Community Calendar

THE FREMONT FIRE DEPARTMENT will be having their annual APPLE HARVEST FESTIVAL on October 8th, 9th & 10th at the Fremont Social Hall 299 Millrace Rd. Mount Pleasant Mills. The event includes Rides, the area’s largest Chinese Auction with over 500 items, Vendors, Apple Dumplings, Cider, Apple Butter, Homemade Ice Cream, Hot Sausages, Pulled Pork, French Fries, Fish Sandwiches, Cake Wheel & More!! Thursday the grounds will open at 4 PM and Heather Olson (Patsy Cline Tribute) will perform at 6 & 7:30. Friday the grounds will open at 4:00 and Swamp Root will perform at 6 & 7:30. At 7:00 the Stauffer’s Butcher Shop Crocks #1 - #3 and 2 Hand-Stitched Quilts will be auctioned off. Smokey the Bear will be there as well as Air Weaver the Balloon Man from 5:30 til 8:30. There will be Hayrides Thursday & Friday evening at 7:00 & 8:00. Saturday will begin with Breakfast from 7AM to 10AM. Lucky Afternoon will perform at 12:30, 2:15 & 3:30. The 3rd Annual Car, Truck & Bike Show will start at 10:00 and the trophies will be presented at 1:30. The event will conclude with the Chinese Auction Drawing at 5 PM. All proceeds benefit the Fremont Fire Department.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17th -Open Kettle Soup, Baked Goods, and Sandwich Sale at the Millerstown Community

Park An open kettle soup, bake sale and Sandwich Sale will be held on Saturday, October 17 beginning at 10 a.m. at Millerstown Community Park just outside of Millerstown on Juniata Parkway.

The sale will be held at the Millerstown Community Building and the proceeds will be used to continue the beautification, upkeep and maintenance of the park. The sale will continue until everything is sold. Chicken Corn, Ham Bean and and Beef Vegetable will be the three kettle soups that will be available by the Quart or bowls with lids. Baked goods of all kinds will also be available for sale. Sandwiches for sale will be sausage with onion and pepper and beef BBQ to take home also; no one will be allowed to eat at the community building; all food is take out to enjoy at home. Donations of baked goods will be greatly appreciated. For additional information or to make contributions, please call Curt Black at 717-589-3598. Pickup of donations can be arranged or baked goods can be dropped off at Curt’s home or the Community building before 10 a.m. on October 17. Community support is needed in order to continue development and care of the beautiful park along the Juniata River; hope to see you there.

A HALLOWEEN HUSTLE TO BENEFIT MILLERSTOWN PARK - A virtual 5K/10K/Family Run to benefit the Millerstown Community Park, it can be a run (or walk) anywhere in the USA at anytime during the month of October 2020—Costume or No Costume. It is being hosted by Lacie and Scott Sanderson. There will NOT be a live event at the Community Park. We recommend all participates follow the government recommendations for social distancing and mask wearing if running in a public place. Registration packets will be mailed to our home?Registration is now LIVE online at https://localraces.com/events/millerstown-pa/ virtual-halloween-hustle Individual Registration is $40, Family Registration is $110 (2 adults, 2 children) +20 for each additional child in the same family. Packets will ship starting the second week of October and will arrive before Halloween! All profits benefit the Millerstown Community Park for the continued beautification and maintenance of the park As you know 2020 has been a difficult time for many. The challenges created by COVID-19 have left many fundraising events canceled.

ANNUAL COLLECTIBLE BIRTHDAY CALENDAR PROJECT UNDERWAY - Due to the COVID19-VIRUS, three Millerstown Community Success, Inc. projects have been canceled, both of the popular craft shows in March and November, and the outdoor show at the park in August. The funds that we raise always go back into the community to continue beautification and maintenance of Millerstown, but this year has not been

a profitable year because of the virus shutdown. The only other project that the organization does is a really neat collectible birthday calendar each year, and we are asking people to support it to put together another great calendar for 2021. The calendar always has a picture of a historical building in the Millerstown area in black and white; this year is a picture of the stone building of the United Methodist Church in Millerstown Borough. Tom Ulsh takes the photographs each year of the building on the calendar.

