...............................................................................................................................................................................................

“I had my house exactly the way I wanted it…” When I was 23 years old, I was living in a great house, close to my mom, had met a fantastic woman who had me spellbound. My best friend shared the house with me and I had a job I loved. No matter where I was at any time of day or night, I was happy. I had my life exactly the way I wanted it. Not long after that, my mom moved away, my best friend started seeing my crazy exgirlfriend, and the woman who had me spellbound turned out to be a my worst nightmare. Clearly, circumstances changed and my life was not the same anymore. At around 35, I was planning my wedding with my soon-to-be wife and our best friend. We had this great little rented house; I was totally in love and had a job that gave me a real sense of purpose and accomplishment. I was happy. I had my life exactly the way I wanted it. Several years later, the best friend was no longer in our lives, and my marriage was falling apart at the seams. Within a year of that I was living in the guest room and my marriage was over. Clearly, people changed and my life was not the same anymore. Last night, someone very dear to me was upset because a couple of people suggested that it was time to replace her living room furniture, which had become worn from many years of use and abuse. Through her tears she said to me, “I had my house exactly the way I wanted it…” At that moment I wanted to say, “Yes, but that was 16 years and 4 dogs ago.” But in a way, I knew it was about more than just the furniture. At 23, I had my house exactly the way I wanted it. At 35, I had my house exactly the way I wanted it. And I’m sure there were many times in between and after, that I looked at my life and it was exactly the way I wanted it. But that was then and this is now. There’s an old proverb that says something about not getting so caught up in the past that you squander your future. At 35, I knew that when I realized that if I was so saddened by the loss in my past at 23, I wouldn’t be able to truly appreciate the woman I was going to marry. And years later, I knew it again when I realized that if I was so stuck on the end of my marriage that I would not be able to fully appreciate the amazing woman I have in my life now. We can all look back on our lives and remember the good times, when we had our houses exactly the way we wanted them. And most of the time we don’t have the ability to sustain every detail and keep things exactly the same. It’s impossible to wrap our lives in plastic, like our great grandmothers used to do with their sofas, to save them from the natural uses and abuses of time and circumstance. But it is possible to hold those moments of perfection near and dear in our memories, realizing that they are what brought us to where we are now and where we have the ability to go in the future. So this month, be thankful for the life you have lived and every moment along the way when you had your house exactly the way you wanted it. Then take a good look at the life you have now and ahead of you and be thankful that you can redecorate any time you want. See you next month!

Five decades after its historic debut, the iconic film West Side Story, starring Natalie Wood, returns in brilliant Blu-ray form November 15. With a record-breaking ten Oscars, the film took home more awards than any other movie-musical in the history of cinema. This monumental production not only featured timeless lyrics, but a brilliant score and beautiful direction. West Side Story: 50th Anniversary Edition boasts hundreds of hours of restoration, 7.1 digital audio, and a collection of bonus features spotlighting the songs and dances of the original film.

The DVD/CD set Get Along is a collection of three films and a live album that offers an intimate look into the lives of Tegan and Sara Quin. The first film, States, is a documentary that uses American touring footage and interviews with Tegan and Sara. The second film, India, is a documentary shot during Tegan and Sara’s first tour of India. The third film, For The Most Part, is a stripped-down studio concert, shot before a live audience of 75 fans, friends and family over two days at The Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, BC. Releases November 15.

Okay, Gleeks, the time has come for answers! On November 15, Glee will finally reveal why Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) hates musical theater. As the kids prepare to stage West Side Story, a flashback shows 16-year-old Sue on stage belting out the title song from Oklahoma!, a performance savaged by one brutal critic. “Her little heart was broken,” sighs Jane. “Like a lot of angry people out there, Sue’s a wannabe.” Glee cast 19-year-old Colby Minifie for the part of young Sue. “I think they did a terrific job casting,” raves Jane. “She has a great voice and energy.”

Opening in limited release on November 11 is the sci-fi flick, Melancholia. In the film, Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide into the Earth. We follow two sisters till the bitter end. Justine, played by Kirsten Dunst. has a hard time finding her place in the world and assuming all its empty rituals, but feels more at home when the world draws near its end. And then her sensible big sister Claire, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, who thrives in the world and consequently finds it hard to say goodbye.

Kylie Minogue’s massively acclaimed Aphrodite - Les Folies, filmed live at London’s O2 Arena last April, releases on CD, DVD, Bluray and audio digital download on November 29th. The tour was Kylie’s most ambitious and spectacular to date and the DVD footage, filmed over 2 nights, captures the show at its absolute peak. With costumes created exclusively for Kylie by Dolce & Gabbana, the stage show followed an enchanting Greek mythology theme, and featured an astonishing water finale. This was a show that truly redefined what a pop concert could be.Now U.S. fans can re-live the experience.

The CBS series, Unforgettable, follows former police detective, Carrie Wells, played by Poppy Montgomery, who has hyperthymesia, a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to remember everything. However, there is one thing that she can’t remember. That is the details that could solve her sister’s murder that happened a long time ago. She is reunited with her ex-boyfriend and partner when she is a consultant in homicide case, starts to feel at home, and decides to join with his unit as a detective. Meanwhile, on her off time, she researches the clues from her sister’s murder. Airs Tuesdays at 10pm.

