cricket? Send Sheffield, Derek Jeter (because you have to send Derek Jeter, if only to make nice with the international press) and all manner of exbaseball players to play the game. I think Curt Schilling would make an excellent bowler (pitcher, in baseball vernacular) along with John Smoltz. I bet Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams would sign on. Ichiro would be a no-brainer, and for laughs we can ask Lou Piniella to coach the team. Surely he will appreciate the pace of each 30-hour game. Look ... President John F. Kennedy issued the challenge that we put a man on the moon, not because it was easy but because it was hard, and that was in the 1960s. President George W. Bush challenged us to go to Mars, and as far as he's concerned, Matt Damon fulfilled his mission. But I'm talking cricket, America. This is something we can actually do, that will never be considered a hoax or ever require the approval of Ben Affleck. Cricket, America. It's time.

Cricket is a sport that Americans, in general, do not ever play. But here's what we do know: We know that the game exists. We know that India, Britain and Australia play the game often. We know that it requires hitting a ball with a stick, and history has shown that we're very good at hitting things. It's not like it's bobsledding, a sport we perennially suck at. This is something we can actually do. It is for just those reasons that I submit the challenge. I looked into the rules of how the game is played, and I stand here before you none the wiser. I haven't a clue as to the subtle nuances of the game. I know that you can hit the baseballsized ball with a flattened side of a willow wood bat out of the park and it's worth 6 runs. A ground rule double is apparently worth 4 runs. There are 10 outs per inning, there

There's one rule that states if a red ball is used, no team can wear colorful uniforms. They have to wear white or offwhite uniforms. I don't see this as an obstacle. I'm sure that UnderArmour can come up with something that fits the bill. Naturally, there will be naysayers. Americans barely support outdoor or, for that matter, indoor lacrosse. How can we just pick up another sport when the WNBA still needs our support? The answer is easy, my friends: Gary Sheffield. Admittedly, I have not run this idea past Mr. Sheffield. GREENFIELD COUNTRY STORE MEAT AND CHEESE DELI SPECIALSS M

Last Tuesday explosions rang out in Brussels, Belgium, leaving over 30 dead and 300 wounded. Two siblings flying from New York, a Peruvian chef and a Belgian law student, were among the dead, with another young American newlywed couple missing, leaving their family fearing the worst. Authorities said the victims of last Tuesday's attacks at the Brussels airport and a subway span 40 nationalities. France, still reeling from attacks in November of last year leaving over 130 dead, confirmed that one of its citizens was killed and at least 12 were wounded. China also said a citizen had died. To date the stories of many of the victims continue to emerge as loved ones struggle to know more and ask the question why? As I looked through the pages of the innocent faces of the dead, wounded and missing, I found myself asking that very question: Why? Then again on Friday afternoon, three days after the bloody attacks, shots rang out again in Brussels, the focus point in Europe's fight against terrorism. The operation ended with the arrest of one person linked to Tuesday's terrorist attacks. Originally it was noted there were six attackers in Tuesday's bombings. One of the suicide bombers was a Moroccanborn Belgian, also suspect-

ed as a bomb maker in the November 13 attacks in Paris. The other two suspects were Belgian-born brothers known as common criminals who also blew themselves up. An unidentified fourth person may have been the person captured in Friday's raids. But at this time it's unclear; there could be two more at large. Evidence mounted early on that the same Islamic State cell carried out the attacks in both Paris and Brussels. Investigators also know of additional plots in Europe, in various stages of planning, linked to the same networks behind November's Paris attacks and the latest ones in Brussels, according to U.S. counterterrorism officials. Those terrorists are tied to ISIS, the Islamic extremist group that's taken over swaths of Syria and Iraq while also lashing out elsewhere around the world. Secretary of State John Kerry vowed that his government will "provide any assistance necessary" to Belgium in the investigation and their shared fight against terrorism. "We will not be intimidated, we will not be deterred, and we will come back with greater resolve, with greater strength," Kerry said. "And we will not rest until we have eliminated your nihilistic beliefs and cowardice from the face of this earth." I'm glad Kerry says and thinks that. However, previ-

