Existing railway arches and space beside the archways behind station. - Industrial spaces
The original railway arches are still in use in Peckham Rye Station. Placed above road level and partnered with a beautiful victorian station. the vaulted space beneath them vary in size as they dont sit square and are not symettrical to one another. Traditionally railway arches have been used as storage or garage spaces but the more contemporary approach is to glaze them and convert them into modern spaces as they are a strong, sustainable strucutre with alot of character and possibilities when turned into an interior space. The proposal proposes that this is what occurs to the Reckham Rye square archways. They will be glaze fronted with white washed brickwork to maximize light. These archways are one of the oldest parts of Peckhams history and stand proudly still to this day and are part of the communities heritage. This should not be lost, therefore i chose to leave them as exposed as possible, This has happened to alot of railway arches in the last 10 years in east london., The constant growth of london means innovative space useage is occuring.