IN THE NEWS EQUALITY FLORIDA TO RECOGNIZE BROWARD COUNTY HEROES Teri Williams and Michael Rajner will each receive the Voice for Equality Award for their tireless work on behalf of Florida’s LGBT community during Equality Florida’s 2011 Broward Gala at the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art. Teri Williams is the point person on LGBT issues within Broward County School District, the sixth largest in the nation. Teri co-founded the Safe to be Me Coalition—a collaboration of non-profits and the school district working together to support LGBT youth and their allies coming together to create safe spaces in the school environment. Teri was also largely responsible for helping to make Equality Florida’s GSA Leadership Institute an officially recognized school event, leading to a more than 100 percent increase in participation among Broward Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs). “Teri has transformed Broward County schools and she is helping make the district a model across the state for confronting the epidemic of bullying,” said Stratton Pollitzer, deputy executive director for Equality Florida. Michael Emanuel Rajner, a Fort Lauderdale activist transplanted from Brooklyn, NY, is a fearless and passionate advocate for LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities. Michael serves as legislative director of the Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus. He previously served on Broward County School Board’s Diversity Committee and played a central role in securing LGBT protections including adding gender identity to the district’s non-discrimination policy. Michael is a representative on the Florida Department of Health’s Florida AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Formulary Advisory Workgroup. Michael also serves on the Broward Sheriff's Council for Diversity and Equal Opportunity" and efforts to advocate for individuals in relation to HIV-criminalization. “Whether it’s passing a note, through a flight attendant, to outspoken anti-equality Congressman Allen West asking him for a meeting to discuss legislation aimed to reduce bullying of LGBT youth., or reaching out to the mother of a hate crime victim, Michael doesn’t stop until the mission is accomplished,” said Nadine Smith, executive director for Equality Florida. The 2011 Equality Florida Broward Gala promises to be a spectacular event and takes place at the Museum of Art / Ft. Lauderdale, 1 East Las Olas Boulevard, Ft. Lauderdale at 5PM. Tickets for this elegant cocktail reception are $125. For more information, visit eqfl.org or call Stratton Pollitzer at 954.682.6094. Other upcoming Galas are Tampa on February 25, 2012 at 7PM and Key West on March 24, 2012 at The Gardens Hotel, 5:30PM.

LESBIAN ACTIVIST AWARDED PRESIDENTIAL CITIZENS MEDAL A LESBIAN ACTIVIST WHO HELPED SECURE HOSPITAL VISITATION RIGHTS FOR GAY COUPLES ACROSS THE COUNTRY ON THURSDAY RECEIVED THE NATION’S SECOND-HIGHEST CIVILIAN HONOR.

Janice Langbehn and President Obama during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House, October 20th. (AP) Janice Langbehn, who was unable to visit her partner in 2007 before she died in a Florida hospital, was among 13 recipients of the 2011 Presidential Citizens Medal. During a ceremony in the East Room of the White House, President Obama conferred the medals to each of the recipients. During his remarks, Obama paid special heed to award recipients who took action after their families endured hardship. For Langbehn, the trial was being separated from her partner of 18 years, Lisa Pond, as she lay dying in the hospital after suffering from a brain aneurysm. “As a father and husband, I can’t begin to imagine the grief that they must have felt in that moment — their anger and their sense that the world was not fair,” Obama said. “But they refused to let that anger define them. They each became, in Janice’s words, an ‘accidental activist.’ And thanks to their work, there are parents and partners who will never have to go through what they went through.” Obama conferred the award to Langbehn, a lesbian who hails from Lacey, Wash., after a military aide standing the near the stage read a description of her accomplishments. “Janice Langbehn transformed her own profound loss into a resounding call for compassion and equality,” the aide said. “Determined to spare others from similar injustice, Janice spoke out and helped ensure that same-sex couples can support and comfort each other through some of life’s toughest trials. The United States honors Janice Langbehn for advancing America’s promise of equality for all.” “THEY EACH BECAME, IN JANICE’S WORDS, AN ‘ACCIDENTAL ACTIVIST.’ AND THANKS TO THEIR WORK, THERE ARE PARENTS AND PARTNERS WHO WILL NEVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH.” —President Obama

(AP)—The number of gays and lesbians adopting children has nearly tripled in the last decade despite discriminatory rules in many states, according to an analysis of recent population trends. About 21,740 same-sex couples had adopted children in 2009, up from 6,477 in 2000, according to the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law. About 32,571 adopted children were living with same-sex couples in 2009, up from 8,310 in 2000. The figures are an analysis of newly released Cen-

ion challenged the law, among the strictest in the country, on behalf of Martin Gill and his male partner, who adopted two young brothers from foster care. Earlier this year, the Arkansas Supreme Court rejected a voter-approved initiative that barred gay couples and other unmarried people living together from serving as adoptive or foster parents. Virginia allows married couples and single

sus Bureau estimates. The New York-based Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute recently released a report culminating a four-year project surveying 158 gay and lesbian parents and their experience with the adoption process. Their researchers found the highest number of homosexuals adopted children from Massachusetts, California, New York and Texas. Several states specifically prohibit same-sex couples from adopting jointly, while others have a patchwork of discriminatory policies that make it difficult for gays and lesbians to adopt either as individuals or as couples. But some states have eased restrictions on gay families. Florida stopped enforcing its ban on gay adoptions last year after a decision by a state appeals court that the 3-decade-old law is unconstitutional. The American Civil Liberties Un-

people to adopt or become foster parents, regardless of sexual orientation, but bars unmarried couples—gay or straight—from doing so. According to the Adoption Institute, at least 60% of U.S. adoption agencies surveyed accept applications from non-heterosexual parents. Nearly 40% of agencies have knowingly placed children with gay families. About half the agencies surveyed reported a desire for staff training to work with such clients. At California’s Independent Adoption Center, executive director Ann Wrixon has seen an increase in gay couples adopting. In the last five years, gay families have consistently made up about a third of the 200 adoptions a year. While the number of gay couples adopting is increasing, the overall number of same-sex couples raising kids is actually declining, said Gary Gates, demographer at the Williams Institute.

THE COUNTRY’S FIRST LGBT SENIOR CENTER TO OPEN IN JANUARY 2012 IN NYC New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA) recently announced that Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) was awarded an Innovative Senior Center (ISC) contract to open the nation’s first full-time center for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. SAGE the country’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. The SAGE Center will include program sites in all

five New York City boroughs. BY TINA SORDELLINI

You’re single and sick and tired of being that way. You’ve reached the point where you have given up on meeting someone in a club and realize there is no one in your group of friends that you want to have a relationship with. Like most of us, you can’t just call the millionaire matchmaker to find your perfect girl. So what now? Well, there are plenty of opportunities for dating on the internet. Contrary to what you might think, Internet dating can be a very effective way to find someone who is right for you. In many ways, it’s even better than you’d expect. If you take your time and use an effective system, you might just find yourself walking down the aisle with your dream girl. In order to do that, you need to have a plan. First, pick a site that is easy for you to understand and that you feel comfortable with. There are several to choose form so don’t feel like you have to go with the one that’s name you’ve heard the most. A good example of an up and comer is Plenty Of Fish. Plenty of Fish uses a system that takes your personality and matches it with others who are compatible with who you say you are. Meaning, if you are truly honest when you set up your profile, answer personality questions and take some of the tests in subjects like Chemistry and Relationship Needs, you will have a better chance of meeting someone who really is ideal for you. POF offers you the opportunity to email,

