It was another wild week in Washington. The much anticipated Thursday hearing with former FBI Director James Comey came and went, with zero evidence that President Donald Trump had anything to do with Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential election. There was not a shred of proof on the charge of collusion that Trump tampered or had anything illegal to do with Hillary Clinton losing. Donald Trump was vindicated in this hearing. Will Democrats like Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the rest admit it? The answer is NO. But what these hearings did prove about Former FBI Director James Comey is he's guilty of leaking, which to me is mind boggling. The very person that the President of the United States asked to stop the leaks is a leaker. Now if this doesn't disturb the entire country, I don't know what will. In his own words, other than I can't comment in an open hearing — what a joke — he said, "I took my personal notes and gave them to someone who would give them to a reporter, and this is how the New York Times got the story." This whole thing was a ten-month witch hunt and nothing more. But let me assure you if Hillary Clinton had been elected President she would have fired James Comey on day one. Remember her statements about the 33,000 emails that Clinton herself

admitted were destroyed, some marked classified. What's interesting is the Democrats were ready to hang James Comey at that time, but after Comey's latest stunt over charges that Trump was colluding with Russia, Comey became their champion. But let's step back. Why didn't the Democrats call for an investigation into Bill Clinton's meeting with then U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the tarmac where their planes both landed by coincidence while Hillary Clinton was supposed to be under investigation? Clearly this was an improper meeting What were the consequences? Absolutely nothing. So do I believe the b.s. will stop? Unfortunately, I don't. The extreme left will continue to do what they can to undermine Trump and sadly, half of the Republicans in Washington aren't much better and will continue to do the same thing. This might be a very good time for the Libertarians to put up some decent candidates. In closing on this witch hunt, all I can conclude is the left undermined their own Russian narrative and the Democrats will continue to convict this President on a play on words. So what's next? Coming up on Tuesday, new Attorney General Jeff Sessions plans to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee. A footnote: James Comey was under Jeff Ses-

sions. The big question is, should Comey go to jail? The answer is absolutely yes! So on to the State of Illinois, and as promised last week, an explanation from our State Representative John Cavaletto (R) on the budget impasse in Illinois: The bottom line is that Governor Rauner and the Republicans want a truly balanced budget with reforms such as property tax relief, workers’ compensation reform and spending cuts. Speaker Madigan and t he D emo crats have blocked all of the reforms and instead want a tax increase to pay for ever-increasing spending. “The Democrats have the majority so they have control of the ball,” said Rep. Cavaletto a former high school basketball coach. “They keep dribbling the budget issue back and forth but won’t even take a shot by setting a revenue estimate and bringing a budget plan for a vote in the House. The shot clock is running out and our schools, colleges and universities, social service providers, businesses and all our residents need the certainty that only a comprehensive, balanced budget can provide.” Until next week To comment on this or any column in The Shopper’s Weekly, please mail to: Editor, P.O. Box 1223, Centralia IL 62801, email to info@theshoppersweekly.com or drop it off at the office on 301 E. Broadway. DEAR TRACY: Go ahead and take Dawn straight to the veterinarian. While it may just be a peculiarity of a new brand of litter, "soaked" litter doesn't sound normal to me, either. Excess urination is a signal of a physical problem with your cat.

Washington County Animal Control’s

e

DEAR P AW ’ S CORNER: My 8-yearold cat "Dawn" seems to be urinating a lot. In the past her litter box has been fairly dry and needed to be scooped only once a day. But now the litter just seems soaked. I did switch to a new brand of cat litter that doesn't "clump" because I heard it might cause health problems. I haven't seen Dawn drinking lots of water, but this seems weird. What do you think? — Tracy in Denver

Most owners first think of diabetes, but only the vet can make sure, because other conditions exist that also have excess urination as a symptom. Dawn could be drinking from other water sources besides her water dish, which is why you might not have noticed increased thirst. Cats that are getting ill tend to be secretive as well, because it's instinctive for them to hide their condition from predators. Write down anything else that appears different about Dawn, even if it doesn't seem important: changes in behavior and energy, her teeth and gums, in eating or drinking, and as you noticed, her bathroom habits. Once the veterinarian has diagnosed a problem, then you can work together on the best treatment plan for Dawn. If it's diabetes, the vet will recommend a very specific diet plan. If it's something else, they will offer solid advice on treatment.

