Russia... Russia... Russia. How long can the liberal media play on the same subject by just adding a new twist or two? Last week it was reported that the Barack Obama administration was aware the Russians were trying to help Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections. This allegedly happened in early fall and Obama said or did nothing about it. Oh, the web they weaved. The truth is absolutely no one hurt Hillary Clinton's chances of winning except Hillary Clinton's corruption. She hurt herself. The bottom line is the Democratic Party picked a candidate that was unelectable. And speaking of Hillary Clinton, early last week it was reported on CNN and MSNBC that some democrats were very concerned about Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-inlaw, as well as General Michael Flynn who resigned after less than a month as national security advisor under Donald Trump. Both have security clearance. Democrats want them stripped of their security clearance. It then occurred to me that usually when Chuck Schumer and other top democrats start pointing a finger and acting like five-year-olds, it's time to look a little deeper, and upon some digging, deeper it got. What I found was Hillary Clinton and seven of her top aides still (yes

still) have their State Department security clearance over a year after the FBI concluded they (referring to Clinton and her aides) were "extremely careless" handling sensitive information. By the way, who said that Mrs. Clinton, along with seven of her aides, was "extremely careless"? None other than the FBI Director at the time, James Comey, while Clinton was under investigation for using a private email address and home brewed server to send and receive classified information. Remember she destroyed 33,000 emails, some classified, and she and her aides still have security clearance today. They have access to classified and top secret documents. This information didn't surface until Obama left the White House. Frankly, I find this unimaginably offensive for someone that, in my opinion, should be in jail for a number of questionable offenses. Where's Chuck Schumer on her aides and her State Department security clearance? Why hasn't the liberal media reported on this? By the way, Fox News did try to contact Clinton on this matter; she could not b e re a che d for comment. However, Sen. Chuck Grassly (R-TN) revealed Clinton's security status recently. Grassly also said that as early as 2015 and 2016 former Secretary of State John Kerry ignored his queries on this matter.

So don't be surprised if current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson does get involved in this matter. And so he should! On to the new healthcare bill. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said last week he wants a Senate vote this week on Thursday, and so it will be. I believe at this time the new healthcare bill faces a huge challenge, and in my opinion, it has a 50 / 50 chance of passing. Frankly, my attitude is unlike former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who said of the ACA (Obamacare), “But we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it....” And she recently condemned Trump's new bill even though she had not a clue what was in it, and said so. Pelosi said, "I haven't read it." My feelings are, I really can't comment much. I have read some of it and have started looking at what's been proposed. I believe we don't need to rush on this. It's important to get it right... the exact opposite of the ACA. Let's not make another mess for the American people, but it's also important because healthcare is one sixth of the American economy. Pets In Need

A Page Dedicated To Our Four-Footed Fuzzy Children.

Ice Cream Melted, But Pets Saved DEAR P AW ’ S CORNER: It never seems to end, despite all the public-service announcements: People still leave their pets locked in their cars on hot summer days. I just spent an hour in front of the supermarket, with my groceries melting in my own car, making a report to a police officer who had to break someone's car window to get in and rescue two dogs panting inside. The windows weren't

even cracked, and the sun was beginning to get hot. This is Georgia in early summer, and the heat is merciless. I locked up my groceries and went looking for the owner first. I had the store page its customers, and I went into each of the small stores of the shopping center and asked if the owner was there. No response, so I called the police. It's amazing how fast the owner appeared after the police officer, who couldn't unlock the door using a tool, smashed in the passenger side window. The owner was pretty mad at me, but I gave him his chance. He was even madder when he got a citation. But I don't care, even if the ice cream in my car did melt. It's worth it to know that those dogs weren't injured. — Doreen A., Marietta, Georgia

DEAR DOREEN: I'm so glad those dogs weren't hurt! Your story is a great example of what to do if you notice pets in a locked car. It also IS OK to call the police first so that the

ROTARY CLUB OF MT. VERNON PRESENTS SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD The Rotary Club of Mt. Vernon presented its inaugural Service Above Self award at this week’s meeting. Rotary President Mary Harvey reported the idea for the award came about as a way to honor one of the first responders in our community for valor and to say thank you and demonstrate how grateful we are for their service. First responders are the heroes among us, she said, that have decided to face up to what most of us turn or run away from. During the discussion of the award it was decided it was fitting to dedicate the prize to the late Jack Overstreet, a long time Rotarian who had a lifelong commitment to helping others.