upload and view photos, chat live and more, in your quest to find true love. Another place to check out is Match.com, which offers similar features to POF. There is also OneGoodLove.com, which is specific to the LGBT community, for relationship-minded people. While almost all dating sites will allow you to create a profile and look around for free, most of them will want you to pay a subscription fee to access all the available features. While you might think that you don’t want to have to pay a fee to meet someone online, if you think about how much money you threw away on that girl you met in the bar and couldn’t get rid of after three months of her saying she really was looking for a job, spending a few bucks to find someone who really is right for you is worth it. Once you have found the right site for you, the most important thing you can do is be honest. Think about what you are really looking for in your life and in your mate. Set up a profile that says exactly what you want and exactly what you don’t. If it’s important to you to be with someone who is out, you want to have children or you are not willing to date a Gemini, then say so. The beauty of internet dating is that you have the ability to weed out things that won’t work for you before you even share the first eye contact. Another important thing to remember is that while a picture may be worth a thousand words, when it comes to meeting someone on the SHE -

internet, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Not everyone takes great photos and not everyone uploads recent or accurate ones. So a photo can be very misleading in either direction. The next thing you want to do is create a default first response email. You will use this to reply to everyone who contacts you from your profile. In this email you want to talk about the things you enjoy. Talk about your hobbies, your perfect Saturday, favorite vacation spot and music, etc. Don’t talk about your occupation or give any personal information like your last name, phone number or direct email address. Talk about what you are looking for in a relationship. Then, end this email by asking them to tell you a little more about them. The reply you get should give you a real clue about whether or not you want to continue contact. Really read what they have to say and how they say it. If they are more interested in meeting you immediately than in getting to know you or you don’t see anything that you have in common, toss it aside. Ultimately, the best relationships are built on a solid foundation of friendship, and you wouldn’t really be friends with someone you have nothing in common with. In your next email, start by responding to what they have said about themselves. Think of it as if they had asked, “Do you like the beach?” or “Have you ever been to an Indian restaurant?” Remember, this is moving past the inter-

view stage into a conversation. From there, you can talk a little more about what you do, meaning your job, without going into any specifics. You can also talk about some of your career or personal goals before ending with a well-placed, “What about you?” If you connect with their next reply, then you can either email some more or move forward to setting up an online chat. Don’t give out your phone number or call them yet. Find something you have in common, and talk about that some more. Or if you both like dominos then find a site where you can play a game online together and chat at the same time. Remember, once someone has your phone number they have it, and changing your number is a big hassle. The same can be said for someone knowing where you live or where you work. So, be very cautious about how and when you reveal that information. While it’s important to be open, honest and trusting to find lasting love, don’t get caught up in the idea of it and reveal too much too soon. Good things come to those who wait. Along the way you will want to look out for any red flags. For example, if it takes you a few days to answer an email and you sign back on to find multiple emails from her that say, “Where are you? Why haven’t you answered me?” you might want to ask yourself if you think it’s too soon for someone to have expectations of you. Traits you see in the beginning will likely triple over time.

It’s also a good idea to come up with a list of questions you want to ask. Take some serious ones and some fun ones and mix them together, so it doesn’t feel like more of an interview. Put them in an email and say something like, “Let’s play a round of 20 questions!” Ask things like, “When was the first time you kissed a woman?” “Who was the first person you came out to?” “What is your relationship like with your parents?” and mix them in with things like “Do you prefer ballpoint or felt tip pens?” “French fries or French manicure?” “What’s your favorite song to sing along to the radio with?” End that one with, “Yes, you get to send me 20 questions, too!” Reading the answers to those questions might help you pick up on some red flags and can also help you discover if there is more that you have in common. If they are not willing to answer the questions, then toss them aside. Someone who is serious about finding a real relationship will be equally eager to learn about you and tell you about themselves. Once you feel you have learned enough that it’s safe to take another step, don’t rush into meeting face-to-face. Spend some time talking on the phone. This is an important step because you want to know that you can have good conversations with her. Great communication is paramount in any solid relationship. Remember, at this point, you are not in a relationship yet, so you have nothing to lose by really being yourself. Spending some quality time just talking on the phone is a great way to do that. If all goes well and you find you are ready for a face-to-face meeting, make sure you pick somewhere neutral and meet there. First dates are important, so if you are going to do something like see a movie, make sure the plan includes dinner or coffee either before or after the movie. Meaning that whatever you choose to do, make sure there is time for some face-to-face conversation. With any luck, you’ll be planning your second date by the end of the evening. Now, keep in mind that it is truly possible that upon meeting face-toface, there will just not be a mutual romantic attraction. That is okay. Sometimes, meeting someone new, with whom you have great conversation and many things in common, makes for a fantastic friend. And sometimes, fantastic friends wind up becoming even more over time. There is no reason why you can’t continue your search for love elsewhere and have a new friend you can talk to about it.

SPEND SOME TIME TALKING ON THE PHONE. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WANT TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN HAVE GOOD CONVERSATIONS WITH HER. GREAT COMMUNICATION IS PARAMOUNT IN ANY SOLID RELATIONSHIP.”

The most important thing to remember in this whole process is that you are ultimately looking for the woman you will want to spend the rest of your life with. Finding her and falling in love is not going to happen overnight, nor should it. She might not be the first, second or even third woman you meet for coffee. But if you take your time, stick to the plan and remember that patience pays, you will see that internet dating may just turn out to be the best decision you ever made.