EAGLE LIFE

Ministries by: Cliff Sanders

The Ninth Inning Champion For years baseball has been recognized as America's favorite pasttime. Someone even coined the term "It's as American as baseball and apple pie." Baseball fans enjoy the seventh inning stretch and in some stadiums the fans stand and sing, "Take me out to the ballgame." It's a fun time and the fans enjoy a time of loyal camaraderie. But then comes the crucial ninth inning. It may be time to bring out the closer, a tried and proven pitcher. Fans are looking for a champion. Perhaps a Casey Stengel, a Babe Ruth, a Mickey Mantle, a Stan Musial, or a Cal Ripken, Jr. will step up to the plate and hit a home run. A champion in the ninth inning could win the game! I believe we are living in the ninth inning. The world needs a champion. There is a tried and proven champion and He has already won the game in the ninth inning — "'It is finished!' He cried from the cross. (John 19:30) The psalmist David leads us in praise to this champion in Psalm 9. You must know this ninth inning

1. Is the book of Ezra in the Old or New Testament or neither? 2. From Daniel 4, who had the vision of a tree growing higher and higher until it could be seen by everyone? Silas, Josiah, Nebuchadnezzar, Solomon 3. Which Book could

champion. "I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you . . . The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." (Psalm 9:1-10) David gave us the secret of being a champion, "Those who know your name will trust in you." (Psalm 9:10) Israel was facing a giant by the name of Goliath. They were losing big-time — Israel needed a champion! A young rookie named David stepped up to the plate. David challenged the giant. "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts. This day

the Lord will deliver you into my hand and I will strike you and take your head from you . . . Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord's." (I Samuel 17:4551) David used a simple slingshot and a little stone to knock out the giant Goliath. He didn't go against the giant in his own strength but by faith in the name of the Lord! Who is the champion that David prophesied about? Matthew traced his genealogy, "Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham . . . Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a Son and they shall call his name Immanuel which is translated, "God with us." (Matthew 1:1-23) In the ninth inning facing the cross, Jesus prayed his priestly prayer in John 17. "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life; that they may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (John

17:1-3) Jesus confirmed what David said about victory. Knowing God and putting faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross makes one a son of God — a champion. (John 1:12) You have a true champion in Jesus. In the ninth inning Jesus stepped to the plate and not only sacrificed his life on the cross as our substitute, but on the third day he arose victorious over death, hell, and the grave. In his last priestly prayer, our champion prayed for our pardon, protection, power, and provision of the full measure of his joy. (John 17) I believe we are in the last inning. Jesus gave this promise to those who know him, "Behold, I am coming soon! . . . I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city." (Revelation 22:12-13) Do you know him, this Champion of Champions? Shalom, Cliff Sanders Eagle Life Ministries eagleslife8@gmail.com

CENTRALIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is proud to announce Marcus Holland as the new Executive Director. Holland will fill the vacant position created when B ob Kelsheimer retired after serving twelve years as the Executive Director and will start his position on June 19, 2017. "I am excited to build on the existing successes of the Centralia Chamber of Commerce. Of course, Balloon Fest will be my first big event as director, which would not exist without the support and contributions of sponsors and volunteers.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) A recent spate of confusion regarding decision-making begins to clear up. But caution is still advised. Continue to check details. An old friend has important news. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You’re anxious to see your ideas move from concept to development. But trying to force the issue right now could backfire. Wait for movement to resume shortly. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Keep your thoughts focused on the positive as you deal with an unexpected turn of events in a personal or professional relationship. This could be the start of a welcome change. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Health matters take on added importance at this time. Deal with them before they interfere with your summer plans. A relationship that cooled off could soon warm up again. LEO (July 23 to August 22) While a few details involving upcoming decisions still need your attention, you fun-loving Felines can begin to spend more time enjoying your lively social life again. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) That long-sought-after career change could require you to move to another city. Weigh your decision carefully before either accepting or rejecting the offer out of hand. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A workplace situation can be awkward for Librans who prefer to keep

their problems private. But you might have to “tell-all” if you hope to see it resolved in your favor. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Although your financial situation starts to improve this week, you still need to be cautious about money matters. Avoid major obligations, for now. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Your overall aspects continue to brighten, allowing you to tackle long-deferred challenges. A change in travel plans could work to your benefit. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Things seem to be slowing down for the usually restless Sea Goat. But wouldn’t a bit of respite be just what you need right now? Activity picks up by the weekend. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Personal relationships take a positive turn for both married and single Aquarians. Professional commitments, however, could be complicated by newly emerging events. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A decision you thought was final might be reopened as new facts are discovered. This could lead to a short-term problem, but ultimately might prove beneficial. BORN THIS WEEK: Your keen interest in pursuing global events could lead you into a career as a politician or journalist. © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.

Thank you all for your continued support," says Marcus. Marcus currently sits on the Executive Committee for Balloon Fest and has been involved in the steering committee as Craft CoChair for several years. He has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce since he moved to Centralia in 2006. "Centralia has shown me how important it is to support the community we live in and I believe that the Chamber of Commerce is the best tool for local businesses and community members to work together and improve our city," says

Marcus. Most recently, Marcus will be leaving the position of Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Crossroads Community Hospital and the position of Vice President of Ambassadors for the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. From 2008 to 2015, he worked for Un it e d Me t h o d i s t Children's Home as their fundraising, marketing, and development coordinator. In addition to the Chamber of Commerce, Marcus has been actively involved in several community events and organi-
