EVENT: 33rd ANNUAL SHERMAN’S VALLEY HERITAGE DAYS, October 12-14; Blain, PA at Blain Picnic Grounds. $2 per person children under 12 admitted free. Antique tractors and farm equipment, steam engines, gas engines, lawn tractors, and automobiles. Antique car and tractor parades Saturday and Sunday at 1pm. Activities include: Threshing, Straw Baling, Sawmill, Cornshelling, Ensilage cutting, Shingle making, and Rock crushing. Amish Quilt auction held Saturday at 2pm. Flea Circus held at various times on Saturday. Children’s tent with various activities for the kids all weekend. Historical demonstrations of black smithing, broom making, chainsaw carving, etc. Horseshoe-pitching contest Saturday morning at 9am. Plenty of good food including sausage sandwiches, barbecue chicken, roast pork, scrapple, apple butter, ham and bean soup and chicken corn soup, pies, ice cream, French fries, pizza and so much more.

EVENT: LITTLE BUFFALO STATE PARK: Sat. Oct. 20th & Sun. Oct. 21st - Old Fashioned Apple Festival - Join the Park Staff and Friends of Little Buffalo for our annual Apple Festival! Enjoy demonstrations of corn grinding and apple pressing, live music, and take home some stone-ground corn meal and apple butter. Jay Smar will be performing on Saturday from 11-2pm and The Tim & Duane Band will be performing on Sunday at 1pm.

Activities are available for all ages, and our cake walk is 4

EVENT: LITTLE BUFFALO STATE PARK. Sat. Oct. 27th - Halloween Hay Rides - Dare to be scared? Come out and enjoy a haunted hay ride! Rides are free but donations are graciously accepted and used to improve the trail next year. We are also looking for volunteers to portray characters along the trail. Bring your own costume or borrow one of ours! The success of this event relies on its volunteers, so come out and join us! Dec. 17th-23rd - The Little Buffalo Christmas Trail – The Christmas Trail is brought to you by Little Buffalo State Park in conjunction with The Friends of Little Buffalo. Kids can meet Santa and enjoy the thousands of lights and holiday displays located along this quarter mile trail in the park’s East Picnic Area. Enjoy live music at the stage several of the nights and hot chocolate and cookies sold by local 4H groups in the warming hut. This is a free program. Please bring a flashlight, the parking areas are dark. Volunteers are needed for a variety of areas in the trail. For more details, check out our Facebook page or the DCNR Calendar of Events.

EVENT: Saturday, October 27th - TURKEY DINNER. The Perry Historians will host their annual Turkey Dinner at the Landisburg Fire Hall. Meals will be served from 11am-2pm and gain from 4pm-6pm. Includes; turkey and all the trimmings and home made desserts served buffet style. $12 per person, kids under 12 $6. Take-out available.

EVENT: MILLERSTOWN LIONS CLUB ANNOUNCES HALLOWEEN PARADE. The Millerstown Lions Club have finalized plans for their annual Halloween Parade for Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m.

The parade will form behind Greenwood High School at 6:30 p.m. and will move out promptly at 7 p.m led by the Greenwood High School Wildcat Marching Band. Cash prizes will be awarded to individuals dressed for the holiday season in these categories:funniest, prettiest, scariest and most original. Cash prizes will also be awarded for floats and marching groups. The parade will leave Greenwood High School and move down Sunbury Street to the Square, proceed up Market Street to Millerstown Motors, turn right up Greenwood Street to the Millerstown United Methodist Church, turn right onto High Street, and turn back on to Sunbury Street and return to the high school where it will disband. The parade will be canceled if there is rain. Let’s make this one of the largest parades ever and celebrate the Halloween season.

EVENT: SUPER Bingo to Benefit Millerstown Lions.

The Millerstown Lions Club is sponsoring Super Bingo on Sunday, November 4 at 1 p.m at the Millerstown Moose Lodge in Millerstown across from the Millerstown Community Park on West Juniata Parkway. Doors open

at 12 noon with food purchase available. There will be 20 cash games, raffles & more. Advance tickets are $20 but at the door, they will be $25. Tickets will be available from any Millerstown Lions Club member or at Bratton Insurance, Stitch in Time and Juniata Valley Bank in Millerstown. EVENT; Celebrate Veterans Day by attending the Juniata County Annual Veterans Queen Ball. The annual event will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 at the River Church social hall (formerly CJEMS Building) Mifflintown with a catered meal, music and the crowning of our new queen. EVENT: The 4th Annual Fall Festival & Craft Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 10th from 9 am to 2 pm at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1000 N. Front St., Liverpool. We will have our famous open pit BBQ chicken and open kettle chicken corn and ham/bean soups. Our slow cooked pulled fork as been a sell out in previous year so we will will have more! We will have a luncheon menu and a table full of delicious homemade baked goods to have as desserts or to take home. We have inside dining area as well as outside picnic tables for you to relax, talk and eat. The church members have been busy making holiday crafts and seasonal items for sale.