Shown presenting the award (L to R) are Rotarians James Flagg, Brandon Bullard, Judge David Overstreet, Ryan Schmidt and President Mary Harvey. After a review of candidates from the communities’ police, fire and EMS services, Angie Litton, o w n e r o f L i t t o n’s Ambulance Service, was

selected as this year’s recipient. During the award ceremony she thanked the club for the honor and recognized the service of her 40 employees.

2017 MSP IDOL OF THE YEAR Andrea Barclay won the title of “MSP Idol of the Year” at the Friends of McLeod Summer Playhouse’s 2017 Singing with the Stars event on Friday, June 2. Barclay, who is owner/chef at Global Gourmet in Carbondale, wowed the crowd of more than 300 with her delicious rendition of “All That Jazz” from the musical “Chicago.” The competition also featured fun and fearless performances by area “stars” Linda Flowers, Robert Foster, Sharon Harris-Johnson, Elizabeth Lewin, Dennis Poshard and Dr. Eugenio Vargas, each serving-up a mouth-watering treat for the audience. Judges Jan Payne, Dr. Kurt Martin and Caleb Nehring

added spice with hilarious wise-cracking comments. Mike Kasser of Southern Illinois Healthcare served as emcee and offered a parody of “California Dreamin’” as a starter. The “stars” were supported on stage by MSP cast members, some from the SIU BFA Musical Theater Program. J. Thomas Kidd, managing artistic director, staged the proceedings, with Jenna Mee Dosch providing accompaniment for the sevencourse feast. The annual fundraiser, now in its twelfth year, helps support the playhouse season and is presented by the FMSP Board of Directors. In addition to the fun-filled cornucopia

RAISE YOUR VOICE WITH ‘SISTER ACT’ AT MSP Raise your voice with “Sister Act” the Broadway musical, July 7-16, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s McLeod Summer Playhouse. This hilarious stage adaptation of the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg tells the story of a third-rate lounge singer who hides out in a convent after witnessing a gangland killing. Once there, she brings her unique “voice” to the nuns’ choir and shapes them into a singing sensation that revitalizes a disappearing congregation. SIH Medical Group sponsors the production. The original musical score — with great rhythm and blues and disco influences — is composed by Alan Menken. Menken also composed the music for shows including “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid.” He is a multiple Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winner. The show has lyrics by Glenn Slater. J. Thomas Kidd, managing artistic director, is dire c t ing t he McL e o d Summer Playhouse (MSP) production, with Darryl Kent Clark, who teaches musical theater dance for SIU Theater, supplying the frisky choreography. Kevin A. Smith serves as musical director for the rousing score. Sets are designed by Ron Naversen, with costumes by Kristina Sneshkoff and lighting by Will Coeur. Local celebrity Brandyn McGhee designs the sound. There are many reasons to shout about this production; one of them is the superlative cast. MSP company members play the slamming nuns, each of them a star. Shelby Terrell (Cinderella/Pinkalicious) is postulant Sister Mary Robert. Bailey Vincent (Little Red Riding Hood) is novice Sister Mary Patrick. Lindsay Manson (The Witch), Danae DeShazer (The Baker’s Wife) and Mikayla Cohen (Rapunzel) are Sister Mary Lazarus, Sister Mar y Martin-of-Tours and Sister Mary Theresa. Chicago-area veteran

