ANNUAL FALL BAZAAR RETURNS TO MILLERSTOWN The members of the Millerstown United Methodist Church have finalized plans for their popular annual Holiday Bazaar and Flea Market to be held on Saturday, September 16 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church on the corner of High and Greenwood Streets in Millerstown Borough. Signs will be out to give directions to the church. The social hall of the church will be turned into a shopper’s paradise of crafted items for holiday decorating and gift giving. The event is noted for its creative displays and theme areas to sell a variety of Christmas, fall, autumn, and gift items, most of them made by members of the church family. In addition to the crafted items, there will be tables loaded with all types of baked goods, jellies, plants, fall mums, canned items, snacks, stocking stuffers, and candy. The air will be filled with the aroma of freshly baked apple dumplings and shoppers will be able to dine in the popular “Auntie Em’s Café.” Homemade soups, sandwiches, and beverages will be available throughout the day. Inside in the hallway of the social hall, shoppers will find the popular flea market white elephant tables laden with items donated from members of the congregation. You never know what you will find on our white elephant tables, so this part of the event is sure to delight the yard sale, flea market crowd who are constantly looking for those great bargains, maybe even an old antique! WANTED VOLUNTEERS: With October around the corner, it’s never too early to start thinking about fall festivals, especially those featuring home-made apple butter. The Perry Historians will once again be boiling down cider and apples for their home-made apple butter sales at Blain Heritage Days (10/13-15), and Little Buffalo State Park (10/21-22). The Perry Historians encourages folks to not only stop by for a jar, but lend a hand in stirring the bubbling copper kettles. Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) will host a fall bus trip to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 14. Guests can explore the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival (featuring live music performances and art/craft vendors), Mauch Chunk Opera House, Mauch Chunk Museum, Asa Packer Mansion Museum and the Lehigh Scenic Gorge Railway. PCCA’s Premiere #1 Limousine luxury minibus will depart the Newport Park & Ride on Route 22-322 at 7 a.m. The bus will pick up additional guests at the Karns Quality Food Ltd., 6011 Allentown Boulevard, Harrisburg, at 7:30 a.m. Please bring your own coffee or other morning beverage for the ride. PCCA will supply light morning snacks and bottled water. Riders should expect to return to Karns at 4:30 p.m. and Newport Park & Ride by 5 p.m.

The cost of the trip is $65 per person, which includes transportation, driver gratuity, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and wine. Lunch and additional activities are at guest’s expense. Please make reservations by October 1; seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Editor’s Note:

Last month when I wrote my little article many people commented. One person suggested that I should run comics instead so I found this, it’s a good idea. Many people mentioned that they liked what I wrote and I struggle to write and share my thoughts but I’m working on it.

September is the month of new beginnings for many people as the students go back to school and have a fresh start to a better year. After the eclipse last week it seems to me that a reset button was started and we have fresh energy to creat new ideas and a time of reflection to improve our lives.

With all the storms that have happened this past summer it makes it extra special when the sun comes out and dries everything off and one feels the refreshing heat of the sun, not only to our bodies but to our souls. I find it amazing how God uses the things of nature to help us realize that is how life is. There are storms and hard times in our journey but He is always there to give us encouragement to carry on. It might be in something we read, a kindness of a stranger, or a word spoken or a memory replayed.

Hard times help us to enjoy the everyday blessings of today. May you be encouraged today with this verse: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”

The Perry Historians will once again be boiling down cider and apples for their home-made apple butter sales at Blain Heritage Days (10/13-15), and Little Buffalo State Park (10/21-22). The Perry Historians encourages folks to not only stop by for a jar, but lend a hand in stirring the bubbling copper kettles. Volunteers are also needed to prep apples at Airy View School House, home of the non-profits Harry Lenig Library, which hosts genealogical researches. ANNUAL FALL BAZAAR RETURNS TO MILLERSTOWN The members of the Millerstown United Methodist Church have finalized plans for their popular annual Holiday Bazaar and Flea Market to be held on Saturday, September 16 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church on the corner

of High and Greenwood Streets in Millerstown Borough. Signs will be out to give directions to the church. The social hall of the church will be turned into a shopper’s paradise of crafted items for holiday decorating and gift giving. The event is noted for its creative displays and theme areas to sell a variety of Christmas, fall, autumn, and gift items, most of them made by members of the church family. In addition to the crafted items, there will be tables loaded with all types of baked goods, jellies, plants, fall mums, canned items, snacks, stocking stuffers, and candy.
