From the Desk of the Executive Director “I am convinced that nothing we do is more important than hiring and developing people. At the end of the day you bet on people, not on strategies.” – Lawrence Bossidy The Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce remains focused on Workforce Development. We know our members continue to struggle Deidre Martinez with attracting and retaining talent and with unemployment numbers extremely low in Sheboygan County it makes our pool of opportunity very small. In May, I had an opportunity to join some of my colleagues from throughout the Great Lakes in Washington DC, to advocate for workforce development and talk with several congressional representatives and members of Congress, about the struggles our employers are faced with every day and the significant need to attract more people to our County for employment purposes.

In partnership with several Northeast Wisconsin organizations, we have also embarked on a manufacturing wage and benefit study, to give our manufacturing partners valuable information in real time to help them remain competitive in this market. If you are in manufacturing and you have not received an invite to participate, please reach out to me directly at deidre@sheboygan.org. We just finished celebrating Young Professional month throughout May, and June is an opportunity for us to showcase our wonderful communities, while we host many interns and co-op’s during the summer months. We have some wonderful experiences planned and now all we need are the interns. Do you have interns during the months of June and July? Would you like to give them an opportunity to be immersed in all that Sheboygan County has to offer while building strong relationships? If you have never participated in the past, I encourage you to visit our website and learn more about the program. This is the best way for us to connect on a human level with interns and co-ops with the ultimate goal of retaining them for full time employment opportunities upon completion of their degrees. We have partnered with several Sheboygan County businesses and organizations to provide them with memorable experiences and help them fall in love with Sheboygan County! We hope you will join us in welcoming this group. Are your Young Professionals connected to the community? We continue to develop and implement opportunities to retain talent in Sheboygan County and we need your help. Our best way to connect with your YP’s and ensure they are connected and engaged is for you to share the information with them. Our website has a lot of information available, but we also send out updates via email and text when appropriate. Help us get to know your YP’s by connecting them to the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce and sharing our Young Professional text club information. Text SHEBCOYP to 57838 and never miss another YP update again! Lastly, we are finalizing details for our Chamber Travel, September 5th to 15th as we explore the 6 countries along the Danube River. To learn more about this opportunity please visit our website or contact Deidre directly at deidre@sheboygan.org.

It’s quick, easy and it’s a great way to let everyone in Sheboygan County know who you are, what your business does or if you’ve got an event coming up! Some other things to think about as we move into June: • Deep Dive opportunities are a great way to meet new Chamber members and their respective businesses and gain referrals in the process. Every member is from a different business sector, so no two members are alike in any one group! Who do you want to do business with? People you know and trust of course. Join a Deep Dive today! Check out a short video at sheboygan.org to learn more about Deep Dives. • Roundtables are a terrific way to meet others within your business sector. Whether it’s Human Resources, Sales & Marketing, Not for Profit, and others, you’re sure to learn something from your peers. These peer-to-peer networking groups can help any one of your employees, or yourself, accelerate your learning curve, and minimize potential setbacks within your organization. Our own John Rogers does an outstanding job keeping each group on task, and always shares his own wealth of knowledge. Contact john@sheboygan.org and join a Roundtable today! • Our Young Professionals network goal is to attract, engage and retain young, diverse talent to Sheboygan County by providing opportunities for young professionals to design their social culture, serve as civic innovators and community stewards, and develop into the next generation of leaders for Sheboygan County. If you are interested in joining the YP network, please contact Molly Talaska at molly@sheboygan.org. • Check out the chamber calendar at sheboygan.org and make sure you mark 2022 for all events coming up this year, it is sure to continue to be an exciting and rewarding year! Have a terrific month, and #KeepItRealSheboyganCounty!

Molly, Coastal YPN Liaison Happy June! We had a very exciting month of May here in coastal nation! We celebrated our first YP Month and it was a great success. We held two events each week and welcomed many new members to our network. We even managed to score a couple new committee members to help foster new ideas and bring something fresh to our perspective on how to gain attraction to our network. See pictures below to see the fun things we were able to get into! As we start June, we are excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Better Molly Talaska Together Intern and Co-op program again this year. For those who do not know, our Better Together Intern and Co-op program welcomes over 150+ interns and co-ops from our partnering companies to explore the great county that is Sheboygan. We introduce them to the fun things in town, explore different ways to give back to our community and show them the many reasons why Sheboygan is a great place to work, live and play. We have a lot of activities planned for them this summer which even our network has yet to participate in. Keep watch on our Facebook and Website for the wide variety of activities we have planned for an amazing summer in Sheboygan!
