second half throwing up bricks, letting North Carolina go on runs, getting anywhere near the lead with four m i n u t e s t o p l a y. Whatever they needed to do (outside the obvious, making their shots) — be it call more timeouts, fewer timeouts, purchase ACME products and build a tremendous wall around their basket -- it should have been done. It should have been done because everyone in the stadium or watching on TV saw that North Carolina finished like a steam train — a really fast and powerful steam train — the kind that gets fouled in the paint and wins championships. They kept flogging the whole "#redemption" angle of the game ... that the boys were struggling from the aftereffects of horrendous PTSD for having been in the finals last year, too. What it showed was a remarkable consistency and tenacity. North Carolina is in a different class. It doesn't make a difference how many they invite to the dance ... the Southern belle from Chapel Hill left with the crown yet again.

So North Carolina has its sixth championship, and coach Roy Williams has his third after a notso-thrilling final that capped off a very thrilling tournament in 2017. The nearly flawless Gonzaga Bulldogs, the great spirit of Spokane, finally went from bracket buster to Butler-style heartbreaker, while North Carolina cemented the notion that you have to take the belt from a champion. IDNR ANNOUNCES 2017 WINGSHOOTING CLINIC SCHEDULE The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), in cooperation with a number of partners and co-sponsors, will conduct wingshooting clinics at sites throughout Illinois this spring through mid-November. Wingshooting clinics are intended to provide instruction and improve the shooting skills of beginners and experienced hunters. Most clinics are conducted on weekends at IDNR sites, cooperating gun clubs and shooting ranges, hunting preserves, and farms. Yo u t h / Wo m e n ’s Wingshooting Clinics are designed to provide instruction on safely shooting a shotgun at a moving target with reasonable reliability. Girls and boys ages 10-15, young adults ages 16-18, and women of all ages are eligible to participate. Each clinic starts with a morning shotgun safety presentation, followed by a short small-group handson shotgun orientation session with each group’s
wingshooting instructor. After a lunch break, students spend the afternoon in the field shooting flying clay targets on presentations designed for beginning and novice shooters. Not only do the students learn to safely handle and shoot a shotgun, but they learn that being skilled at shooting clay targets is a lot of fun. Hunter wingshooting clinics are hands-on, and include extensive live fire at a variety of clay target presentations on sporting clays courses specifically designed for hunters. Hunter wingshooting clinics consist of two wingshooting sessions each day. A short briefing about shotgun safety and handling and on-range safety protocols occurs during the first 15 minutes of each four-hour shooting session. The clinics are designed primarily to improve the wingshooting skills of hunters, but are not limited to only hunters. The clinics are designed for shotgun shooters with reasonable
experience. Young shooters ages 12 to 15 must be in at least the "Intermediate" skill level category to enroll in the hunter clinics. Young shooters 12 to 15 must also be accompanied by and shooting with an adult who is participating in the hunter clinic. Shotgun shooters 16 and older with beginning to advanced wingshooting skills who want to improve their shotgun shooting skills are encouraged to attend. Clinics are taught by instructors certified by the IDNR. Many clinic instructors also have a National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) instructor certification. The participant-to-instructor ratio is usually four-to-one. Participants are typically grouped with others of similar shooting ability. The 2017 clinic schedule includes several special events. The IDNR Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program offers shotgun shooting classes as part of an exten-

sive outdoor skills program. The BOW classes taught by IDNR wingshooting instructors are among the most popular classes with participants. During the National Hunting and Fishing Day activities at Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area in September, the opportunity to shoot clay targets is available under the supervision of IDNR Hunter Safety Instructors. The Healing Outside of a Ho s p i t a l ( H O OA H ) Program provides sporting clays shooting opportunities under the supervision of IDNR wingshooting instructors to active duty military personnel recovering from injuries, and to veterans with disabilities. ANNUAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION WALK BY DOUG GUNTER
Approximately 150 people braved the chilly, rainy weather to take part in the annual Child Abuse Prevention Walk around the Jefferson County Courthouse on Friday, April 21. Sheriff Travis Allen led the walk around the block outside the Courthouse. 331 confirmed cases of child abuse were reported in 2016, in Jefferson County alone. Sheriff Allen told The Shopper's Weekly that five cases were confirmed just last week and he was afraid the total will exceed last years total in 2017. Although the weather wasn't favorable, the turnout for the walk was better than expected.

