WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR OF HOCKEY FRASER HENDERSON
It is great pleasure that I welcome you to the Sherborne School U11 Prep School Hockey Tournament. This is a great opportunity to showcase the very best hockey in this area, and I hope all the players and coaches are looking forward to an exciting day of competitive hockey. We hope to be able to build on the excellent relationships that exist between Sherborne School and your school both this year and into the future.
Lunch will be provided for players, staff, and parents in the Upper Pavilion and we look forward to greeting many of you there.
Hockey is a fast and dynamic game, but it is also about enjoyment, so please respect your opposition, the umpires, and tournament officials. All matches will be centrally timed on each pitch, please be ready to start each match promptly.
Fraser Henderson joined Sherborne in 2023 as Director of Hockey and is a wellestablished coach at both school and club level. A successful hockey player in his own right, Fraser represented Scotland at U18 and U21 levels. He is an FIH & England Hockey coach and has thrown himself into developing the hockey programme at Sherborne, particularly indoor hockey, in the new Sherborne Sports Centre indoor hockey facility.

SPOR T AT S HE R B ORNE
Sport plays a central part of life at Sherborne. Boys are active, engaged in sport and make friendships for life.
Sport at Sherborne aims to bring out the very best in our talented sportsmen yet we are committed to encouraging the participation of every single boy.
For us, Sport is a success if a boy finds an activity that he enjoys and continues once he leaves School. We want to form habits of healthy living; shaping a commitment to regular exercise because we recognise its importance to both physical and mental wellbeing.
We offer a carousel of Sport for Third Formers to enjoy, giving them a huge variety of options right from the start of their time at Sherborne. The options include traditional sports like rugby, football, cricket and hockey, as well as activities like squash, fives, clay pigeon shooting and golf. Our teams enjoy regular success in competitive fixtures, and we are proud to have some of the country’s best athletes in our midst. We provide the opportunities for them to make the most of their talent, while celebrating the sporting achievements of everyone. Sport at Sherborne takes place in a number of venues, including two playing fields complexes with astros at The Upper and Carey's, and in the newly opened Sherborne Sports Centre, providing a state-of-the-art health, fitness and wellbeing facility. This includes a magnificent five-court sports hall, bespoke climbing and bouldering walls, squash courts, fitness studios and gym.
HOC KEY AT S HERBORNE
Sherborne’s hockey teams compete up to national level across all age groups. The speed at which the modern game is played necessitates careful attention to strength and conditioning among top players. This is a key feature of training for our 1st XI and ensures that our hockey-playing boys are resilient, match-fit and are at the very peak of fitness.
Whether they play for the First XI in England Hockey’s National Championship or for a team whose focus is on enjoying the match against other local players, our boys gain a huge amount from their time on the hockey pitch. The teams share a spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect. For elite players, there are opportunities to train with some of the finest up-and-coming players in the country. Our coaching team includes former internationals: people who understand the commitment that goes into competing at the very highest level. They are passionate about the sport, and want every player to enjoy it for its own sake.
Boys have the opportunity to play in the National Indoor competitions and they also share training and fixtures with Sherborne Girls; in addition to a range of fixtures against local club and school sides. Additionally, boys are able to access further opportunities throughout the year with Yeovil & Sherborne Hockey Club, playing in the West Premier Leagues.
S PO R T S S CHO L A RSHIPS
Sports Scholarships are available for boys demonstrating exceptional talent and potential in one or more activities.
Boys wishing to be considered should have already satisfied the School’s academic entry requirements and been offered a place at the School.
SHERBORNE SCHOOL
Sherborne offers a distinctive education in so many ways, but none more so than in our commitment to providing an all-boys, full-boarding experience. We are one of only a handful of schools in the UK to adopt this approach. We do so because we value the time it gives us to create a rich and varied tapestry of experiences for our pupils.
We host regular tour mornings throughout the year for small groups of interested parents and boys to visit us, meet with key members of staff, and find out more about the school. We recommend registration by the end of year 5, so that your son can enjoy all the events we plan for boys in Year 6 and Year 7, as part of the admissions journey.
