VBS BIBLE SCHOOL will be held at the MILLERSTOWN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH from 6:30-8:45 pm beginning Sunday, June 4th thru Thursday, June 8th. The theme for this year is Maker FunFactory- Created by God Built for a Purpose, and children ages 4 years old through 5th grade are invited to attend.

SHERMANS DALE A NIGHT OF MUSIC will be held on Wednesday, June 14th at Lupfer’s Grove (on Route 34 just north of Shermans Dale (rain or shine). Soups and sandwiches will be available beginning at 4:30 pm. Music begins at 5 pm. The music will showcase local Perry County performers from Carroll Township Elementary Band at 5 o’ clock, followed by the Buffalo Mountain Bluegrass Band—Autumn & Canyon Moore. The entertainment for the evening will be rounded out by the music of “Keepin’ It Simple.” Again, all FOOD donations will continue to go to the Perry County Food Bank. ALL CASH revenue will be divided between the Shermans Dale Fire Company and the Shermans Dale Ambulance Association. (Last year food valued at more than $2,000 was given to the Perry County Food Bank. Just over $1,000 each was donated to The Fire Company and the Ambulance Association). Everyone is invited. We ask you to bring a bag or a box (or at least a can) of non-perishable food items for donation to the Food Bank. Bring a donation, your chair and sit back to enjoy food and relaxation while giving a helping hand to local residents in need.

13th ANNUAL PERRY COUNTY AUTO MEET HOSTED BY THE SHERMANS DALE COMMUNITY FIRE COMPANY. Looking for that fun filled one day event for the whole family in June. Come on out on Sunday, June 25th, 2017 to the 13th Annual Perry County Auto Meet. The gates open at 9am and all vehicles, clubs and non food vendors are welcome. Event will be held at Lupfer’s Grove on Route 34, 5800 Spring Road, Shermans Dale, PA. 17090. Spectators are free and all vehicles, and vendors are subject to a small registration fee. Pre-registration for vehicles is $12. Get a Registration Form from the Events page of our Website www.shermansdalefire.com. Day of the event vehicle registration is $15 at the gate. For Non Food Vendors registration is $20 both prior to and on the day of the event.

PERRY COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE ARTS (PCCA) announces a call for artwork for its “Enhanced Thrift Art” exhibition, which will be on display at Landis House, 67 N. Fourth Street, Newport, Pa., from August 11 to November 4. “Enhanced Thrift Art” is an exhibition of artwork, with each visual art entry beginning as a piece of art or article found at a thrift store, yard sale or in your long ago forgotten storage area. The goal is to give neglected and abandoned art a makeover. You may draw, paint, collage or sew on it, or cut it up. Make it your own! PCCA is looking for two-dimensional and three-dimensional entries that include, but are not limited to, pictures, sculptures, clothing and jewelry. All entries are due Wednesday, July 26th. Happy Father’s Day Tribute...

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 18th. Father’s are important in our society. Many times I feel they are over looked and taken for granted and just not appreciated.

My daughter Rachel, when she was dating, came to me and said there aren’t any good men out there Mom. I said let’s pray and ask God to connect you to your perfect mate. Not long after that prayer she met Kris Boob and it didn’t take her long to know that he was the man she was looking for. They got married in 1999 and this month they will be married 18 years.

In 2002 Kris became a Daddy. I will never forget when he told Rachel he was going to be a “hands on” Daddy and he has been and is. The best thing he does as a dad is he treats my daughter with respect and love. He goes to work everyday and provides for his family.

Most importantly they work as a team. Trust me he’s not perfect but he tries hard and they work together at making their marriage work.

As I observe husbands and fathers at church and in everyday life, I see how important men are in our lives. They are the anchor we look

to to keep us grounded. Father’s have a huge responsiblity and purpose and when they take on the challenge of being a good Father there is nothing more touching and worthwhile to all mankind. For a good Father helps us to accept our Heavenly Father’s love and purpose for our lives.

THANK YOU to all the men out there who strive to be good fathers everyday. In this month’s issue there are quite a few places that have gifts for our wonderful Dad’s. Just a card expressing your appreciation of your Father is a blessing, delivering it in person is even better.

One is at Bald Eagle State Park and the other in in Hanover area at the Codorus State Park. Time is the best gift to give to your Dad if you have moved out on your own.

If you still live at home with your Dad just show him respect and love. Do those chores without being told twice and lend a helping hand with the things he has to get done on his day off.

Kudos to all the single dads out there who are struggling to stay in their children’s lives when Mom decides to move on for one reason or another. Kudos to you for taking the kids and being in their lives and not giving up.

In this day and age it’s not easy keeping a family together and being a good Father, yet many of you do just that. You keep your family together. I’ll end this with words from our Heavenly Father who instructs us from 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whome he may devour.”

Water recreation is a popular pastime. When the weather warms, people often take to coastal areas to enjoy some fun in the sun and surf. What to wear for a day on the water depends on the type of activity one is partaking in, but there are some essentials you do not want to forget to bring along.

Sturdy shoes: Whether you will be standing on the deck of a sailboat or baiting a hook alongside a river, footwear should be sturdy. Water makes for slippery conditions, and shoes that provide traction blend form and function. Although flip-flop sandals have become the go-to footwear, these shoes do not provide the arch support or traction necessary in wet conditions. A water shoe that has a sturdy sole as well as a breathable upper material is a better bet.

Sun protection: The Food and Drug Administration advises that surfaces such as snow, sand, grass, or water can reflect much of the UV radiation that reaches them. A day on the water or nearby reflective surfaces necessitates wearing sun protection products, such as broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses rated for 100 percent UV protection are good ideas. UV rays are most intense at noon, when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. It’s also important to note the higher the elevation, the greater the UV exposure

concentration because there is less atmosphere to absorb the UV rays.

Layers: The weather can be unpredictable, and the temperature inland may differ from the temperature at the shore by several degrees. When boating or visiting the coast, wear layered clothing so you can shed layers as needed to remain comfortable.

Change of clothing: Wet clothing can become uncomfortable to wear, and it may become dangerous if the temperature drops. Wet clothing can extract heat from the body much faster than dry clothing, potentially causing hypothermia, or a drop in body temperature. Couple wet clothing with windy conditions, and hypothermia can quickly set in. Always bring along a change of clothing and store it in a waterproof bag or container. This should include extra socks and shoes.

Life jacket: The Centers for Disease Control and Preventionsays drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury deaths in the United States. Whenever you are on or near the water, wearing a life jacket is a safe idea and one that can potentially save your life. A life jacket should be made available for everyone on a vessel.

Dress the part when spending a day on the water.
