Police officials across the country say they receive reports of people getting ripped off on internet deals on a regular basis, but buyers and sellers with bad intentions will balk at meeting at a police station or other safe location. In 2009, Phillip Markoff became known as the first “Craigslist Killer” after the armed robbery and murder of a woman who had advertised her massage services on Craigslist. Since then, it is estimated that there have been over 100 murders related to Craigslist listings. The Treasure Island Police Department is located at 180 108th Ave.

TREASURE ISLAND - In response to frequent local and nationwide reports of Craigslist buyers and sellers getting ripped off or physically harmed, the Treasure Island Police Department has set up an "Internet Purchase Exchange Location" in the TIPD parking lot near the main entrance to the police station. The designated spot is under constant video surveillance. According to Treasure Island Chief of Police Armand J.J. Boudreau, stories of people getting robbed, or worse, are common, and being able to meet at the police station to exchange goods and cash will cut down on the potential for a meeting to go bad.

Treasure Island woman arrested for attacking stranger with knife TREASURE ISLAND - According to the Treasure Island Police Department, a Treasure Island woman was arrested for trying to stab a man whose car was parked near her driveway. The man told investigators that the woman, Carrie Lynn Bowling, 34, started yelling incoherently at him when she saw the man’s car parked near her driveway. The man and his girlfriend quickly got in the car, but Bowling approached the vehicle and thrust a knife at the man through the open driver’s side window. The man was able to grab Bowling’s arm and detain her until police arrived. Police said Bowling’s behaivor was erratic, and when put in a police car, she ripped a seat cover. A toxicology screen later found cocaine in her system. She was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child neglect and criminal mischief. Bowling’s 2-year-old daughter was

Sea Dog Pub and Brewery coming to Treasure Island TREASURE ISLAND - The Mainebased Sea Dog Pub and Brewery company recently announced plans to expand their restaurant and brewery chain to Treasure Island. Although it is early in the planning stages, the brew-pub is expected to be housed at the former site of Captain Kosmakos Bar & Grill, located at 9610 Gulf Blvd. Captain Kosmakos was once a popular waterfront restaurant, but the property has been vacant for several years. The owners of the new pub expect it will be open within about six months.

midbeachnews Another lawsuit adds to Madeira Beach angst By Beth Ludwig MADEIRA BEACH - Ethics complaints are rapidly piling up against various current and former Madeira Beach officials, including City Manager Shane Crawford, Mayor Travis Palladeno and Commissioner Elaine Poe, just to name a few. A recent lawsuit filed against the city claims that members of the city commission violated the Florida Sunshine Law when they received information from the city attorney, Tom Trask, prior to the commission’s vote to pay the legal fees for city officials who have been targeted by residents in recent months. This latest legal action, just one of many, is related to a previous suit that also alleges a Sunshine Law violation, this one involving the appointment of Housh Ghovaee to fill the commission seat that was left vacant a couple of

The work will include road and drainage i m p r o v e m e n ts and will sometimes involve full road closures. CLEARWATER BEACH - City officials recently unveiled a proposal to convert two main Clearwater Beach roadways into one-way streets in a bid to find a solution to the area’s ever growing traffic problems. According to Paul Bertels, Clearwater’s traffic operations manager, the plan would have turned Coronado Drive into a one-way street going south and Hamden Drive into a one-way street going north, at a cost of about $10,000, with no construction required. However, when the proposal was put to the Clearwater City Council for a vote, it was shot down 4-1, with Mayor George Cretekos the lone dissenter. The council had originally voted in support of a five-month trial period for the one-way streets, but backtracked

after dozens of residents spoke out against the idea.

City officials asserted that the decision to kill the park plan was budgetary in nature and simply not a priority at this time, although several residents had voiced concerns about the type of people who use the park at night and the need to better monitor

Belleair Beach gains a town marshal BELLEAIR BEACH - There’s a new town marshal in Belleair Beach, none other than current Code Enforcement Officer Jack White. The city council recently voted in support of an ordinance granting White official police powers within the city. His new title will be Code Enforcement Officer/Town Marshal. This designation will give White the authority to make arrests without a warrant if he sees a crime being committed, as well as grant him other police powers. Several residents were concerned about the code enforcement officer being able to carry a gun while on duty. However, as a retired police officer, White already has the right to do this. Councilmembers said that White’s duties will serve to supplement Sheriff’s deputies’ duties at his own discretion.

