CenTraLIa ORPHANS The Centralia orphans are ready to jump into the 67th Salem Tourney, and Coach Lee Bennett will use the SIT to get his Orphans on track for the run to the top of the South Seven and the IHSA play-offs in February. The orphans are currently at 10-3 and will try to lock up a top seed in the SIT again this year. Coach Bennett is relying on a close knit group of Orphans to play tough defense and

play their controlled style offense which is being led by 6'2" Javon Williams, Jr. who is averaging 25 points per game, along with his classmate 6'0" Jordan Maines who is averaging 16 per game. The rest of

Coach Bennett's players are 6'2" Johnathan Keeler, 6'2" Shaun reid, 6'1" peyton Long, and the guard play will be shared between 5'8" Bryan Meskil, 5'9" Jamie Long, and 5'10" Matt patrick, along with 5'10"

preston Johannes, 5'10" Sirlando Calcutt, 6'0" Hunter Martin and 5'8" Akeel Johnson. As you can see, these Orphans are on the small side, but with their ability to play hard nose defense, they are tough to beat and will use that style to bring home the trophy from the 67th Salem Invitational Tourney. eDWarDsVILLe TIGERS The Tigers are not ready just yet to give up their role as the champions of the Salem Invitational Tournament on this, the 67th annual event. Coach Waldo always has his Tigers ready to go for the SIT. The Tigers are off to a solid start at 10-4 and will look to improve on that record at the SIT again this season. Coach Waldo has a pair of nice veterans in 6'6" Caleb Strohmeier who

averages 16 points and 11 rebounds a game, and his shooting guard 6'0" Jack Marinko who puts up 27.5 points per game. He also has 6'3" Craig roberts, 6'3" Lavontas Hairston; 5'10" Malik robinson; 5'8" Jvon

always plays very tough defense and controls the boards at all times. The Tigers are looking to make a run at the Southwest Conference and will once again use the SIT to springboard them into the IHSA play-offs along with trying to wrap up another championship at the SIT in 2018. eFFInGHam FLAMING HEARTS The Flaming Hearts of Effingham are ready to tackle the 67th Salem Invitational Tournament. Under new Head Coach rem Woodruff, the Hearts are off to an 8-8 start. They look to pick up the pace in the Apollo Conference this season and hope to use the SIT to push them further down the road towards the IHSA play-offs. Coach Woodruff will rely on his two bigs in 6'8" Cole Marxman and 6'5"

Landon Wolfe, which will allow the Hearts to go inside as much as they want. Also, 6'3" Matt robinson and a trio of 6'2" players in Clayton Cramsey, Blake Lohman, and Logan

Smith will help keep up the pressure in the paint. The guard play will be handled by these young men: 5'10 sophomore Tate Niebrugge, 5'11" senior ryan Sandifer, 6'0" sophomore

Cameron Kalber, 6'0" senior Lucas Vasquez, and a pair of 5'11" juniors, Lucas Hagler and Dylan Bushur. Coach Woodruff will push his Hearts to the top of the SIT if possible this year, and he hopes to have a top seed wrapped up before the 67th Salem Tourney is set to kick off on January 17, 2018. Coach Creel will accept that record for now going into the 67th Salem Invitational, which the rams will try to use as a launching pad to fire them into the play-offs at the end of February. Coach Creel will rely on 6'6" weston

TeuToPoLIs WOODEN SHOES The 67th Salem Tournament is preparing for the wooden Shoes of Coach Jason Hanson to take the SIT by storm, and they will probably be the number one seed as they are 12-2 and the champions of the Capital Classic in Springfield already. Coach Hanson's Shoes will really fit in the SIT this year and will look to upset the big three in Edwardsville, Mt. Vernon and Centralia. Coach

Hanson will look for his big men to hold down other teams with their overall size in 6'6" Clint Weber, 6'5" Eric Kremer, 6'5" Dawson Smith, and two players who stand in at 6'2", Ian Addis and

Mitch Hardiek. Coach will have his guards keep the game moving up and down the court with 6'0" Lucas Drees, 5'10" Collin Kreke, 6'0" Collin Funneman, 5'11" Landon Jansen and 6'1"

Lee Hardiek. Coach Jansen will have his team play a very tough defense at all times and let the three ball fly. The Wooden Shoes will get after all the 3A schools in the 67th Salem Invitational and show them what a great tradition they have at Teutopolis and in the 2A play-offs Team profile by Mike Ellis

THornTon FraCTIonaL norTH METEORS The Meteors are back in the Salem Invitational Tournament after skipping last year's event. Coach Tim Bankston, Sr. has his team playing at top notch with a 6 –1 record so far. The Meteors play in the very tough South Surburban Conference and will try to win it this season, using the 67th Salem Tourney to get them driving in the right direction before the IHSA play-offs begin.

Coach Bankston, Sr. has a senior laden squad this season with Charles White III; Nathaniel Jones, Jr.; Kelton Auston; rayshaun Watson; Mike oray, Jr.; Dariun Walker; and Aeon Johnson. This

experienced group will keep the Meteors on their toes and the pressure on their foes. Coach Bankston, Sr. likes bringing his team south to get them playing in front of large crowds at

the SIT. Also, juniors Savon Cameron; Syncere Simmons; and Cornelius Gilbert, Jr.; along with a couple of talented freshmen, Clifton Brown, Jr. and Justin Atoyebi will allow the Meteors to keep fresh legs on the court at all times in the 67th Salem Invitational Tournament. TrIaD KNIGHTS The Knights of Triad under Coach Josh Hunt are ready to play in the 67th Salem Invitational Tournament. They have an 8-7 record so far this season and will hope to get a top four seed this season. Coach Hunt has a group of players who have a nice amount of size starting with 6'7" Tyler Bloom, 6'5" ryan Holcomb, 6'4" Kyle Cox and 6'4" Nate

W W

Winslow, who will give the Knights the size and strength to compete at the SIT this year. Coach Hunt also will rely on 6'2' Beau Barbour, 6'2" Luke Cox, 5'9" Carson Milligan, 5'9" Trevor

Nott, 5'8" Zach Tonn, a pair of 6'2" players in Michael Tentis and Jaden Deatherage, and 6' 1" Joe Wade. This will allow Coach Hunt to pressure their foes for four quarters and

spread the time to the entire roster. The Knights really like to use the SIT as a spring board for the rest of the season. They'll look to move up the ladder in the post season and the SIT will help that to happen. Team profile by Mike Ellis