speakOUT letters to the editor
Dear Editor,
I challenge all those Trump voters who criticized President Obama for playing golf (primarily at U.S. military bases) to read the following article by Niamh McIntyre from the Independent Daily Edition, April 6, 2017. "Donald Trump's travel expenses in 10 weeks cost U.S. taxpayers as much as Barack Obama spent in two years." Donald Trump's trips to his luxury Florida resort have already cost the U.S. taxpayer at least $24 million, roughly as much as Barack Obama spent on travel in the first two years of his presidency. Mr. Trump has spent seven weekends at Mar-aLago since taking office ten weeks ago. It is estimated that each of these trips costs at least $3 million, covering the President's extensive security detail. In total, Mr. Obama's travel bill over the eight years of his presidency came to $97 million — an average of $12.1 million a
year. President Trump almost matched this figure in his first month, spending $10 million on three golfing holidays. The cost of travel and security for the entire Trump family is likely to be much higher, as the First Lady, Melania, and Mr. Trump's youngest son, Barron, are remaining in New York until at least September. The New York Police Department has confirmed that it costs between $127,000 and $146,000 a day to protect the First Lady and her son while they reside in Trump Tower. After he hosts Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago this weekend, Mr. Trump will have averaged $2.4 million a week on his Florida trips. If he keeps going at this pace, he will have outspent Mr. Obama's $97 million figure in just 10 months. Critics have pointed out that if the President cut back on these visits, he
could fund the social and arts programs that he is planning to slash. Before his inauguration, Mr. Trump regularly criticized Mr. Obama for playing golf while holding office. [In May 2016 President Trump stated,] "I don't think I'd ever see anything. I just wanna stay in the White House and work my ass off, make great deals, right? Who's gonna leave? I mean, who's gonna leave?" Arthur Junkins Mt. Vernon, IL

Next week should be a busy week in Washington, D.C. On the president's agenda: Tax reform and another push for healthcare. First on the to-do list: Tax Reform. As Trump puts it, with "massive tax cuts." Don't be surprised if the package doesn't include simplifying the system which has become extremely complicated. Overhauling the U.S. tax code was on the Top 10 List as a campaign pledge from Donald Trump. The principles and priorities will be announced on Wednesday, but keep in mind, under U.S. law, only Congress can make significant tax law changes, though the president often drives the tax agenda by offering legislation. To confirm the above, one administration official has said, 'We are moving forward on comprehensive tax reform that cuts tax rates for individuals, simplifies our overly complicated system, and creates jobs by making American business competitive." As I've stated more than once, I believe in an uncomplicated tax system, meaning individuals pay a flat tax. In other words, you take your income times a certain percent, and that's what you pay. On a corporate level, take the gross, minus expenses, equals net, and your tax rate is a percent of that. A flat tax for all. You pay nothing in, you get nothing back. In the current system, there are those that pay nothing in and get federal income taxes back. What? Trump
is right, our tax system is BROKEN! On to healthcare reform, another issue on Trump's agenda this week. The President has recently said, "I want to finish healthcare before starting on tax reform." This statement came after the GOP failed efforts last month to repeal and replace Obamacare. Ultimately, I believe Trump's plan is to tie tax reform and healthcare together, monetarily, that is: Cut costs on healthcare and subsidize tax dollars. In other words, all the healthcare savings goes into the tax cut. On to France's Presidential elections. It's looking good for far right winger Marine Le Pen and another top candidate, Emmanuel Macron. This highly contested race started with eleven candidates, was narrowed down to four, and after yet another terrorist attack last week, it's looking better for Ms. Le Pen, because along the campaign trail she promised to tighten the border. The French will go to the polls again on May 7, but also went to the polls last Sunday, April 23. Yes, candidates are pitted against each other twice with a second run off. Could be Americans could learn something by voting on Sunday when most could find time to vote. Marine Le Pen, a former lawyer, is taking the far right group in a decidedly different direction than her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen. So time will tell! Is this election important? In the world we live