The 12 month tear-offs are below the picture. Calendars are $5 and birthdays and anniversaries are $1 for each name. You do not give the years, just the dates for each month. Arrangements can be made to pick up the calendars at the Black home, or they can be mailed to you at an additional cost. The calendars will be available before Christmas, and they can also make great Christmas gifts CALL FOR ENTRIES: PCCA’S ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION — Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) is accepting entries for its Annual Juried Exhibition, which will be on display at the Veterans Memorial Building, 25 W. Main Street, New Bloomfield, from November 13 to January 22, 2021. Entries are due on Monday, October 12.

The exhibition will also be featured online via the PCCA website, and much of the original art will be available for purchase.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be no opening reception for this year’s exhibition.

All original artwork is eligible for entry in the categories: Painting; Water Media; Photography and Digital; 3-Dimensional art (sculpture, pottery, jewelry, fiber, etc.); and Other Media (pastel, mixed media, drawing, collage, printmaking and encaustic).

Work previously shown in PCCA exhibits will not be accepted, and artwork must have been completed within the last three years.

This year’s juror is Danny Bracken, Exhibitions Manager at the Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh—a contemporary art museum and experimental lab featuring site-specific installations created by artists in residence from around the world. He organizes the museum’s residencies, manages its installation staff, and oversees the maintenance of the permanent collection. Also a practicing artist and musician, Danny’s work has been included in numerous group and solo exhibitions at museums, galleries, and festivals in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

THE PERRY HISTORIANS - APPLE BUTTER BOIL - Even though many of the typical fall fairs and festivals have already been cancelled due to Coronavirus, The Perry Historians IS STILL PLANNING to make our old-fashioned, all natural APPLE BUTTER this fall.

We WILL be boiling the second AND third weeks in October at the LenigFocht Library and we WILL have apple butter and freshpressed (no preservatives) cider for sale October 8th, 9th and 10th and again on

October 13th-17th. Apple Butter is sold by the quart or pint and cider in half and gallon sizes.

Home made Chicken Corn Soup will be available by the quart to-go both weeks on Fridays and Saturdays and we’ll have home made baked goods on the 10th and 17th as well. Let us open the Word and live it out in our daily lives in obedience to the Lord, in the end it will be best for us all. Let us also pray agains the spirit of darkness and those who have been brought into our country and those from within our country to riot. They have been taught many things, such as marxism, communism, there are insurrectionists, Antifa groups and others who have come to destroy our constitution and want to have a new world order ( a new normal). These groups don’t let a crisis go to waste, and we now see a full blown war from within.

These groups are committing crimes and will be brought to justice. Let us wake up and learn from history, not to tear down, but Let

us be Lights in the world. Let our government be of the people, by the people, and for the people. Let us continue to pray, knowing that obedience to the Lord will produce wisdom and that peace we all need. For without the Lord’s wisdom we will fall for anything.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17th -Open Kettle Soup, Baked Goods, and Sandwich Sale at the Millerstown Community Park An open kettle soup, bake sale and Sandwich Sale will be held on Saturday, October 17 beginning at 10 a.m. at Millerstown Community Park just outside of Millerstown on Juniata Parkway. The sale will be held at the Millerstown Community Building and the proceeds will be used to continue the beautification, upkeep and maintenance of the park. The sale will continue until everything is sold. Chicken Corn, Ham Bean and and Beef Vegetable will be the three kettle soups that will be available by the Quart or bowls with lids.

Baked goods of all kinds will also be available for sale. Sandwiches for sale will be sausage with onion and pepper and beef BBQ to take home also; no one will be allowed to eat at the community building; all food is take out to enjoy at home.

Donations of baked goods will be greatly appreciated. For additional information or to make contributions, please call Curt Black at 717-589-3598. Pickup of donations can be arranged or baked goods can be dropped off at Curt’s home or the Com-

munity building before 10 a.m. on October 17. Community support is needed in order to continue development and care of the beautiful park along the Juniata River; hope to see you there.

It is hard to believe that you have been in heaven for 30 Years!! We were so proud of you when you graduated High School in 1990. We had such a huge celebration not realizing that just 2 months later you would be celebrating your birthday in heaven.

I am so thankful that God gave you to me for 18 Years. We struggled at times but you put up with me and helped me to grow up. I love you so much my Christopher. I’m so thankful for our discussions as you were striving to figure out life and because of them I know that you’re in heaven with Jesus.

And just like you, you asked Jesus to let you tell me in my dream that you’re all right, that heaven is cool and you have all your answers and you left me saying, “Please don’t cry Mom, Jeus loves me just the way I am, long hair and all it doesn’t matter.” and with that you turned and Jesus put his arm around you and you went off to get more of your answers.