WITH NADINE SMITH

Many years ago I had a teacher who assigned to our class the task of answering the question: “How had slavery benefited black people by bringing them to the New World?” He was a popular coach who was also known to use ugly racial slurs while chastising black athletes. If the school disciplined him, I never knew about it. I transferred out of his class as quickly as possible and felt ill every time I encountered him in the hallways. That teacher came to mind as news broke last July of a Mount Dora High School teacher in Florida who used Facebook to express his disgust that gay couples are now free to marry in New York. He called those marriages “a cesspool.” While some rushed to defend Jerry Buell’s anti-gay posts as private, protected speech under the First Amendment, others argued that Facebook had become an extension of his classroom, since Buell actively made students his “friends” on the popular social network. Would it be acceptable for a teacher to express disgust toward a particular race or religious background in a forum where his students were expressly invited? Buell cannot reasonably now assert that his hateful words have no impact in his classroom. On the contrary, one Mount Dora student responded to Buell’s Facebook posts saying, “This just made me more excited for your class next year, lol.” There is clear evidence that Buell

violated the teachers’ Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct. It is also clear that his classroom has long been a hostile environment for anyone who does not agree with his particular religious and political views. Reports of his classroom behavior from students themselves certainly warrant a deeper investigation by the district and the state. Even some early defenders are backing away from Buell as details emerge that suggest his anti-gay attitudes and religious bias were on display in a classroom — a place he called his religious “mission field.” Buell’s class syllabus warned students who didn’t like his brand of Christianity to choose another class. He went further, using the school’s website to declare, “I try to teach and lead my students as if Lake Co. Schools had hired Jesus Christ himself.” Lake County Schools Superintendent Susan Moxley has concluded that Buell “clearly crosses the line of separation of church and state that public school employees must follow. Future breaches and failure to maintain the separation of church and state may lead to more serious disciplinary issues.” Thousands have written to the Lake County

School District, angered by this abuse of power. Some expressed their unwillingness to spend money at Mount Dora shops and restaurants until this matter is resolved. Others recounted their personal experiences with bullying. Bert Royal, screenwriter for the film Easy A, which featured a character targeted by bullies, wrote: “I am a 33year-old gay man from Florida. I wrote the movie Easy A, which came out last year and lightly addressed how schools turn a blind eye toward gay bashing. Which is why I never made it to my senior year. (Or even my sophomore year.)” School districts have two primary responsibilities: to educate students and to keep them safe. What will the Lake County School Board and the Mount Dora High School administration do now to create a safe learning environment for students who are gay or those who do not share the same religious beliefs as their teachers? Nearly 60 percent of Florida’s students live in school districts that provide specific protections from anti-gay bullying and discrimination. Lake County students deserve these protections and have never needed them more than today.

With her full force Cho Dependent comedy tour and film, a Showtime special, on November 21st the DVD release of Cho Dependent, a Grammy nomination, a comfy weekly television show Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime, a quick stint on Dancing with the Stars—is there anything the amazing Margaret Cho can’t do?

I am so in love with her and her voice. I have been for a long time. I am very lucky to have such amazing, talented friends, and also incredibly thrilled that they wanted to work with me on my album.

YOU ARE HAVING AN AMAZING TIME LATELY!

Thanks! I love to cook but there is never time. I don’t have a kitchen where I am, so that ‘s too bad. I really enjoy it. I am just learning, but it’s something that I think is really important, as cooking is really connecting with food on another level, which I love. I can’t clean. That is my downfall.

I am super into the most recent reissue of the musical Godspell. It’s so funny that I learned a lot of the songs from that show on piano when I was young, so now I am learning them for guitar. It has some great songs for women. I also love Bob Mould’s new record, and I am playing a tribute show with him in November with Grant Lee Phillips as well as Ryan Adams and Dave Grohl, all artists that I love. I am inspired by all kinds of music, even Christian music. Often, I don’t agree with the actions of Christians nowadays, but Godspell was really hippie and loving and accepting of all people, certainly not the homophobic message a lot of churches give today.

YOU’VE WRITTEN ALL YOUR OWN SONGS AND PERFORM THEM IN THE FILM. WHEN

DANCING WITH THE STARS. HOW WOULD YOU SUM UP THAT EXPERIENCE? (BY THE WAY,

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO REALLY PURSUE MUSIC?

WE LOVED THE DRESS, AND YOUR OUTSPOKENNESS FOR LGBT RIGHTS!)

I grew up in a church choir family, and so I was always surrounded by singers. My parents are both musicians. I definitely get my voice from my mother. She is a fantastic singer. My parents both sing on my new album that I am working on now.

Thanks! I want to take that dress and auction it off for a charity that would benefit young LGBT organizations like Trevor or GLSEN but they won’t give it to me. I had a hard time doing that show and the whole experience was me thinking, ‘How can I throw this contest or get myself disqualified before I break my leg?’ I didn’t enjoy it, but I am glad I went through it, and I am glad I got to make the show as gay as I did. Obviously, they were majorly influenced because this season is the gayest season ever—of anything.

THE CHO DEPENDENT TOUR AND FILM, THE SHOWTIME SPECIAL, THE DVD RELEASE OF DROP DEAD DIVA, AND A GRAMMY NOMINATION, JUST TO NAME A FEW THINGS. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN’T DO? LIKE, MAYBE, COOK?

ANI DIFRANCO MAKES AN APPEARANCE IN YOUR VIDEO AND SONG “CAPTAIN CAMEL TOE.” HOW DID YOU END UP WORKING WITH ANI AND FIONA APPLE, TWO BIG NAMES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

I knew both Ani and Fiona before I started making the album. I toured with Ani years ago and I am a longtime fan of her music. Fiona is magic! She and I sing together at Largo in Los Angeles.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO? WHAT’S ON YOUR FAVORITE PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW?

YOU’VE ALWAYS INCORPORATED YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR COMEDY. HOW DO THEY REALLY FEEL ABOUT BEING EXPOSED? SHE -

They love it! NOW THAT YOU’VE DONE YOUR OWN REALITY TV, WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON ALL THE REALITY SHOWS OUT THERE?

I think reality shows are great. I love My Life on the D List and I think that it’s a fantastic opportunity to make wonderful art. YOU’VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY OPEN ABOUT YOUR SEXUALITY. HOW DO YOU FEEL THAT’S IMPACTED YOUR CAREER?