Deloris (center) wags with the Sisters. Pictured (L to R) are Shelby Terrell, Alexis Nwokoji and Lyndsay Manson. actress Jane Brewer returns to MSP play the resistant Mother Superior. Brewer appeared as Little Mary Sunshine and more recently in “Mid-Life! The Crisis Musical” Raising the roof at the convent is SIU musical theater student Alexis Nwokoji in the starring role of Deloris Van Cartier, the diamond-in-the-rough, onthe-lam lounge singer. Local audiences will remember her show-stopping turn as Mama Noah in last year’s SIU Theater production of “Children of Eden.” Her breakout performance alone will make you a believer. Featured also are Asia Ward and Mikayla Cohen as Tina and Michelle, Deloris’ pre-convent back-up lounge singers. On the shady-side of the story is Curtis Jackson, the “I’m-gonna-make-you-astar” gangster ex-boyfriend, played by Casey Gulledge (Mysterious Man). His thugs, TJ, Joey, and Pablo are played by Aaron Chancellor Gilmer (Jack), Steven Rochet (Rapunzel’s Prince) and Malik Van Hoozer-Elliott (The Wolf). Jonathan Steffins (Cinderella’s Prince) plays thug-turned-police-informant murder-victim, Ernie. The hero is investigating p olice of f icer Eddie Souther, whose job to protect Deloris turns to love. Eddie Ortega (The Baker) brings his talent to the role. In a great supporting role, Bart Phillip Williams, on faculty at Southeast

Missouri State University, returns to MSP to play the “save-the-convent-fundraising” Monsignor O’Hara. Williams was King Arthur in MSP’s “Spamalot.” Musical theater students Br yce B eliveau, Jake Ellsworth, Andrew Lampley, Josh Miller, Madison Pruitt, Michael Radford, Michael Sigillito, Jonathan Steffins, and Emily Turner bring their substantial talents to the ensemble of the production. “Sister Act” performances are July 7-9 and July 14-16. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in McLeod Theater, located in the Communications Building on the SIU Carbondale campus. Tickets are $30 for adults, $14 for students and $10 for children, and are available online at playhouse.siu.edu. Tickets also are available from noon to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, by telephone at 618/4536000 or in person at the McLeod Theater or SIU Arena box offices. Some fees apply to online and telephone orders. After the first Saturday performance, July 8, there will be a talk with cast members and audiences. Interested persons and youth groups are encouraged to participate and may access a promo code for a special lower ticket price on the playhouse website under the shows and events/special events page.

By Larry Cox WWII Ration Books Q: I have two War Ration Books, and I wonder if they are worth keeping or should I cash them in. — Helen, Decatur, Illinois A: Millions of ration books were issued during World War II. They were intended to prevent the hoarding of such goods as coffee, sugar, meat and other items in short supply due to the war. Ration books generally sell in the $5 to $25 range, but unlike savings bonds, you can't cash them in as you wish. *** Q: I have two crocks that were made in Parkersburg, West Virginia, by A.P. Donaghho. I believe they were probably produced in the 1940s. What could they be worth? — Leonard, Salisbury, Maryland A: Alexander Polk Donaghho moved to Parkersburg from Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, in 1870. He built a kiln there because of the rich clay deposits and continued in

Parkersburg until 1903, when he ceased operations. Your crocks are more than a century old, much earlier than you suspected. Donaghho is best known for his hand-decorated stoneware. He later used stencils, but it is his earlier pieces that bring record prices. Grilled Burgers With A Twist I love summer for a lot of reasons, but one is I get to say to my husband — my better half — what's for dinner? It's chilling time for me but grilling time for him! And nothing's better on the grill than good old hamburgers, for parties as well as casual dinners. Personally, my favorite is grilled sirloin burgers topped with swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms. Below are a few new twists for burgers, perfect for the 4th of July with sides of slaw or potatoes salad, sliced tomatoes and a flag cake.

Soy Dipped Burgers 1/2 cup each soy sauce and water 1 clove garlic, minced or pressed 2 tsp. grated fresh ginger 2 T. Worcestershire 6 T. firmly packed brown sugar

In bowl, mix soy, water, garlic, ginger, Worcestershire, and sugar. Shape beef into 8 patties, each about 1 inch thick; place in large heavy-duty plastic bag. Pour soy marinade over patties in bag; seal bag securely and rotate to distribute marinade. Place in shallow baking pan. Refrigerate (or place in picnic cooler) for 1 to 2 hours. Lift patties from marinade and drain briefly (reserve marinade). Place patties on lightly greased grill 4 to 6 inches above solid bed of hot coals. Cook, turning once and basting several times with marinade, until done to your liking; cut to test (about 10 minutes for medium-rare). When you turn patties, place buns, cut side down, around outside of grill to toast. Serve patties on buns, with tomatoes and bell pepper rings. Makes 8 servings.

