The annual PERRY HISTORIANS CHRISTMAS BAZAAR, DECEMBER 2nd, from 10 am. – 4 pm., at Airy View Schoolhouse, off Dix Hill Rd., New Bloomfield. The library is also open for genealogical research that day as well. Aside from all the home made goodies, the Historians will host local artists, Mary Kint, of Kistler, and Pauline Smith, of Loysville, along with Ralph Hocker, Marysville native . They will show case their art forms on glass, canvas, vintage collectibles, wood, gourds and slate. The newest Perry County history publications will also be presented and signed by Linda Martin Gilmore, and Dennis Hocker. Their latest focus is on Blain, Loysville, Landisburg and Green Park. Frank Trout will also show off his book of personal paintings. While sipping mulled cider, check out Hardy’s Maple Syrup. Dennis Hardy, Elliottsburg, produces Perry County maple syrup, maple sugar like brown sugar, maple mustard, and maple coated nuts. Tony Campbell, Andersonburg, will have home made brooms for sale, too. Take a break and enjoy a turkey bbq sandwich or a bowl of famous chicken corn soup made from Perry County sweet corn. Other sandwiches and soups will also be available, as well as candies and specialty sweets. Bring the grandchildren to tour the library and stop at the new “ Kids Korner Gift Shoppe “, which features kid friendly gifts for parents and special friends. They can browse for gifts while learning about Perry County history!! New this year are door prize drawings; Mary Kint, of Kistler, has donated a hand painted sleigh, featuring Christmas scenes. In an effort to get done with The Shopper’s Remedy and get it to the printer on time I realized that I didn’t have a Season’s Greetings from us to all of you, how sad is that. So busy with getting the paper done and doing other things that I set aside the most important thing in my life which is my relationship with Jesus Christ my Savior, my redeemer, my comforter and MY BESTEST FRIEND. It is the month that we celebrate His birth and God delivering on His promise throughout the scriptures. It is a wonderful time of year visiting with family and striving to make it a special time with family and friends. In striving to try to make the holidays as the history books, society, and media has made it appear it should be, it is so easy to loose sight of the true meaning of Christmas and what it means to us who believe in Jesus as our Lord & Savior. God gave us His son, His ONLY son created with a human woman so that we all could be one with Him and have ALL our sins be forgiven and be able to learn directly from Him by the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within each one of us. Enabling us to receive the power and authority to defeat the enemy as they strive to attack and steal our joy and kill our souls and keep us from fulfilling our divine purpose that has been appointed to us before we were even a thought. How vast and how great are the thoughts and accomplishments that God has for each one of us on the face of the earth. If we could but grasp all that He desires for us, that my friends, would be the best gift of all for all mankind. One thing I have learned is that Love is the only thing that will last for all eternity. Love is why God sent Jesus to us, Love is the answer. to all our problems. So this Holiday season I’m going to strive to spread more love and keep a smile on my face and love in my heart and be as patient and kind as I can and trust me, I will be depending upon the Holy Spirit to accomplish that goal for in my own strength I will fail miseerably. May you all enjoy the Holiday Season and may the New Year bring you happiness, prosperity but most of all LOVE!! Fall for Hummingbirds Contest Attract Migrating Hummingbirds To Your Feeders For A Chance At Prizes. Hummingbirds are being found with increasing frequency in the fall & winter seasons in Pennsylvania. About 99% of the hummingbirds that are found east of the Mississippi are Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, but sometimes during fall and winter other species of hummingbirds pass through Pennsylvania as the travel from breeding grounds in Alaska to wintering spots along the Gulf Coast. Ornithologists are very interested in learning more about these wayward little birds. Your participation can help contribute to the growing body of information about migrating hummingbirds. If you are able to get a confirmed hummingbird to visit your feeders, you can win a prize. In addition, researchers with federal banding permits would like to band the late season hummingbirds, if the homeowners are willing. NOTE: Maintain a clean feeder whenever you leave it out for birds. It is recommended that you clean the feeder at least weekly, more often if the sugar mixture gets cloudy. The mixture for the feeders should always be 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. No additives or dyes are ever needed. If temperatures drop below freezing, bring the feeders in overnight. It is a myth that keeping feeders up will prevent them from migrating in the fall. They will come and go as they please. We are only helping them fuel up in their journey.