I don’t know, just as I don’t know how my race or gender has affected my work. I think if I didn’t talk about my queer life and truth it would be boring. EVERYTHING YOU DO, EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE IS ALWAYS SPLASHED IN HEADLINES AND ALL OVER THE INTERNET. HOW IS IT THAT YOU GETTING MARRIED SO HAD LITTLE BUZZ?

It made me really understand what it means to be a family, and it really made me committed to the cause of marriage equality. I love my family, and I am so grateful for it. Everyone should have this. YOU ARE TOURING IN LONDON NOW. WHAT’S THE RESPONSE BEEN LIKE OVER THERE? DO YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO ALTER ANY OF YOUR COMEDY TO SUIT DIFFERENT AUDIENCES? GAY OR STRAIGHT, US OR UK?

I love the UK! I don’t alter my sets for gay or straight audiences, but I do find that UK audiences are more conservative in some things and more liberal in other things than US audiences. In the UK it’s very taboo to talk about sex and so they get way more squeamish, but then they also appreciate my work because there is always a point to what initially seems gratuitous. In the US, I get away with more in terms of cynicism and darker themes. But other than steer-

ing around slight cultural differences, I feel my performances remain fairly intact while traveling. STARTED OFF IN SAN FRAN AREA, LOTS OF TIME IN NEW YORK, BUT LATELY... I HEARD YOU’RE LOVING ATLANTA?

Yes, I lived there when I filmed Drop Dead Diva, my TV show for Lifetime/Sony. It’s a great job and an amazing city to live in. Atlanta is so queer and hip and happening. I go out every night and I am always really moved by the art, comedy, music, food— it’s where it’s at—the “a”! THE LEGION OF FANS YOU HAVE IS SO LOYAL, AND SO DIVERSE AND SO...ECLECTIC. WHAT’S BEEN YOUR WEIRDEST EXPERIENCE? (THUS FAR..!)

Nothing weird happens in that part of my life. The weirdness occurs in my relationships, my daily ins and outs. I find people I love who are murderers. I have much tragedy in my past and my upbringing that I bring to my work, but my work life in my art—that is a safe zone for me so far. YOUR COMEDY COVERS EVERY EDGY TOPIC THERE IS. SO, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU FEEL IS OFF LIMITS?

Not really. Only what is boring! Boredom is so off limits! WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

All art but currently—painters, art, sculptors, craftspeople, ceramics, fiber arts and sewing, tattoos, tattooers! Really heavily tattooed people like turn of the century tattooed women who worked at circus sideshows! YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING FROM STAND UP TO TV, TO DANCING, TOURS, FILMS, AND MUSIC. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’RE THINKING OF TACKLING THAT YOU HAVEN’T TRIED YET? POLITICS?MYSTERY WRITER? BROADWAY?

I wouldn’t be a politician, not now anyway, and mystery writer, who knows? That is interesting. Broadway, yes! I want to make more music, I would like to sew a really big quilt. I am taking some time to make music videos this December with Katastrophe and Garrison Starr, two amazing queer artists. I need to learn my new camera and get better at editing. So there is a lot to do. I’m also making a new album with The Posies, Bitch, and Ben Lee—incredible people. IF PRODUCERS, DIRECTORS, AND EXECUTIVES WERE IN TOTAL “YES, GREEN LIGHT IT!” MODE (WITH NO BUDGET RESTRICTIONS!), WHAT WOULD YOUR IDEAL PROJECT BE, AND WITH WHOM?

Kim Jong II’s story or Wendi Deng! How about Imelda Marcos! I could play all three in a weird triptych about power. YOU’VE BEEN IN THE INDUSTRY A WHILE NOW. WITH SUCH UPS AND DOWNS, WHAT’S BEEN THE BEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY?

That everything changes every minute and there are surprises every day. Also, it’s always good even though it may not seem like it at the time. [ MARGARETCHO.COM ]

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING YOUR FIRST PUPPY! As the Holidays get closer and closer, a new puppy makes the perfect gift for you or that special someone. It is important for you to realize adding a new member to your family is a long-term choice, 1215 years approximately. Choosing the right pet is the first step to making sure you will be a responsible and dependable owner. There are a few questions you need to ask yourself and factor you need to consider. Here are some tips to consider: 1- Size does matter. Do you want a big or small dog? Consider the space you have available. It is obvious that a boxer will require more space than a Chihuahua would. It is as simple as an apartment vs. house. 2- How much shedding are you willing to handle? All dogs shed, but some breeds are shedding machines. Also ask yourself if you have the time for grooming at home in between visits to the pet salon. Do you have allergies? There are hypoallergenic dog breeds such as Poodles or Bichon Frise. 3- Energy level. How much time would you have for your pet? Larger breeds will require longer walks than small dogs. Some dogs don’t require much exercise at all - they’d rather curl up with you on the couch. 4- One of the most important factors is your dog’s health. Always

check online, or at the pet shop, what are the major concerns for the breed you like. Can you really afford that vet bill? 5- Behavior and social skills. Puppies are adorable but also timeconsuming. Regardless of home or school-training, you will have to put the skills to practice. Having control over your pet will pay off later on. Be patient. So, spend time doing some research for your best fit. Make sure you choose among those breeds that will suit your lifestyle. You will know which puppy is yours once you connect with those lovely eyes! Also important, when choosing his or her name, one or two syllables is usually best. It’s easier for your dog to understand. In addition, be sure to bring your new dog to a vet for a general examination right away. Congratulations on your new baby, they derserve and good and happy life! *MOST POPULAR 2011 SMALL DOG BREEDS: Yorkshire Terrier, Beagle, Dachshund, Toy Poodle, Shih Tzu, Miniature Schnauzer, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Pug & Boston Terrier *MOST POPULAR 2011 LARGE DOG BREEDS: German Shepherd, Airedale Terrier, Afghan Hound, Great Dane, Dalmatian, Boxer, Doberman Pinscher, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler & Rhodesian Ridgeback.