One of the favorite areas is the Good Shepherd Cookie Shoppe. Members have half dozen or dozen homemade cookies plated and ready for you to take home. You may decide to take as a hostess gift, freeze for later, or enjoy all for yourself! We are expecting 30 plus vendors and crafters this year. You will most certainly find the perfect gift for that hard to please person on your Christmas list. To order chicken halves, you need to preorder by November 3rd. Psalm 125: 1 & 2 NJKV: Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, Which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the LORD surrounds His people From this time forth and forever.

I read once that Billy Graham read 5 chapters of the Psalms everyday. If one does that you read through the book of Psalms in 30 days. I started doing that a while ago and it has really been a blessing to me spiritually and mentally. I find the Word of God to be a calming effect in my life and the more I read and get the Word in my heart the stronger I become and I actually BELIEVE that God is who He says He is. His presence is very real in my life

and without Him I am truly nothing. My goal in life is to “Walk with God” as Enoch did in Genesis 5:23-24 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he WAS not, for God took him.

I did a double take when I read that, “God took him.”

He didn’t die, God actually took him up to heaven with him, WOW. I know some theologians will say God didn’t do that but that’s how I read it and that is what I want for my life. Of course I’m not anywhere near where Enoch was when he “walked with God” but I’m working on it and I am thankful that God is patient with me and I am thankful that Jesus intercedes for me before the throne of God. Jesus is truly my best friend and comfort.

About 99% of the hummingbirds that are found east of the Mississippi are Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, but sometimes during fall and winter other species of hummingbirds pass through Pennsylvania as the travel from breeding grounds in Alaska to wintering spots along the Gulf Coast. Ornithologists are very interested in learning more about these wayward little birds. Your participation can help contribute to the growing body of information about migrating hummingbirds. die and you find out that there’s nothing…you just die.” I said to him, “Well if I die and there’s no heaven I haven’t lost anything because the Bible helps me to live a better life and to be a better person but, if I’m right and there is a Heaven and a Hell do you want to take a chance and burn in Hell for all eternity. My son made a decision to follow Jesus that very evening a few months later he was killed in a motorcycle accident. God was gracious to me and he let Chris visit me in my dream the night before the funeral and he said, “Mom, it’s okay, He loves me just the way I am, long hair and all, it doesn’t matter.

Please don’t cry, I have all my answers.” He smiled a beautiful, happy smile, Jesus was with him, they turned and Jesus put His arm around him and they walked away…please don’t cry mom. That happened October 7th, 1990…hard to believe it’s been 28 years. I still miss him but I know that Jesus loves him even more than I did and I was thankful to have him with me on earth for 19 years. Events in ones life can either destroy us or make us stronger, I am thankful that his death made our family stronger and much more loving.

I was truly lost at the age of 19, and my life was going crazy, I cried out to Jesus because as a young kid I did go to church occasionally and I did have a Bible in the house so I cried out to Jesus, “Jesus if you’re real please help me.” And He did. I literally felt Him hold me in His arms and He told me, “I got you Kid.” The next day I started reading the Bible and I haven’t stopped and that was 45 years ago, like I said I am thankful that God is patient.

According to John 3:15 “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” Hopefully you too have chosen life and life more abundantly but per chance you’re struggling right now on the face of the earth and you too need help…all you have to do is ask Jesus and He will direct you and guide you through the trials and tribulations that we encounter on the face of the earth as He prepares us for eternal life for He came so that we might have life and life more abundantly.

NOTE: Maintain a clean feeder whenever you leave it out for birds. It is recommended that you clean the feeder at least weekly, more often if the sugar mixture gets cloudy. The mixture for the feeders should always be 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. No additives or dyes are ever needed. If temperatures drop below freezing, bring the feeders in overnight. It is a myth that keeping feeders up will prevent them from migrating in the fall. They will come and go as they please. We are only helping them fuel up in their journey.

EVENT: MILLERSTOWN LIONS CLUB ANNOUNCES HALLOWEEN PARADE. The Millerstown Lions Club have finalized plans for their annual Halloween Parade for Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m. The parade will form behind Greenwood High School at 6:30 p.m. and will move out promptly at 7 p.m led by the Greenwood High School Wildcat Marching Band. Cash prizes will be awarded to individuals dressed for the holiday season in these categories:funniest, prettiest, scariest and most original. Cash prizes

will also be awarded for floats and marching groups.

The parade will leave Greenwood High School and move down Sunbury Street to the Square, proceed up Market Street to Millerstown Motors, turn right up Greenwood Street to the Millerstown United Methodist Church, turn right onto High Street, and turn back on to Sunbury Street and return to the high school where it will disband. The parade will be canceled if there is rain.

Let’s make this one of the largest parades ever and celebrate the Halloween season.