IDNR URGES PUBLIC TO LEAVE FIREWORKS DISPLAYS TO THE PROFESSIONALS The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is reminding organizations and individuals sponsoring fireworks displays in Illinois to be sure their fireworks vendor has the required state licenses and certificates issued by the IDNR and the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) prior to their fireworks show. The Illinois Explosives Act requires that anyone who purchases, possesses, uses, transfers, stores or disposes of explosives, including display fireworks, must have an explosives license and explosives storage certificate issued by the IDNR. Licensing and storage requirements administered by the IDNR do not apply to Consumer Fireworks (classified as 1.4 explosives). Approved Consumer Fireworks are regulated by the OSFM and are permitted only in villages, counties and mu-

nicipalities that have passed ordinances allowing such displays. Consumer fireworks may be purchased and displayed only by adults who have obtained permits from their local jurisdiction. Hand held fireworks, including fire crackers, roman candles, and bottle rockets are not approved for sale or use in Illinois. The Illinois Explosives Act is administered by the IDNR Office of Mines and Minerals’ Explosives and Aggregate Division. This Division is staffed by trained and experienced blasting specialists located throughout Illinois. In addition to requiring comprehensive licensing, training and examination for individuals, the law requires that unattended display fireworks and explosives must be stored in an explosives magazine, storage facility or container that is inspected and certified by

IDNR. IDNR currently has 2,192 individuals licensed for the use of explosives in Illinois, of which approximately 1,033 are specifically for the use of display fireworks. There are 786 certified explosives storage magazines in Illinois, which contain nearly 45 million pounds of explosives. Of those storage magazines, 139 are certified specifically for the storage of display fireworks. Anyone possessing, using, transferring or purchasing display fireworks without a valid IDNR individual explosives license or storage certificate is violating Illinois law and could incur penalties. A violation of the Illinois Explosives Act can be a Class 3 felony, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. In addition, the IDNR can assess administrative fines for violations involving display

fireworks and other explosives. Emergency responders are reminded to contact IDNR and the OSFM immediately with reports of personal injury or property damage resulting from the use of explosives, including display fireworks. For more information on the IDNR explosives regulatory program, log on to http://www.dnr.illinois. gov/mines/EAD/Pages/ ExplosivesHandling Storage.aspx. In addition, for more information concerning the OSFM fireworks regulatory program, log on to http://www.sfm. illinois.gov/Public/ Consumer-Fireworks. To report an explosives incident or accident concerning display fireworks, the public should contact the IDNR Office of Mines and Minerals, Explosives and Aggregate Division at 217-782-9976 and the OSFM at 217-785-0969.

GIRL SCOUTS RECOGNIZE TOP COOKIE SELLERS Girl S cout C ookie Program a Tremendous Success Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois (GSSI) recently wrapped up its annual Girl Scout Cookie Program. The cookie program was a tremendous success with over 7,800 girls selling more than 1,038,000 boxes of delicious Girl Scout Cookies. “This year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program was a huge success! I’d like to thank all of our girls, their parents and the fantastic volunteers who contributed to the success of the cookie program,” said Kelly Jansen, Director of Pro duct Program for GSSI. “The dedication and commitment of all those involved allow us to provide girls throughout southern Illinois with a great Girl Scout Leadership Experience.” Top Girl Scout Cookie Sellers for our area: Centralia, Madaline Ruez, 500 boxes, Troop 08338, Centralia; Clinton County, Kaleigh Voegeli 1018 boxes, Troop 08834, Carlyle; East Marion County, Vane ss a Dodson, 600 boxes, Troop