BRINGING THE

Just because you may not have heard the name Rainbow Noise yet, doesn’t mean they aren’t creating a sonic boom within the world of LGBT music. Rainbow Noise is an independent record label that specializes in presenting diverse artistic talent to commercial audiences without compromising individual style or gender presentation. Our emails have been flooded with notes and letters from fans, asking us to introduce you to Rainbow Music and its artists. Together, they are set to take hip hop and rap to a whole new level—one that exemplifies artists regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Hitting the web with songs like “Ima Homo,” and “Freak Deaky,” Rainbow Music has been harassed both on YouTube and through violence and theft in their Las Vegas studios. But they haven’t given up. Instead they continue to produce everything you want in great rap and hip hop—with a twist. I recently had the chance to get to know Rainbow Music’s Creator and artist, Cee Smith, as well as five more of the talented women that make up this label’s roster of power. And it’s a pleasure to share what I learned about them with you.

RAINBOW

NOISE

There were a lot of acts and people seemed really shocked that I was a girl. I was the only girl on stage, period.

< CEE SMITH BORN IN MARYLAND CURRENTLY RESIDING IN LAS VEGAS/ PORTLAND

WHEN DID YOU CREATE RAINBOW NOISE?

It was a concept I had been playing with for years as I developed other hip hop artists. In 2010 I decided to make the idea a reality, and Rainbow Noise was born. WHAT WAS YOUR MOTIVATION?

The countless talent that I came across in the LGBT community that was often denied an outlet based solely on their sexuality. WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN RAP MUSIC?

I’ve always enjoyed music , but my interest in producing artists didn’t come until I was in my 20’s. WHAT WAS IT ABOUT RAP THAT DREW YOU IN?

The beats, melodies and lyrics of many genres speak to me. I specialize in hip hop but I love to pull influences from all kinds of music. WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE?

[Laughs] Does choir count? If not then in 2003 I had my first hip hop performance. WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT THAT PERFORMANCE?

THINKING BACK TO THAT FIRST PERFORMANCE AND COMPARING IT TO NOW, WHAT HAS CHANGED MOST ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST?

< STUD

I’ve matured as an artist. A lot! I’ve grown more comfortable in front of others. I consider myself more of a business woman, but I’m constantly growing as an artist.

RAP MUSIC TENDS TO BE A STRAIGHT-MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY. WHAT CONCERNS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THAT?

None, really. I see it as a challenge and I work hard when faced with challenges. Women have been breaking barriers in hip hop since its inception. HOW DID YOUR PARENTS/FAMILY REACT TO YOU PURSUING A CAREER IN RAP?

They are very supportive and proud to be part of my dream. WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE TO BRING TO THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY?

Diversity and voice for people like me. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST CONCERN IN CREATING RAINBOW NOISE?

Financially being able to compete with industry standards. WHAT CAN READERS TO DO SUPPORT RAINBOW NOISE?

Just support. Continue to watch our videos, download the music and spread the word!

WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN RAP MUSIC?

From a young age, I was blown away by hip hop culture, and in 7th grade I discovered my own talents. WHAT WAS IT ABOUT RAP THAT DREW YOU IN?

The lyrics, the wordplay, the rhyme schemes, delivery and the style of music. The fact that I could relate to the music. The beats, the DJs and freestyle battles. I loved it! WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE?

The energy of the room when I started to speak, it shifted, because some people were confused about me being a girl. [Laughs] WHAT HAS CHANGED MOST ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST?

I am way more confident. I love giving my all in a performance. I want my first impression on the crowd to be something to be remembered. RAP MUSIC TENDS TO BE A STRAIGHT-MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY. WHAT CONCERNS

DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THAT?

They might not accept the fact that dominant women want in, and they might not let us in because of what type of women we are. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MOST LACKING IN RAP MUSIC?

Originally and creativity. HOW DID YOUR FAMILY REACT TO YOU PURSUING A CAREER IN RAP?

My family are my biggest fans, they know all my songs and all my videos. [Laughs] It feels so good to have a support system like them. WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE TO BRING TO THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY?

Awareness to the gay community and of course I want to bring back the fun and rhyming of hip hop. Keep it fun, but actually have substance and remain true to myself.

I’m concerned our talent will be overlooked or we won’t be heard or have a voice because of our gender and sexuality.

My mom wanted me to go to school of course, but she’s been very supportive and so has the rest of my family. We have a lot of musicians in our family, so I’m sure they weren’t surprised when they found out I wanted to pursue rap. WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE TO BRING TO THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY?

THINKING BACK TO THAT FIRST PERFORMANCE, WHAT HAS CHANGED MOST ABOUT YOU

I hope to bring a voice people can relate to. I want our community and generation to be able to turn on the radio and have an artist like myself that they can identify with.

AS AN ARTIST?

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MOST LACKING IN RAP MUSIC?

A consistent female presence. Whether gay, straight or bi, I think female rappers are too few and far between. HOW DID YOUR FAMILY REACT TO YOU PURSUING A CAREER IN RAP?

WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN RAP MUSIC?

When I was five or six. I initially pursued sports and kept music as a hobby, but once that didn’t work out I put all my focus into music, and have been giving it my all ever since. WHAT WAS IT ABOUT RAP THAT DREW YOU IN?

You can express yourself without having to hold back. [Rap] gives you a chance to separate yourself from all the others and gives you an identity and a voice. WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE?

In high school my friends and I did a charity show for the studio we used to record at. WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT THAT PERFORMANCE?

Being nervous and scared I would forget the words, but at the same time being excited about seeing all the people there sing along. WHAT HAS CHANGED MOST ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST?

I’m much more confident, more mature, more focused, and more determined. RAP MUSIC TENDS TO BE A STRAIGHT-MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY. WHAT CONCERNS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THAT?

18 • SEOUL, S. KOREA CURRENTLY RESIDING ON CAMPUS AT PENN STATE WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN RAP MUSIC?

I hadn’t heard American hip-hop until I was about 10, and my interest in the music grew when I was about 12.