ous actions of this administration have not pointed that way. On more than one occasion Obama has made it clear we have no strategy to deal with ISIS. And to add insult to injury to the rest of the world, our elusive leader, Barack H. Obama, while Brussels was under siege with Americans dead and wounded, he was doing the wave in his sunglasses, chewing gum and living it up at a ballgame with Cuban Dictator Raúl Castro. I guess in his mind there was nothing else going on in the world that day! What a disgrace! But what would you expect from him? After Paris was attacked last November world leaders came together in solidarity to show support minus Obama. A closing note: The last seven years there have been 314 brave men and women in blue that lost their lives,we have lost one Supreme Court Justice and one former First Lady. Obama hasn't attended one of those funerals. But he had time for a trip to Cuba.

Dr. Terwilliger will be fielding questions and reassuring the public that there is no need for alarm. Dr. Terwilliger received international acclaim with his 1991 book, Bigfeet Are People Too, in which he presented evidence that the large, hair covered primates are actually a peace-loving tribe of extraterrestrials. EAGLE LIFE

Ministries by: Cliff Sanders

If Christ Be Not Risen The crux of Christianity is based on not only the crucifixion of Christ, but also the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day. Without the resurrection Christianity would have been a flat and false religion. What changed the disciples of Jesus from fearful followers cowering behind locked door into fearless, radical witnesses of Christ? They saw the crucified, risen Savior with their own eyes. They touched Him, they ate with Him, and they heard Him. They saw Him ascend into heaven. One of the greetings of the early believers when they met together was, “Christ is risen!” The response was, “He is risen indeed!” Can you imagine what life would be like if Christ had not risen from the dead? The apostle Paul tells us in the holy scriptures. “And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty . . . And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have

perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” (Luke 24:1-25, 36-48) Consider these ramifications if Christ has not risen from the dead. CHRIST WOULD BE A DECEIVER. On many occasions Christ foretold of His death and resurrection. “’Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up’ . . . But He was speaking of the temple of His body.” (John 2:18-22) Jesus promised that the disciples' sorrow would be turned into joy when they saw Him again. (John 16:16-22) Jesus openly and clearly prophesied that He would be killed and after three days, rise again. (Mark 8:31-32; 9:30-32; 10:33-34) On the first Easter morning, the women came to the empty tomb and were perplexed that Jesus’ body was not there and two angels appeared to them and reminded

them what Jesus had said. (Luke 24:1-8) Even more amazing is that Mary Magdalene saw the risen Lord. (John 20:1118) Jesus also appeared to the rest of the disciples. (John 20:19-20) Later Jesus appeared to over 500 people at one time. Jesus was no deceiver, but is who He claimed to be – the Son of the Living God. THE SCRIPTURES WOULD NOT BE TRUE. It was prophesied that Christ would rise from the dead. (Psalm 16:9-10) On the road to Emmaus the risen Jesus met two of His disciples. “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded to them in all the scriptures the t h i ngs c onc e r ni ng Himself.” (Luke 24:1327, 44-49) THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL WOULD BE EMPTY AND POWERLESS. (I Corinthians 15:14) The prophets and apostles would be false witnesses. (I Corinthians 15:15) YO U R FA I T H WOULD BE EMPTY. (I Corinthians 15:10, 17) “And, if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” (I Corinthians 15:16-17)

YOU WOULD STILL BE IN YOUR SINS. “And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.” (I Corinthians 15:17) ALL THOSE WHO HAVE DIED WITH FAITH IN CHRIST WOULD HAVE PERISHED. (I Corinthians 15:18) There would be no hope of eternal life. WE WOULD BE OF ALL MEN MOST MISERABLE. (I Corinthians 15:19) There would be no hope. When one died, that’s it. But Jesus gave the greatest of all hope. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whosoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:2526) The good news is that Christ is risen! And because He lives, you can live also. (John 14:19) Belief in the resurrection is pivotal to salvation. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Shalom, Cliff Sanders Eagle Life Ministries eagleslife8@gmail.com

To celebrate spring why not try something different? For years I've used pure essential oils — for fragrance, added to laundry, to kill germs and to freshen, as well as holistically. You can get oils at almost any health food shop, and they'll help you get started. But remember the key words are 100% pure essential oil. One of my favorite ways to use oils is floral and herbal waters. They have been cherished throughout history as much for their soothing effect as for the sweet aromatic cloud they produce. Some of my favorite recipes are below. They're easy to make and reasonable, so start your spring with a spritz of spring.