08572, Salem; Fayette County, Delaynee Ward, 400 boxes, Troop 08383, Vandalia; Jefferson County, Sydney Fenton, 1473 boxes, Troop 08653, Mt. Vernon; North Franklin County, Paige Jennings, 606 boxes, Troop 08924, Benton; Washington County, Susan Kressin, 314 boxes, Troop 08736, Okawville; West Frankfort, Katie Arview, 751 boxes, Troop 08017, West Frankfort. The Girl Scout Cookie Program helps girls gain five valuable skills – goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics – that will benefit them throughout life. In addition, proceeds from the cookie program help Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois recruit and train adult volunteers, provide financial assistance so Girl Scouting is available to all girls, improve and maintain camp properties, and develop and deliver extensive program activities for girls. Girl Scouts and cookies share a rich history. While recipes and box designs have changed over the

years, selling cookies remains an important part of today’s Girl Scout program. The activity of selling cookies is directly related to the Girl Scouts’ purpose of helping all girls reach their full potential and helping them become strong, confident and resourceful citizens. All cookie proceeds stay right here in southern Illinois. Many successful businesswomen today say that got their start selling Girl Scout Cookies. While participating in cookie activities, girls are members of a team working toward a common goal, with each girl striving to do her best. Customers had the opportunity to not only choose from a variety of cookies for themselves, but they could also purchase cookies to benefit GSSI’s Gift of Caring program. GSSI’s Gift of Caring program, called Operation: Sweet Treats, allowed customers to purchase and donate cookies that will be sent to military members serving overseas as well as local military organizations in southern Illinois.

They are: • The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal. • The flag should not be used as a drapery, or for covering a speaker’s desk, draping a platform or for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.

• When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. Note: Most American Legion Posts regularly conduct a dignified flag burning ceremony, often on Flag Day, June 14. Contact your local American Legion Hall and inquire about the availability of this service. Displaying the Flag Outdoors When the flag is displayed from a staff projecting from a window, balcony or a building, the union should be at the peak of the staff unless the flag is at half staff. When it is displayed from the same flagpole with another flag – of a state, community, society or Scout unit – the flag of the United States must always be at the top except that the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for Navy personnel when conducted by a Naval chaplain on a ship at sea.

The Keys of Freedom Research shows that learning to forgive those who hurt us can have powerful benefits. In 2004, some 40 researchers met to review their findings in probing the healing power of making peace. Lisa Collier Cool shared the results of the research in her article “The Power of Forgiving – Best Way to Heal a Heart” in the May, 2004 issue of “Readers Digest” that, on top of having profound emotional benefits, purging our anger through forgiveness may also help heal some of what ails us physically. In “The Lord’s Prayer”, Jesus taught, “And forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have¬ sinned against us.” (Matthew 6:9-15) Jesus taught that there are consequences of unforgiveness. If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. We must choose to forgive for our own benefit as well as the benefit of others. Jesus gave a parable of an unjust servant who refused to forgive a

1. Is the book of Ecclesiastes in the Old or New Testament or neither? 2. Which book could be summarized, "God will hold us accountable for all our actions"? Daniel, Hosea, Zephaniah, Haggai 3. From Genesis 28,

fellow slave, even though he himself was magnanimously forgiven a large debt. “And his lord was wroth and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due him.” (Matthew 18:21-35) Dr. Neil T. Anderson, in his book Victory Over the Darkness, says, “I have had the privilege to help people around the world find their freedom in Christ. In every case, forgiveness was an issue and in many cases, it was ‘THE’ issue that needed to be resolved.” FORGIVENESS IS REQUIRED BY GOD. (Matthew 6:14-15) On the cross, Jesus prayed for those who nailed him there, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” We must base our relationships with others in the same way which God bases his relationship with us – love, acceptance, and forgiveness. FORGIVENESS IS

Wednesday, June 28, 2017

NECESSARY. To be free from the traps and bondages of Satan, one must forgive those who have caused pain. (II Corinthians 2:11) FORGIVENESS IS REQUIRED, if we desire to be like Jesus and have his peace. As believers, we need to forgive. (Ephesians 4:31-32) “You mean I’m just supposed to let these people off the hook?” Yes! “’Vengeance is mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19) Forgiveness doesn’t mean we condone or allow continual sin or wrong. Sometimes we must confront others concerning their actions. I have found that when I choose to forgive regardless of how I feel, God will give me the grace to do so. These keys to freedom in forgiveness have helped me over the years in dealing with daily offenses. ASK God to bring to your memory the people you need to forgive. Make a list of them including the wrongs or any wrongs you have done. ACKNOWLEDGE the power of the cross. “He who knew no sin became sin for us.” (II Corinthians 5:21; Gala-

