“ My name is Chris Foose and I am a Perry County native. I have been around the emergency services since I was young and grew up around the firehouse at Millerstown. I became a junior firefighter and began riding on the ambulance at the age of 14. When I was 16, I completed the PA DOH EMT-B course. After graduation from Greenwood High School, I started full time at Duncannon EMS where I continued to gain experience. After working at Duncannon EMS for two years, I was hired at Hershey Medical Center in the Emergency Department where I gained invaluable experience and knowledge. After three years in the Emergency Department, I transferred to Life Lion EMS where I have been employed for the last seven years. Now, I would like to serve as the Perry County Coroner and provide the level of compassion to the families and their passed relatives, as I would show my own loved ones. If elected to the position of Coroner, I want to look over every aspect of the coroner’s office and the budget to see where I would be able to save the county money. I have already spoken to Dauphin County on pricing for our lab testing and autopsies that we perform each year to save money. I plan to automate the record keeping of the office, as this will speed up the process of doing paperwork and the time that it takes to report to all required agencies. There are grant opportunities that the coroner’s office can apply for and I intend to look into every one of those opportunities. One of the BIGGEST things that I would like to implement is the response of myself and a deputy coroner to all calls for service. This will allow for accountability of all the deputies and myself included. It will also reduce the risk of injury to the deputies while also reducing workmen’s compensation claim risk. These are just a few plans that I would like to accomplish, along with strengthening my relationship with Newport PSP and all of the other Fire and EMS organizations within our GREAT COUNTY!”

Fall for Hummingbirds Contest Attract Migrating Hummingbirds To Your Feeders For A Chance At Prizes. Hummingbirds are being found with increasing frequency in the fall & winter seasons in Pennsylvania. About 99% of the hummingbirds that are found east of the Mississippi are Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, but sometimes during fall and winter other species of hummingbirds pass through Pennsylvania as the travel from breeding grounds in Alaska to wintering spots along the Gulf Coast. Ornithologists are very interested in learning more about these wayward little birds. Your participation can help contribute to the growing body of information about migrating hummingbirds. If you are able to get a confirmed hummingbird to visit your feeders, you can win a prize. NOTE: Maintain a clean feeder whenever you leave it out for birds. It is recommended that you clean the feeder at least weekly, more often if the sugar mixture gets cloudy. The mixture for the feeders should always be 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. No additives or dyes are ever needed. If temperatures drop below freezing, bring the feeders in overnight. It is a myth that keeping feeders up will prevent them from migrating in the fall. They will come and go as they please. We are only helping them fuel up in their journey.