2

Definitely my confidence and my passion. I’ve always been shy about my music, and I still am now, but I’m not as timid as I used to be. Instead of thinking of it as a performance, I look at it as another opportunity to be heard, and I look at it more as an adrenaline rush rather than, necessarily, as being nervous. I’ve learned to have more fun with it. And with random people recognizing me in the streets crediting me for an amazing performance or getting messages on Facebook or YouTube from strangers telling me they appreciate my music and the message I’m trying to give, all the support just helps me remember why I love doing what I do so much. RAP MUSIC TENDS TO BE A STRAIGHT-MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY. WHAT CONCERNS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THAT?

My first performance was actually just last year, my freshman year of college, at a school talent show.

Nothing. It just means females (or gay males) will have a much more difficult time being accepted into the industry, especially when you’re trying to keep your true image without having to become a slut-rapper like most female rappers become. Just because something’s challenging doesn’t mean you quit or look for an easier alternative. It’s your own talent that got you the capability to be signed, so why should you have to change anything about that just to be accepted? You can’t make everyone happy.

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT THAT

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MOST LACKING IN

WHAT WAS IT ABOUT RAP THAT DREW YOU IN?

Just the fact that it was so different from any other types of music I’ve listened to in the past. I mean, I haven’t heard a lot of people rap when I was growing up in Korea anyway, so I just found it fascinating. WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE?

PERFORMANCE?

I remember everything. I remember how nervous I was. I was backstage just walking back and forth, breathing heavy and fanning myself because I was getting hot. But, when the curtains opened, I looked into the audience and found 2 full rows of everyone from my dance crew, who are like my family, cheering for meand that’s when I stopped being nervous. I performed the whole time, not with the lyrics in my mind, but just thinking in my head, “don’t mess up”. When I finished, it was the most amazing feeling ever. Even the judges stood up for me and told me that I have something very special. I’ll never forget the goosebumps.

THEY MIGHT NOT ACCEPT THE FACT THAT DOMINANT WOMEN WANT IN, AND THEY MIGHT NOT LET US IN BECAUSE OF WHAT TYPE OF WOMEN WE ARE.” —STUD 27 -

RAP MUSIC?

YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE?

Passion. A lot of “rappers” nowadays act like they’re in it because they love it, but you can hear it in their lyrics, in their delivery. There is no way a rapper has a passion for “rapping” about money, clothes, cars, partying, etc, all day in every single song they put out. No way. Some people just “rap” because they realized other people like to listen to them, and so, they use it to get money or just to feel loved. But, those are the kind of “rappers” who give the music a bad name and represent it the wrong way.

That my mother’s backyard doesn’t necessarily count as a venue. [Laughs]

HOW DID YOUR FAMILY REACT TO YOU PURSUING A CAREER IN RAP?

They didn’t support it at all. I come from a typical, traditional Korean family, so being in the music industry isn’t their portrayal of an occupation at all.

THINKING BACK TO THAT FIRST PERFORMANCE AND COMPARING IT TO NOW, WHAT HAS CHANGED MOST ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST?

I view the music industry much differently than I did a few years ago. After meeting so many people and experiencing what life has to offer as a whole, I became a new person. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MOST LACKING IN RAP MUSIC? Lesbians. HOW DID YOUR PARENTS/FAMILY REACT TO YOU PURSUING A CAREER IN RAP?

My family doesn’t care about what I pursue. They just want me to be successful and go 120% at anything I do.

WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE TO BRING TO THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY?

WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE TO BRING TO THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY?

A new definition of what hip hop really is. If our community really had passion for the music, then what gender you are or where you come from shouldn’t matter. It should be about working together, making real music and keeping the tradition alive.

Diversity.

< JAY SQUARED 25 • SAN DIEGO, CA CURRENTLY RESIDING IN SAN DIEGO, CA

< HART 22 • California Currently residing in Florida WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN RAP MUSIC?

I’m a fan of music in general. Being a band geek all your life has an impact, but I’m more of a comedic artist and producer than a rapper. WHAT WAS IT ABOUT RAP THAT DREW YOU IN?

WHAT WAS IT ABOUT RAP THAT DREW YOU IN?

I love the raw expression of emotion laid on top of a good beat. Rap music has never been concerned about fitting the mold or being overly PC. It’s personal, up front, in your face, and uncensored. I enjoy the freedom to creatively express myself without limits. WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE?

When I got into high school, I started writing songs, performing at open mic nights/spoken word/poetry slams. At my senior grad night, I battled this guy in front of about 500 students.

How artists are able to talk about their experiences. It’s refreshing to hear those stories.

ergy of the crowd really gave me a boost. The atmosphere of the packed gym and hearing the kids cheer and laugh at my punch lines were intense. The look on the guy’s face when I won was pretty priceless. WHAT HAS CHANGED MOST ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST?

I’ve definitely learned a lot more about recording, stage presence, delivery and rhyme schemes. I’m definitely more confident in my performance skills now. Other than that, I’ve just had more life experiences which have given me more writing material, perspective and composure. RAP MUSIC TENDS TO BE A STRAIGHT-MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY. WHAT CONCERNS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THAT?

Well, as a gay white female, I’m clearly the minority in rap music. There is much more scrutiny on my lyrical content, stage presence and delivery. I’ve learned to deal with the pressure. As for males, I have a lot of respect for some rappers in the game despite a lot of critics who claim the lyricism is misogynistic, offensive, violent, over-sexed, etc. It’s entertainment people, relax. With the influential power that many of these rappers hold, I just wish that at least one would take notice to talent like Rainbow Noise and solidify the legitimacy of our sound. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MOST LACKING IN RAP MUSIC?

Rainbow Noise! Honestly, I think there need to be more female rapper collaborations. Guys collaborate all the time even though each one claims he’s the best rapper. With female rappers, they act like there can one be one top chick and they refuse to put another female on the track. HOW DID YOUR PARENTS/FAMILY REACT TO YOU PURSUING A CAREER IN RAP?

My parents thought it was cute when I was younger. When they realized that I was really going to pursue it, they weren’t so excited. They criticized my lyrical content and were skeptical. Now they are huge supporters and come to shows whenever they can. WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE TO BRING TO THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY?

I hope to bring awareness to what we’re doing and get acceptance from the mainstream. We’re just trying to be ourselves, produce quality music and get paid! We have already started a movement for LGBT artists. I hope to show these rappers that studs/girls can do it just as well, if not better.