tians 3:13) “Forgive as Christ has forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32) AGREE to forgive regardless of how you feel. “Forgiveness is a crisis of the will, a conscious choice to let the other person off the hook and free yourself from the past.” (Dr. Neil T. Anderson) ABSOLVE the person through the prayer of forgiveness. Pray specifically. (Matthew 5:44) ANTICIPATE positive changes in you. Don’t expect your prayer of forgiveness to necessarily change the other person, but it will begin a change in you. ACCLAIM God’s grace and mercy to you. Thank him for the lessons learned and the personal growth gained through the offense of others and your decision to forgive. (Romans 8:28-29) Do you want to be free from life’s hurts and heartaches? Receive the forgiveness of Christ and forgive others from your heart. “Forgive ‘me’ of ‘my’ sins, just as ‘I’ forgive those who have sinned against ‘me’.” (Matthew 6:12) Shalom, Cliff Sanders Eagle Life Ministries eagleslife8@gmail.com

The Shoppers Weekly Papers Mt. Vernon Area

by Samantha Weaver • It was beloved English author J.R.R. Tolkien, best known for fantasy tales "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings," who made the following sage observation about his chosen genre: "I have been a lover of fairystories since I learned to read. Why should a man be scorned if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if, when he cannot do

so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison walls?" • You might be surprised to learn that thieves, too, have a patron saint: Saint Dismas. Incidentally, he's also the patron saint of prisoners and funeral directors. • You're probably aware that nocturnal animals are active at night and that diurnal animals are active during

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Information you need might be coming in sporadically, but at least what you’re getting is valuable. Continue to wait until more is available before acting on that career move. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You continue on an upbeat cycle, and with that strong Taurean energy you should see favorable results from your hard work. A pleasant surprise awaits you in your private life. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A misunderstanding needs more time to be worked out. Don’t give up on it just yet. Remain open to providing explanations, if called for. Another friend offers good advice. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Fast action can correct a seemingly minor problem that has taken on some unexpectedly difficult aspects. Stay with it until it’s resolved. News on a more positive note is due soon. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Some snags could cause delays in those plans you’re eager to see put into operation. But be patient. The Clever Cat will soon have good reason to celebrate a job well done. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Be careful not to let that Virgan sensitivity dissuade you from being the hardheaded realist you should be at this time. Your goals are in sight. Stay focused on them. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A more positive aspect opens up, allowing you to make some impor-

the day. But what about creatures that prefer the twilight hours? Yep, they have a name, too: They're crepuscular. • Those who study such things say that ecdysiasts — those performers better known as stripteasers — are likely to be first-born children. • In a recent survey of Americans and Britons, conducted on behalf of meditation app Calm. com, respondents reported that they get their best sleep of the week on Thursday nights, while Sunday night is the worst for sleeping. • In India at one time, it was believed that eggshells held clues to the

tant changes in a personal situation. Remember to seek balance and avoid extremes as you proceed. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) This is a good week to get out and enjoy the fine times you missed while you were so deep in those workaday projects. Be sure to share it with that special person. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Work and play are in balance this week. However, expect news that could tip things toward the workplace for quite a while. But all to a good end. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) You’re more productive on the job than you have been in some time. That’s good. But be careful not to overlook some situations developing in your private life. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) You’ve been doing a lot for others (as usual). But now it’s time to focus on your needs, including finally going on that long-delayed trip you’ve been hoping to make. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) It’s all smoothly going on ‘twixt you and that very special person in your life. But a colleague causes some disruption on the job that you might be called on to help settle. BORN THIS WEEK: You are sensitive to the needs of others. But you’re no pushover. You would make a fine teacher, psychologist or minister. © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.

future. Fortunetellers would smash a hen's egg against a special board, then interpret the pattern made by the fragments of shell. • Add this to the list of America's puzzling small-town festivals: Every June, the town of Ainsworth, Nebraska, puts on the Middle of Nowhere Celebration. *** Thought for the Day: "The true test of a civilization is, not the census, nor the size of the cities, nor the crops -- no, but the kind of man the country turns out." — Ralph Waldo Emerson © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.
