Member Orientation

“Life is a progress, not a station.” Ralph Waldo Emerson The month of July was full of excitement and lots of change for the Chamber. We said goodbye to some of our team members and wish them well as they embark on their next journeys. With goodbyes, come hello’s as well! We are pleased to share Deidre Martinez that our summer intern, Kierra, has accepted a full-time opportunity at the Chamber and will be staying with us as our Special Events Coordinator. We are also excited to announce that Christy Jacobs will be joining the Chamber as our Director of Events. Many of you will know Christy, as she has been an advocate of the Chamber in several capacities, especially as one of our esteemed Ambassadors. Our Intern and Co-op annual summer program has concluded for the year. We had a wonderful group join us this year and we hope they had as much fun as we did throughout Sheboygan County. Our goal is to immerse our visitors in all that Sheboygan County has to offer so that they may choose to move here permanently upon completion of their programs. If your organization hosts intern and co-op’s, please do

Are your Young Professionals connected to the community? We continue to develop and implement opportunities to retain talent in Sheboygan County and we need your help. Our website has a lot of information available, but we also send out updates via email and text when appropriate. Help us get to know your YP’s by connecting them to the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce and sharing our Young Professional text club information. Text SHEBCOYP to 57838 and never miss another YP update again! Although August slows down for us here at the Chamber, it gives us an opportunity to prepare for the Fall Season. August 31st we host the sold out annual golf outing and roll into a number of exciting events and experiences in September. Keep an eye out for save the dates for Workforce Development Symposium in September, Oktoberfeast in October and the Athena Leadership Awards luncheon in November. Nominations for Athena will be open the first week of September, so prepare now to nominate someone you know who is honoring and empowering women leaders in Sheboygan County. We want you to Think BIG (betterment, improvement, growth), Influence Local! The Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce is committed to providing expertise for fostering dynamic organizations throughout Sheboygan County. We are truly Better Together!

john rogers - business roundtable facilitator Business Owner Success Strategy Roundtable Mimicry is a way to learn from others, particularly when there is success. From nature, monarch butterflies apparently do not taste good, and the viceroy butterfly mimics the monarch to avoid becoming a bird’s dinner. Sometimes you read about success to mimic in a book or watch a Ted Talk. Another way is to attend a Chamber peer group roundtable and either learn how to overcome your current challenge or learn why another business owner is successful. The Business Owner Success Strategy roundtable occurs so you can learn from other business John Rogers owners to get ideas that may help you be more profitable, or deal with an employee challenge or develop a more robust sales and marketing strategy. For example, who do you turn to when there is no one else in your shoes? Maybe you have a partner as co-owner, but if you are flying solo, who do you ask when you want to fire a key employee? That is one example reason why the Chamber has a peer-to-peer roundtable designed specifically for you, the Business Owner. Occasionally, we bring in someone as a guest speaker. For example, on Wednesday, August 10 the B.O.S.S. roundtable will feature Grant Pauly of 3 Sheeps. Did you see the article about Grant and 3 Sheeps in a recent Insight magazine? It was the cover story! Have you been to 3 Sheeps for refreshment? No samples during the roundtable, but there will be useful take-aways! If you need to know more about any of the Chamber’s 8 different peer-group roundtables, send an email to john@sheboygan.org.

These peer-to-peer networking groups can help any one of your employees, or yourself, accelerate your learning curve, and minimize potential setbacks within your organization. christy jacobs - director of events Hello there! I am so excited to be introduced as the new Director of Events for the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce. I have been a resident of Sheboygan since 2006 and have fallen in love with the city, surrounding area, and of course the people during my 16 years of living here. During the last 5 years I have met so many wonderful people through Chamber events and committees that I simply could not pass up this opportunity to join the staff here at the Sheboygan Chamber. For those of you that do not know me, I have a love for event planning and throwing a great party. I look forward to putting that passion and love of planning into future Chamber events. Christy Jacobs

Kierra brooks - special events coordinator Hello All! I am excited to announce that after interning here this summer, I am officially a full-time employee at the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce!!! My role here is Special Events Coordinator. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a mother of two. I recently graduated from Lakeland University this past May with a bachelor’s degree in business administration/ management! It was an amazing journey, and I will soon be going back for my Masters! While at Lakeland I interned at Partners for Community Development where I worked as a Community Outreach Liaison. We turned an old office space at Sunnyside Townhomes into a community room for low-income families. This included partnering with various nonprofit organizations to provide this community with resources at their fingertips, instead of having to go out and find them.

Kierra Brooks

I enjoy working with non-profits within the community and helping make this a proud, inclusive, and loving place to live for all families. I look forward to all that is to come for me here at the Chamber.