in, every election is important and to be watched. The world today is a hotbox, with Syria, North Korea, and Iran, as well as Russia, and NO, Trump didn't create this. Closing on the French elections and Russia, Chuck Todd, on Meet the Press Sunday morning, insinuated Russia was involved in the current French election. Really, Chuck. It's a poor attempt at trying to put Russian involvement back in the news. And last but not least, the voice of reason has been silenced, that being Bill O'Reilly of Fox News. Who will suffer the most? I'd say Fox, especially as they are trending toward the liberal side, with people like Chris Wallace. Mr. O'Reilly will receive a maximum of one year's salary following his firing! And after just signing a new one-year contract reportedly worth $25 million a year, I think he'll be okay. His removal came after a bombshell New York Times was released. Bill O'Reilly released a statement denying the claims of sexual harassment, calling them completely unfounded. Tucker Carlson will now fill O'Reilly's 8:00 p.m. time slot. Until next week. To comment on this or any column in The Shopper’s Weekly, please mail to: Editor, P.O. By Larry Cox Lionel Train Sets Q: I have two train sets in their original boxes from the 1950s. One is a Lionel Berkshire 2-8-4 die-cast steam locomotive and diecast tender, number 8-8215; the other is a Lionel train nickel-plated extended caboose, number 6-6905. Can you recommend a good reference book for these items? — Victoria, Rio Rancho, New Mexico A: There are several excellent references, but my personal favorite is "The Standard Catalogue of Lionel Trains 1945-1969," by David Doyle and published by Krause Books. This excellent guide is the
most complete book of its kind and features more than 1,100 photos, detailed descriptions and accurate current-market values. This helpful reference should keep you on track. *** Q : I foun d a St . Christopher medal in a Goodwill store that is unusual in that it has an image of Mary embossed on its back. It is made from a gray metal, perhaps pewter. Does this feature make this medal unique? — Cheryll, Saratoga, Fla. A: St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers. Millions of his medals have been distributed throughout the years. Although
your medal has a less common design, it still has very little value to collectors unless it is made of silver, gold or a precious metal. I suspect your medal is, indeed, made of pewter. *** Q: When I was in London during the 1960s, I purchased a biography of Beardsley, the illustrator, by Stanley Weintraub. It is a first edition in near mint condition. I can't remember how much I paid for it, but am curious to know if it has increased much in value. — Bill, San Angelo, Texas A: Your biography was published by W.H. Allen in 1967. I contacted several rare-book dealers, and they
seem to agree that it is probably worth about $100. *** Q: I have a collection of World War II gasoline ration stamps issued two days before the end of the war. I would like to sell them. — Lucien, Warren, Rhode Island A: Even though gasoline and sugar ration stamps are less common than many of the others issued, there are still fairly plentiful. I have seen them sell at shows for a couple of dollars per sheet. *** Write to Larry Cox in care of KFWS, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803, or send e-mail to questionsforcox@aol.com. FOLK MUSIC CONCERT
Cooking With Lizzie
Derby Day Brunch (Part 1) The horses have run for the roses since 1875. The derby is still off and running the first Saturday of May. This year May 6 is the big event. Across the south there are celebrations galore, with big floppy hats in derby style, and mint julep is the drink of choice. Gatherings are centered around lunch, dinner and brunches in honor of the occasion. Party conversations focus intensely on the race unless guests are distracted by country ham, fresh strawberries and mint juleps. My menu for Derby Day Brunch is: Citrus Burst Fruit Dip, Spring Spinach Salad, Brunch Eggs, Country Ham, Modern Beaten Biscuits, Marinated Asparagus Spears, Derby Pecan Tarts and Mint Juleps. I will share three of the recipes with you this week and the rest of the recipes will follow next week.
