ANNUAL COLLECTIBLE BIRTHDAY CALENDAR PROJECT UNDERWAY - Due to the COVID19-VIRUS, three Millerstown Community Success, Inc. projects have been canceled, both of the popular craft shows in March and November, and the outdoor show at the park in August. The funds that we raise always go back into the community to continue beautification and maintenance of Millerstown, but this year has not been a profitable year because of the virus shutdown. The only other project that the organization does is a really neat collectible birthday calendar each year, and we are asking people to support it to put together another great calendar for 2021. The calendar always has a picture of a historical building in the Millerstown area in black and white; this year is a picture of the stone building of the United Methodist Church in Millerstown Borough. Tom Ulsh takes the photographs each year of the building on the calendar. The 12 month tear-offs are below the picture. Calendars are $5 and birthdays and anniversaries are $1 for each name. You do not give the years, just the dates for each month. For additional
information and orders, call Curt or Sherry Black in Millerstown at 717-589-3598. Arrangements can be made to pick up the calendars at the Black home, or they can be mailed to you at an additional cost. The calendars will be available before Christmas, and they can also make great Christmas gifts. HOLIDAY BAZAAR & RAFFLE: Saturday, December 5th. Perry Historians annual holiday bazaar and raffle drawing, 10-2 at the Lenig/Focht Library (home of The Perry Historians) at 763 Dix Hill Rd., New Bloomfield. On the day of the bazaar, we will have the complete works of local authors Dennis Hocker, Linda Martin Gilmore, Jerry Clouse, David Taylor and of course all the Perry Historians published books and calendars, many at special “one-dayonly” pricing, just in time for Christmas. Any of these titles would make excellent gifts for the history buff in your life. Our newest publication “Perry Review volume 39-40 The Caroline Furnace and Iron Making in Perry County” will be available and author and Perry Historians co-founder Jerry A Clouse will be here to sign your very own copy. Perry County flags, license plates, Christmas ornaments and other memorabilia will be offered at discounted prices and Campbell’s brooms (made locally in Andersonburg) will be on sale, and of course Perry Historians home-made, old fashioned apple butter will be available for purchase. We have several tables available in our arts-n-crafts area so that local artists and crafters can showcase their wares. Tables are offered on a first-call, first serve basis, so don’t delay in reserving your space NOW. Each table rental is just $15. Please call 717-567-9110 or email fundraising@ theperryhistorians.org to reserve your table. And what bazaar would be complete without an entire selection of home baked treats, cookies, candies and the like. Due to COVID-19 and the necessary social distancing, all foods are offered “to-go”, but don’t forget to stop by the kitchen to pick up your home-made chicken corn soup, chili, sweet treats or hot mulled cider. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5th - CHRISTMAS AT THE POOL - Millerstown Community Fundraiser. 11am-5pm Various Vendors, Homemade Crafts, basket Raffles, Hot Foods, baked goods, and more. For more information contact Tessa Hinterliter 717-247-6353.

It’s a nearly-scientific fact that you can solve most any problem by putting dirt on it. Scraped knee? Dirt. Embarrassing bald spot? Dirt. Nagging mother-in-law? Dirt. Lots of it. Juuust kidding. The point is, when people need a little more excitement in life, they probably just need to add a little dirt. And that’s where KIOTI tractors come in. Intuitively designed to dominate the dirt, these machines make it an easy decision for anyone also inclined to favor the filthy.

ANNUAL COLLECTIBLE BIRTHDAY CALENDAR PROJECT UNDERWAY - Due to the COVID19-VIRUS, three Millerstown Community Success, Inc. projects have been canceled, both of the popular craft shows in
March and November, and the outdoor show at the park in August. The funds that we raise always go back into the community to continue beautification and maintenance of Millerstown, but this year has not been a profitable year because
of the virus shutdown. Calendars are $5 and birthdays

THE VARIOUS BENEFITS OF FARM-TO-TABLE Few things are more satisfying than biting into a fresh tomato right from the garden or seasoning a meal with herbs picked from a windowsill greenhouse. Restaurants recognize the value of such experiences, and more and more are relying on locally sourced products in their kitchens. The farm-to-table movement is not new, but it has gained momentum as consumers become increasingly enamored with the flavor and environmental impact of locally sourced foods. The National Restaurant Association found that farm-to-table food was one of its top 10 trends for 2015. Furthermore, the group says that one in five consumers are willing to pay more for local food, and 41 percent admit that locally sourced ingredients influence their decisions when choosing where to dine. Newcomers to the farm-to-table dining experience may not understand all the fuss surrounding this popular trend. The follow-

at the last possible minute before it turns up on a plate. This helps ensure that it contains the highest amount of nutrients and flavor, according to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Food that has to travel further is often picked well before it is ready, ripening on the way to stores or other vendors. • Better for the environment: Food that needn’t travel far before reaching diners’ plates saves roughly 500 gallons of diesel fuel to haul produce a distance of 1,500 miles. This conserves fossil fuels and prevents harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere. • Supports neighboring farms: Supporting farm-to-table restau rants and other eateries keeps business local in two different ways. It not only benefits local restaurants, but it also directly supports neighboring farms, fisheries and other suppliers. • Accessibility to seasonal choices: Farm-to-table eating provides a wide variety of in-season foods. This can translate into tastier foods because they are grown and harvested during their optimal growing season. • Reduces factory farming: According to O.info, the informational resource powered by Overstock.com, farm-to-table and local farming can reduce reliance on large, profit-driven corporations that may focus on maximum production over animal health and welfare. Local farms may be more inclined to treat their animals well and institute sustainable practices. • Learn about the community: A person might live in an area and never know that a local vineyard is in the vicinity or that a producer of straight-from-the-hive honey is nearby. Exploring farm-to-table resources can open people’s eyes to local businesses doing great work in and around their communities. Farm-to-table is a popular movement that people are embracing for various reasons.

HOW HELPING OTHERS HELPS YOU
Personal growth is at the heart of many New Year’s resolutions. Few paths to positive personal growth are more noble than resolving to help others through increased acts of generosity and kindness. According to Psychology Today, doing good for others, no matter how big or small the deed, feels good but also provides reciprocal benefits. The link between volunteering and lower rates of depression has been well-documented, and there is neural evidence from MRI studies suggesting a link between being generous and signs of happiness in the brain. The following are several ways to improve oneself by being more mindful of others.
• Be aware of social issues. Read your local newspaper to stay up-to-date on the pulse of your community as well as the world. Educate yourself about current issues that are affecting people from all walks of life. Understanding the needs or plights of others may boost your willingness to get involved with nonprofit organizations. It also may make you more empathetic and compassionate toward other people. • Volunteer at a charity. Find a charitable group with which you can volunteer your time. This is a great way to support a cause you believe in and makes it possible for you to collaborate with others who are like-minded, potentially helping you make new friends. • Learn a new language. North America is a melting pot that’s home to people from many different parts of the world. Learning a new language may facilitate interactions with fellow community members who might not speak English as a first language. • Help someone you know. It’s commendable to want to assist a charity or a global cause, but what about people close to you who may need a boost? Whether you’re lugging boxes to help a friend move or babysitting a niece or nephew so their parents can enjoy a much-needed night out, when you help someone, those good deeds will return to you in time. When making resolutions, people should consider goals that involve helping others. While this assistance can ben-
efit the people who are on the receiving end of the care and attention, those who are giving of themselves also reap considerable rewards.