SOY MUJER

SHE -

shep33SoyMujer.pmd

33 -

VES ON THE SHEL SHELVES

NOV ‘01 WOMEN’S WHITE PARTY ROOFTOP-STYLE IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI. ....................................................................................

BY MARISSA COHEN

SAME GENDER LOVING AND LOVING IT by Love Dixon Speaker and activist Love Dixon addresses the unique issues in the lives of African-American lesbians and explores their experiences with coming out, religion, shame, sexuality and relationship issues, and much more. Dixon offers self-esteem and empowerment tools for Black lesbians in this book that encourages embracing your total self and daring to live from your heart. Love bravely sets forth a manifesto designed to encourage African-American lesbians to live a life free from shame and full of power and bravery.

STUFF THAT MAKES A GAY HEART WEEP by Freeman Hall Oh, Freeman Hall, author of the acclaimed Retail Hell, I don't mean to sound biased or anything, but I think I love you. This book-length list won’t make the queer community weep with anything but laughter. I mean from "Towns Without Target, Trader Joes, or Whole Foods" to "Angelina Jolie is Not Gay," all our pet peeves are there. It's supposed to be a hilarious pop culture send-up and that's exactly what it is, sort of Perez Hilton lite. I'll love Hall forever for including gems like "Getting Busted for Not Going Green" and "Fixing Things With Duct Tape."

ADDICT NATION by Jane Velez -Mitchell Host of the TV show Issues, Velez-Mitchell has a crack at all kinds of addictions, from drug and alcohol addictions to unhealthy relationship patterns and even social networking. Her premise is that big companies are mass marketing addictions to America and denying us of our basic freedoms; meanwhile, we’re utterly unaware that we’re being manipulated. Whew, it will make you want to riot in the streets. Nancy Grace and Joy Behar both endorsed this sucker-punch of a statisticpacked book and Velez-Mitchell's style is no-nonsense, engaging, and fun.

SHE SCOPES

WITH THE VILLAGE SAGE

AQUARIUS JAN 20 - FEB 19 our energy is going full steam ahead, as you snap, crackle and pop your way into your future. While one part of you is taking care of business as usual, another part is figuring out how to do it bigger and better. You’re the ‘Pied Piper’ now and people will happily follow where you lead, so make sure you know where you’re going. Don’t be afraid to ask for directions.

LEO JULY 23 - AUG 23 Your mind is trying to focus on practical matters like making self and home improvements, creating a realistic budget and laying the groundwork for future projects. However, the impish part of your mind is very busy trying to create fun new adventures to have and to share with family and friends. The good news is you can actually do both. Self-control allows you to deal with changing circumstances in constructive ways. Use it.

PISCES FEB 20 - MAR 20 Your imagination is fired up, coloring your future with a rose-colored hue, and anything is possible. However, you will have to weigh possibility against probability in order to achieve your vision, if not your goals. Don’t neglect your everyday life or the people in it. Be ready, willing, and able to make adjustments in the grand plan, but don’t allow yourself to be pressured into anything that doesn’t feel right. Trust your gut.

VIRGO AUG 24 - SEPT 23 You have many new opportunities to expand and explore. However, not all opportunities are equal or in your best interests, so do your homework and check the cards before making any major decisions or commitments. You want to change and improve your environment, your health, your relationships and your finances. You will. Slowly but surely, it is happening.

ARIES MAR 21 - APR 19 You’re feeling super-charged, ready to leap over tall obstacles and toss out what no longer serves you. While you usually like to go it alone, you are realizing that you get more done as part of a team, so you need to hone your cooperating and compromising skills. Your finances are your focus, and improving them is your goal. Use what you have, conserve, and budget realistically, rather than optimistically.

LIBRA SEPT 24 - OCT 23 Your focus is laser-beamed on your finances and in creating more security by using your considerable mind power and your charm to win over allies. Remember to balance possible with probable, fact from fantasy, and realistic time-tables, budgets, and projections with hopeful ones. Unique opportunities to increase your cash-flow may distract you from your tasks, so be sure to finish what you start.

TAURUS APR 20 - MAY 20 You’re in a ‘we’ kind of mood, and all of your relationships will benefit from a more cooperative you. Your love life will benefit from a few extra shots of passion. However, there is a danger that desire may throw caution to the wind. Enjoy this new adventurous energy, but scope out the landscape before making the leap into unknown territory. That especially includes financial relationships as well.

SCORPIO OCT 24 - NOV 22 You have the opportunity to re-invent yourself across the board - from the work that you do and how you do it, to the relationships you have and how you interact with loved ones. Who you know is as important as what you know, so make sure you network with as many people as possible now, but be ‘artfully vague’ about nitty-gritty details. This is a good time to make any necessary adjustments to your personal habits.

GEMINI MAY 21 - JUN 21 You’ll have plenty of opportunities to team up with others that could become significant in your life, both professionally and personally. Keep your options open until your ‘gut’ points you in the right direction and then go for it. Be sure you get all of your work done before going out to play. It’s a good time to revise your strategies for getting the job done, improving your health and fitness and achieving your goals. Don’t flip-flop.

SAGITTARIUS NOV 23 - DEC 21 The planets jolt your focus out of the past and into making your present a true gift. While it’s true that you are what you eat, and you can certainly improve the quality of your diet, it’s also true that you are what you think. No more negative selftalk or pessimistic projections of failure! You can succeed at anything that you put time and effort into, as long as you combine creative thinking with careful planning.

CANCER JUNE 22 - JULY 22 You’ll get to strut your stuff to appreciative audiences and finally get the recognition you deserve for jobs well done and life well lived. You’ll also get permission from the Universe to go out and play, and have some mindless fun. You’ll have fun too, using your considerable mind power and common sense to create new strategies to achieve both personal and professional goals. Once you decide, commit to those new goals.

CAPRICORN DEC 22 - JAN 19 The good news is that you can have your cake, and eat it too. You can even lick the bowl, but it’s up to you to stop before you’re really sorry you ate the whole thing. Everyone’s going to want to come out and play with you. Business will be booming. Enjoy it, but don’t burn the candles at both ends. Be realistic about your possibilities.