Brunch Eggs 2 T. unsalted butter or margarine 2½ T. all-purpose flour 2 cups milk 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese 1/8 tsp. hot sauce 5 slices bacon
1/2 cup diced ham 1/4 cup chopped green onions 12 eggs, beaten 1 (4-oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained 1/3 cup soft fresh bread crumbs 1/4 tsp. paprika
Melt butter in heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Add cheese and hot sauce; stir until cheese melts and mixture is smooth. Set cheese sauce mixture aside. Cook bacon in large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, reserving 3 T. drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon and set aside. Saute ham and green onions in drippings until tender; add eggs and crumbled bacon. Cook without stirring until mixture begins to set on bottom, then stir gently to form large, soft curds. When eggs are set, stir in mushrooms and cheese sauce. Spoon egg mixture into lightly greased 12x8x2" baking dish. Combine bread crumbs and paprika, stirring well. Sprinkle over egg mixture. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours. Preheat oven to 350° F. Remove casserole from refrigerator; bake, uncovered, 30 minutes, or until heated through. Yield: 6 to 8 servings.

Ministries by: Cliff Sanders
The Healing Waters Multitudes of sick and suffering people lay around a pool in the temple comp ound called the Pool of Bethesda. At certain times an angel was believed to come down and stir up the waters and the first suffering soul into the pool would be healed. (John 5:1-23) Miracles of healing were not uncommon in Jewish history and culture. In the wilderness wanderings of the Israelites multitudes were bitten by fiery serpents and died because of their rebellious hearts. Moses was instructed to make a brazen serpent, put it on a pole, and all who would look at it wou l d b e he a l e d. (Numbers 21) Healing has always been a part of the gospel. On a certain feast day, Jesus went to the pool of Bethesda. No one recognized him. But when Jesus is in the house, miracles happen. There is healing water available for you. Note how Jesus made this impotent man of 38 years whole. JESUS DEMONSTRATES THE MERCY OF GOD! Bethesda
1. Is the book of Daniel in the Old or New Testament or neither? 2. What book's first verse is, "The elder unto the well-beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth."? Ephesians, 3 John, Titus, 2 Peter 3. From Exodus 25, what was the cover on

means "mercy". The pool of Bethesda was by the sheep's gate. This was the gate where the animals that were to be sacrificed on the temple altar were brought through. It signified that mercy comes through Jesus, the Lamb of God. "He was led as a lamb to slaughter . . . But he was wounded for our transg ressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:7, 5) God's mercy comes through the sheep's gate. Healing waters flow through the Lamb of God. At the pool lay a multitude of "sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the waters." (John 5:3) This signified the condition of Judaism and our spiritual condition. "For when we were without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly . . . But God
demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:6-10) Interestingly, water and blood flowed out of Christ's side when he was pierced with a Roman spear. (John 19:34) Meet Jesus at Bethesda by the sheep's gate, the place of mercy. JESUS DECLARES THE GRACE OF GOD! "I will declare your name t o my b re t h re n . " (Hebrews 2:12-13) The pool of Bethesda had f ive p orches. The number five stands for God's grace and favor throughout the Bible. For instance, Joseph showed favor to his brother Benjamin by giving him five portions of food and raiment. Jesus went to this man who had been in his condition for 38 years. "Do you want to be well?" Jesus asked him. He replied that he had no one to put him into the pool and someone always got there first. Like so many, he focused not on Jesus but himself, on others, and his traditions. Jesus declared the grace of God. "Rise, take up your bed, and walk." And immediately the man was made well. He
took up his bed and walked." (John 5:8-9) The healing waters of Jesus changes one from the inside out. Jesus later saw the man in the temple of prayer and praise. Isn't that where all the recipients of God's grace should be? Jesus said to him, "See you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you." (John 5:14) The grace of God motivates and enables us to take up our bed and walk in repentance and righteousness. JESUS DISTRIBUTES LIFE TO ALL WHO COME TO HIM! Jesus was criticized for healing on the Sabbath. Jesus said his Father was working and so was he; distributing everlasting life to all who would come to him. (John 5:16-23) Jesus is still working. Believe and receive His healing power for spirit, soul, and body. Jesus is the Living Water that gives healing and everlasting life. You'll find him at Bethesda, the pool of mercy by the sheep's gate of his saving grace. Shalom, Cliff Sanders Eagle Life Ministries eagleslife8@gmail.com