Fresh From The Garden

There are two ways to make scented waters; both are simple. One is to add a few drops of an essential oil to water — or to a water-and-vodka mixture if you prefer longer-lasting and more potent results. The other method is to use pieces of the actual plant or flowers (they should be pesticide-free), either steeping them in vodka — for a week — or pouring boiling water over them to make an infusion. Just make sure that the water is free of chlorine and the vodka is as close to 90 proof as possible. Bottle the flower waters and store in the refrigerator. Though a mister makes for easy application, a cotton ball works just as well.

Rose Petal & Jasmine Water

For fresh rose petals this time of year visit any florist shop. 1½ cups water (chlorine-free) 1/8 cup vodka 3 T. dried or 1 large handful fresh rose petals (use highly fragrant varieties such as the rugosas)

1 T. fresh rose petals 4 drops essential oil of rose 2 drops essential oil of jasmine

1 tsp. lavender oil

Stir ingredients together and store in a dark place for a week. Stir and use 1/2 cup in a warm or hot bath. Relax and restore yourself!

Lavender Air Freshener

After you've tried this home made air freshener, you'll never use anything else! 2 cups distilled water 4 oz. vodka

40 drops lavender oil

Pour vodka in a spray bottle. Add lavender oil and shake. Add water. Shake again. Spray and enjoy!

by Samantha Weaver • It was Pulitzer Prizewinning poet and biographer Carl Sandburg who made the following sage observation: "Slang is a language that rolls up its sleeves, spits on its hands, and goes to work." • Boon or bane? While DDT was first synthesized in 1874, it wasn't until 1939 that Swiss chemist Paul Hermann Muller discovered its insecticidal properties. DDT was so effective in curbing the spread of

insect-borne diseases such as malaria and yellow fever that in 1948, Muller was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. However, with the 1962 publication of Rachel Carson's book "Silent Spring," the devastating environmental effects of widespread DDT use led to an eventual ban in the United States. • You might be surprised to learn that, aside from his inaugural ad-

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) With change dominant this week, don’t be surprised to find new facts emerging that could put another slant on a situation and offer you another choice. Think it through before you decide. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) There could be some lingering problems from a previous matter that involved a decision you felt you had to make. Resolve the situation with your strong Taurean no-nonsense approach. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) The Gemini’s carefully made plans could be undone by someone’s unexpected decision. Getting the full story behind that surprise move can help you decide how to deal with the matter. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Recently uncovered information might put a new light on a situation you thought had been resolved. Keep an open mind about possible changes that you might have to consider. LEO (July 23 to August 22) With a potential revision of an old agreement, you can’t beat the Big Cat for knowing how to sharpen a “clause” to the best advantage. Someone close could have the news you’ve been waiting for. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Certain issues in the workplace could put you in the middle of a dispute you’d rather not deal with. Express your honest feelings before the pressure to take sides builds up. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) You might feel uneasy disagreeing with someone you’ve

During the Civil War, the company supplied candles and soap to the Union Army, in the process introducing its products to soldiers from

been close to. But your relationship should be able to withstand and even thrive when confronted with your true feelings. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A romantic situation seems to be creating more confusion than you can handle. If so, own up to your feelings. The sooner you do, the better your chances are for working things out. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) With change directing the Archer’s aim, consider a second look at your plans and see where they might benefit from a revision. A workplace matter is close to a resolution. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) New contacts help you learn some important information about upcoming developments. The week calls for the Sea Goat to be more flexible than usual in a number of matters. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) With both change and uncertainty in your aspect, you might feel less confident in a previous decision. That’s OK. Check it out and see where it could be modified, if necessary. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Old relationships that seemed to be sinking are buoyant again, and new relationships are benefiting from Cupid’s loving care. This could be a good time to make a major move. BORN THIS WEEK: While you prefer to tread your own path, you’ll go out of your way to help someone in need. © 2016 King Features Synd., Inc.