Fishing Report The fishing in our area, just like the weather, keeps getting hotter.

rom Honeymoon Island south, the grass flats are holding plenty of white bait and the fish that feed on them. The easiest of these to catch is our spotted trout. Using a popping cork and either live white bait or live shrimp, you will harvest plenty of this bountiful fish. If you find youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re catching a lot of shorts, under 15 inches, try losing the cork. The big ones may be sitting down in the grass. I like a number one circle hook with a small split shot set 18 inches from the hook. With the same set-up, you might want to try around the mangrove islands. For redfish and snook, move the bait slowly on the bottom near the shore.

Reds also like cut bait presented the same way. What's the best time to fish? This is the question we get asked the most. Early morning and early evening. If the incoming tide coincides with these times, then you are in luck. This brings in cooler water and the bait that come with it. Having said that, if I feel like fishing I grab my gear and go. Fishing off docks and seawalls has been producing trout, reds, sheepshead and black drum. Reports of pompano, flounder and Spanish mackerel are also coming from our beaches.

Cooters Restaurant & Bar: Good olâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Florida

f you Google cool seafood joints in Clearwater Beach, my guess is Cooters Restaurant & Bar will be at the top of the list. What a great place. No, you are not going to be wowed by the dĂŠcor, because, again, it's a great seafood joint in Florida. It's exactly what I would picture if I were to imagine the perfect Florida seafood restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing, and while, yes, I am a total restaurant snob, I do not want to sit in a cold and stiff restaurant. I want the warm, inviting and casual atmosphere that Cooters in CB offers. I know I said casual twice, but I don't utilize a thesaurus when I describe the interior of a restaurant. It's charming, it's, well, let's just say it's Florida. And I love my Florida. On my most recent visit, I chose to dine outside on the front patio, but there is no shortage of seating inside the restaurant. My server was due to give birth at any given table, bless her heart. Yuck, I hate it when Southerners say that, and I can say that because I am one.

Moving on, Jonnie was AWESOME. I know if I was eight or nine months pregnant, I would be an ass to every table. Actually, if I was at all pregnant, I would be a jerk. Guys don't like pain or discomfort. OK, I'll move on. I happened, by freak of convenience, to dine at Cooters on a Thursday afternoon, which happens to be Super Grouper Thursday, when they offer a Caesar salad with grouper cheeks, a g r o u p e r Reuben, a grouper

sandwich, and I want to say grouper tacos and a handful of other grouper items. And, yes, they have a zillion other items in addition to their amazing seafood, such as BBQ Baby Back Ribs, the Famous Cooter Chicken, a Fish and Chips basket, the Sirloin Burger, and the list of mouthwatering items goes on. I actually wanted to try their killer wings but, hey, did you forget I was there on Grouper

Thursday? So I went with the grouper Reuben and the grouper sandwich, because I couldn't decide what to get and so what do you do? You order both. OMG, they were both out of this world. The Reuben was amazing and the grouper went perfectly with the Thousand Island dressing, sauerkraut and cheese. The grouper sandwich was perfectly prepared and the fresh, fresh bun was delicious. And, yes, I meant to say fresh twice. Oh, I almost forgot. I also had the She Crab soup, and let me say this, it was hands-down the best in the area. I dare anyone to create a better tasting She Crab. And just as amazing were the reasonable, and in my opinion, cheap prices. OK, affordable. Obviously I love the place. It is right down my alley and, truthfully, the perfect restaurant for me. Well, me and about a million others, I reckon. And I must confess, I have been to Cooters a ton of times, so I know you also have to order the Old Bay Steamer Bucket, which consists of mussels, oysters, shrimp, crab legs and corn steamed in a bucket and served with red potatoes and garlic bread. Damn, folks, get in there. I ain't playin'!