by Samantha Weaver • It was Founding Father and renowned polymath B enjamin Franklin who made the following sage observation: "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it." • Those looking for a new, somewhat more relaxing line of work might want to consider becom-
ing air farmers. Yes, that is an actual job title. Since 2015, the British company Aethaer has employed air farmers to "harvest" air in jars at locations all over the British Isles — largely in rural areas, away from roads and their attendant pollution. This pure British air is then sold for $115 per bottle, mostly to consumers in China, where cities are plagued
ARIES (March 21 to April 19) The Lamb loves to be surrounded by flocks of admirers. But be careful that someone doesn’t take his or her admiration too far. Use your persuasive skills to let him or her down easily. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) This is a good time to begin setting farreaching goals and connecting with new contacts. Aspects also favor strengthening old relationships -personal and/or professional. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A personal disappointment should be viewed as a valuable learning experience. Go over what went wrong and see where a change in tactics might have led to a more positive outcome. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Don’t leave projects unfinished or personal obligations unresolved, or you might find yourself tripping over all those loose ends later on. A relative has important news. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Expect a challenge to the usual way you do things. Although you might prefer the tried-and-true, once you take a good look at this new idea, you might feel more receptive to it. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Much work has yet to be done to polish a still-rough idea into something with significant potential. Expect to encounter some initial rejection, but stay with it nonetheless. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) There still might be some communication problems in the workplace, but
by unprecedented levels of pollution. • Everyone, it seems, has a patron saint — even those oft-reviled professionals, dentists. Images of Saint Apollonia show her holding a molar in one hand and an enormous pair of pliers in the other. • If you're both a lover of books and a travel junkie, then the Tolstoy Train is just the holiday for you. On this luxuriously appointed train — complete with a library — you can take a 14-hour overnight journey between Moscow and Helsinki, Finland, traveling through pine forests, rolling hills and quaint
they should be resolved soon. Meanwhile, that “tip” from a friend should be checked out. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A new relationship appears to need more from you than you might be willing to give right now. Best advice: Resist making promises you might not be able to keep. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) That restless feeling encourages you to gallop off into a new venture. But remember to keep hold of the reins so you can switch paths when necessary. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A demanding work schedule keeps the high-spirited Goat from kicking up his or her heels. But playtime beckons by the week’s end. Have fun. You earned it. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) You’re beginning to come out from under those heavy responsibilities you took on. Use this freed-up time to enjoy some much-deserved fun with people close to you. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Before you get swept away by a tidal wave of conflicting priorities, take time to come up for air, and reassess the situation. You might be surprised by what you’ll find. BORN THIS WEEK: Your leadership qualities are enhanced by a practical sense of purpose that keeps you focused on your goals. © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.
Russian villages. • Pepsi-Cola was introduced originally in 1898 with the far less appetizing name "Brad's Drink." • Those who study such things say that when a woman's husband dies, the length of her remaining life does not seem to be affected. When a man loses his wife, though, his lifespan decreases — unless he marries again. Thought for the Day: "Success isn't how far you got, but the distance you traveled from where you star ted .
