Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) As defined by Durer, perspectival projection is a picture plane that has either been drawn, painted or carved, all of which portrays various individual objects by capturing the space within a frame. Perspectival view exists when the entire picture is transformed into the way we believe things are seen when we are looking through the window. This window view is represented by drawing a transparent line through the view, which appears as a “virtual pyramid”, with the tip of this pyramid as eye view and base as the object the eye sees.
Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)
All the elements or points in a homogenous space interact or are joined only to be representations of positions or things that are unquantifiable instead of possessing independent content of their own. The figures in this space can be drawn from every point in space in every direction and magnitude.

Perspective 1 Perspective 2
My notations mainly focus on the atmosphere surrounding Marco Polo and his resulting emotions and reactions. I added a new symbol, signifying volume or sound to represent the intensity and outcry of the characters. I have used all the symbols provided as well to illustrate the scene in relation to my story.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 This view consist of no interrupting walls in the space between and allows for the characters to be seen more evidently. Most importantly, this front facing view shows symmetry and is a good introduction to the entrance of my city. It brilliantly summarises the first impression Marco Polo has of the city.
In this view, i wanted to show in a bigger scale, of what really happens in my city. As i wanted to emphasise on the secret chaos and oppression in the hidden parts of this city, i picked a larger perspective that could fit the different situations i have included in this scene as i will be using the background, the sides, the centre and the foreground to illustrate this scene.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2
In this scene, the characters are in sorrow and pain. The scene is quite empty and seems abandoned. There are bodies or people but the bodies are not complete and the people are feeling empty despite the beauty of the surroundings. These ugly feelings are hidden in the background behind the “joyful and beautiful. This odd contrast also shows the disappointment and confusion Marco Polo had when he first entered and discovered that Hypatia is not what he really thinks it is. In this scene, oppression and ignorance is the main theme. It expresses the true emotions and sufferings of the people in the city that has been hidden way by its grand and majestic architecture or landscape. It also emphasises on its dark and horrific atmosphere and the fear Marco Polo felt after he discovered the true reality of this city. People are desperately trying to escape this city but they are trapped inside. The root cause of this chaos is the ignorance of their king and its people.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) Autographic is a direct translation of art into the built form. They are those forms of art, like sculptures or paintings, in which their authenticity depends upon the direct contact or work of the author. In contrast, the allographic are the forms of art that do not require the direct intervention of the author to be produced, and can be made into many copies. Therefore, it can be reproduced with a disconnection from the author by means of notations.
Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) Architects need new representational techniques because of the inevitability of architecutre, as a social system, behaving to some degree like language, and on the other hand, the impossibility of architecture ever approaching the fluidity and transparency of discursive language. Moreover, there have always beem a conflict in language and representation brought to crisis in the context of new technologies and urban conditions.

APPENDIX
1) Old quad is modelled in rhino according to guidelines provided
2) Images of characters chosen are cleaned up using photoshop and its sillhouette made into an autocad drawing to be imported into rhino
4) Perspectives are made into 2D and edited using photoshop to add textures
5) Notations are added in rhino using symbols provided and then made into 2D
10
3) Outlines of characters are made into surfaces and arranged in their positions according to the scene designed in the chosen perspectives.
6) Using the live paint tool in Adobe Illustrator, colours and pattern are added to the symbos used and linework made into 0.01pt for the arches, ribs and vaults and 0.1pt for the rest.
