saLem WILDCATS Coach Andy Fehrenbacher thinks his wildcats can break through this year in the Salem Invitational Tournament. The 'Cats are 5-9 at the time of this writing and are hoping to use their own tournament to get ready to make their run this year and make 2017 one to remember. Coach Fehrenbacher has a good size ball club with 6'4" Cole

Steward, 6'3" Brenden Boles, 6'4" Damond Crosby, 6'3" Kaden Wayer, and 6'2" Shaun reid. Add in 5'10" Dawson Linder, and these

guys make the 'Cats go. Coach Fehrenbacher is in his second year running the program and thinks his 'Cats

are getting better all the time. The hard work might just all come together at the same time, and the 'Cats could win the trophy in their own tournament this season. The Wildcats would like nothing better than to finish the season on a streak to carry them into the play-offs and out of the Apollo Conference this year. Team profile by Mike Ellis

The phoenix are unbeaten with a 9-0 record at the time of this writing. Coach James Valle has his team playing a big time schedule with games in several different states like Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and ohio. Last year the SIT

was probably more than his players could handle, but returning for another shot at the title with several of his top players back is exciting for the fans of the Salem Holiday Tournament.

5'8" Tom Mitrovich, 6'2" Deniz Sevim, 6'2" Arnaud Dushime, and 6'0" Jacob Bugajny. Coach Valle will have his Phoenix ready for tip-off and to make a better showing than last season. CenTraLIa ORPHANS The orphans of Coach Lee Bennett provided him with his 500th coaching victory with their win over Champaign Central in the 74th Centralia Holiday Tournament. The orphans stand at 11-4 at the time of this writing. Coach Bennett's squad is still being led by the trio of 6'4" Dawson Berry, 6'2" Javon Williams and 5'11" Jordan Maines; these three all score

in double figures. And now 5'7" freshman Jamie Long, and 5'7" Brian Meskil, a sophomore, along with 5'10" Jachai Webster are all starting to score, which makes the

orphans that much tougher to defend against. Coach Bennett will also use a pair of juniors in 5'6" Matt Patrick and 5'10" Sirlando Calcutt and use sophomores Akeel

Johnson and reis Madrey. The orphans are building momentum for the run to the finish line. They will start that drive by using the SIT as their starting point and try to get the number one seed in their regional on their way to a run to state and a big trophy in Peoria. Team profile by Mike Ellis

eDWarDsVILLe TIGERS The Edwardsville Tigers are on quite a roll. They are 13-1 coming off winning the Collinsville Holiday Tournament and ranked close to the top of Illinois' 4A poll. Coach Waldo has back all five starters from last season in 6'7" Caleb Strohmeier, 6'6" A.J. Epenesa, 6'5" Mark Smith, 6'4" oliver Stephen and 5'10" Jack Marinko. They are whipping up on other teams

who dare to get in their way, so at the Salem Invitational Tournament they had better be ready for the Tigers because they are coming to take the title home with them. Coach Waldo also has a pretty good

bench to fall back on in 6'4" Zach Doormink, 6'4" Trent Moore, 6'2" r.J Wilson, 6'2" Matt Stopka, 6'1" Jaylon Tuggle and 6'2" Nathan Kolesa. Coach has both size and experience coming off his bench and still has more left

in 6'2" Lavontas Hairston, 6'0" Sammy Green and 5'10" Malik robinson. This should give the Tigers enough to control the Tournament and wear teams down. The Tigers will look to post their 15th title game in the last seventeen years while Centralia will once again try to stand in their way. Team profile by Mike Ellis

eFFInGHam FLAMING HEARTS Coach ron reed will be bringing his Flaming Hearts to Salem and will look to take home some hardware, showing everyone that this is their year. Coach reed has his Hearts off to a fine start at 12-2 at the time of this writing. The Hearts have nice size in 6'7" Cole Marxman, 6'6" Jacob Donaldson, 6'4" Landon Wolfe, 6'2" Blake Lohman, and 6'2" Logan Smith which will let the

Hearts bang the boards alongside any team playing in the Salem Tourney. Coach reed will also expect the rest of his Hearts to defend the entire court, includ-

and 6'0" Mason Hull along with 5'9" Hunter petersen. That gives Coach reed the entire roster to attack his foes at Salem The Flaming Hearts are fighting to win the Apollo this season and would love to win the Salem Invitational as well which would earn them a high seed at playoff time in the 3A post season. maTToon GREEN WAVE The Green wave of Mattoon and Coach Josh Forsythe are looking to make a wave in the Salem Invitational Tournament and hope to get their season on the right track to finish on a positive note going into post season. The wave has a 5-10 record so far and will rely on the following group of players to turn the corner: 6'5" Justus Donaldson, 6'5" DeAndre Thomas,

W W

6'5" Travis Bailey, 6'4" Drake Jeffries and 6'3" Dalton Stephens. This group of big men will help Coach Forsythe control the boards on

Noe, 6'1" Jake Ghere, 5'10" Jacob Spitz and 5'11" Nick owens. Coach Forsythe has his Green wave sitting almost the same as last year but thinks his wave could turn the corner during the Salem Tourney and surprise some teams. If that happens, the Wave could make 2017 a fine year for themselves and the SIT. Team profile by Mike Ellis

mT. Vernon RAMS Coach Doug Creel has one of the youngest teams Mt. Vernon has ever had, with only one senior with any experience, 6'2" Quinton Kujawa. The rams will have to learn on the run, and very quickly. Coach Creel knows he has some very good young men with talent like 6'2" Jake Martin, 6'2" Simon Wilson, 6'1" Amir Spann and 6'6" Weston

Brockhouse, along with some smaller guards in 5'8" Zach Williams, 5'6" Jackson Creel, 6'0" o'Shea Hardin, and 5'9" Blake Dees. Coach Creel knows this is a group to be patient

TrIaD KNIGHTS The Knights of Triad are having a fine season and stand at 12-3 going into the Salem Invitational Tournament. Coach Josh Hunt has an experienced team this season with seniors like 6'3" Collin Brunton, 6'5" Kyle rood, 6'2" Jake o'Dell, 6'1" Cole Wendler, a trio of 5'10" guards in Jeron Pino, Noah Moss, Brendan Grigg, and 5'7" Garrett Milligan.

These seniors give Coach Hunt the leadership on the floor he needs this time of year as everyone starts to look towards the post season. Also the Knights

will use 6'5" ryan Holcomb, 6'3" Kyle Cox, 6'2" Beau Barbour, 6'1" Jaden Deatherage, 6'1" Cody Qualls, and 5'8" Trevor Nott — all juniors. This will allow

Coach Hunt to have plenty of fresh legs on the court to exploit his team's opposition and a complete roster to use down the line to prepare for the playoffs and maybe a run for peoria. The Knights would love to surprise someone with an upset in this year's Salem Invitational Tournament. Team profile by Mike Ellis
