully articulated to different angle path and lighting to allow visitors to have a unique experience of both the building itself and its surrounding context: Formal Mail exchange, the Old Gothic tramway building, Southern Cross Station and Docklands. By doing so , allowing people to take time to appreciate the Architecture surrounding the theater, also at the same time spend time walking through the theater.The building is no longer just a theater, where people just come and go to watch a production or movie. Rather a performance space, an art gallery, a gathering space - a culture hub of the west end of the Melbourne city. Finally, a 3D abstraction of Holmes’ conspiracy web - his method Holmes to carries out his investigation which was used as the design of the eye catching external facade for the upper level, to create a strong impression to visitor, at the same time create a new landmark for the Western end of Melbourne city.

This concept was then further developed through the theatre’s form, facade, circulation and its connection to the surrounding environment Upper stories of the building were set back from Bourke Street to maintain the currently historical facade streetscape. A London Terrace house outline with Australian timber cladding, enable extra connection between London (where most of the Sherlock story took place) and Melbourne to be made. A continuous spiral movement encompasses eight floors of the building from the underground theatre all the way to the roof-top bar to mark the end of the journey, a representation of Holmes being a node of connection.

digital fabrication
Body Lantern is a digital fabrication design project that aim to construct a physical paper model from digital media that could be worn on the body. Over the design process, the Doppler Effect was chosen as the natural process to focus on and later developed both conceptually and visually. The design was driven heavily with the help of digital media - Rhinoceros in the process of developing the model. This allowed us to have infinite experiments on panellings tools and other visual interpretation of the design. The final digitised was sent to digital cutter where it was then constructed to produce the physical paper Lantern model.
