YOUR Good News PAPER be a part of it!

A topic that I am frequently asked about is what can be done about the national debt. Before Trump was elected, it seemed to be a hot topic, but since the election it's not talked about as much. It's not that it's been forgotten about, it's just that it is a problem that won't be solved overnight. A much more interesting question is how did we get here? I'm going to do my best to answer this question as professionally as possible. Many liberals have said that it was only talked about "loudly and often" before the election because they saw it as empty campaign rhetoric. That is not true. It is talked about, but just not covered by the liberal media

the national debt has skyrocketed to the point that our grandchildren will be paying on it. When Barack Obama submitted his first budget in 2009 the national debt was $11.9 trillion. When he left office eight years later it was $19.6 trillion. The national debt almost doubled. What a mess to inherit! When Trump submitted his first budget this January the national debt was $20.3 trillion. Keep in mind that for the first year he or she is in office a new President and Congress are living under the budget set by the previous President and Congress, and for Donald Trump that would be Barack H. Obama's budget. The end of the

Tax Accountability, the political action arm of Taxpayers United of America, is throwing their support behind Jason Plummer for Illinois State Senate. Jason is currently campaigning in the 54th District Republican primary election. Taxpayers United of America is a national organization that

works on behalf of taxpayers to reduce local, state, and federal taxes. In t h e i r l e tt e r, Ta x Accountability states that Plummer was endorsed because of his “expressed commitment to oppose the income tax increase” and that he has “also pledged to support economic

freedom by working to decrease the overall tax burden of Illinois taxpayers.” “The only way to create quality jobs and bring prosperity back to Illinois is to lower taxes. Taxpayers in Southern Illinois have one of the highest overall tax burdens in the country and its killing jobs and

driving people out of the state in droves” Plummer said. “Tax Accountability has done great work and I look forward to working with them to lower out-of-control property taxes, repeal the income tax increase, and block the new plans to create additional tax increases on hard-working Illinoisans.”

networks — like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, The Washington Post, etc. — who are too busy slamming the President. Why would they want to do real news like pointing out the great things he has done. Possibly you need to change the networks you watch as well as the late night un-American shows with hosts that are not just nasty but are also totally disrespectful. In other words, it doesn't matter what Trump does. Many of the liberals will pick it apart and continue on with a rash of fake news. Moving on to, "How did we get here?" Too bad that question wasn't asked of President Obama and the Democrats while it was happening. Now

second year will fall under Trump's budget, and that budget was passed last week after a brief shutdown. That could be the other reason the media doesn't talk about it. Obama is still responsible for the national debt. Hopefully that answers the questions. However, there is more to this. Obama would have inherited some of the cost of Katrina as well as the war on terror. Then he came in with his stimulus act, giving $400 billion to businesses (some after going bankrupt). So he inherited some, but he also spent a lot. The fact still remains that under Barack Obama the national debt grew the most dollar-wise. He added $7.9 trillion, a 68% increase, in just seven years. Under George W. Bush, $5.9 trillion, the second greatest amount, was added. The time to look at the national debt under Trump will be November 2019. So to accuse Trump of being responsible for national debt now is somewhat premature. So in closing, let me say the national debt is more than $20 trillion. It exceeded that amount on September 8, 2017. It's greater than the economic output of the entire country. It occurred despite congressional attempts to cut government spending. These included threats to not raise the debt ceiling and the U.S. debt crisis in 2011. That's when the U.S. headed toward a debt default. It continued with the fiscal crisis in 2012 and a government shutdown in 2013. Until next time.

Then beat in white chocolate until smooth. Pour filling into prepared crust. Bake 60 to 65 minutes, or until cake barely jiggles in center. ARIES (March 21 to April 19) It could be risky to push for a project you believe in but others are wary of. Never mind. If you trust your facts, follow your courageous Aries heart and go with it. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your enthusiasm sparks renewed interest in a workplace project that once seemed headed for deletion. Support from supervisors helps you make all necessary changes. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A colleague might be a bit too contrary when your ideas are being discussed in the workplace. A demand for an explanation could produce some surprises all around. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Try to avoid distractions at a time when maintaining stability in a fluid situation is essential. There’ll be time enough later for the Moon Child to enjoy some well-earned fun and games. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Stop wasting energy licking your wounded pride. Instead, put the lessons you learned from that upsetting experience to good use in an upcoming opportunity. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) You love being busy. But try not to make more work for yourself than you need to. Get help so that you don’t wind up tackling tasks that are better left to others. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Your usually balanced way of

assessing situations could be compromised by some so-called new facts. Check them out before making any shift in judgment. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) You might feel angry over an unexpected shift in attitude by someone you trusted. But this could soon turn in your favor as more surprising facts come out. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Love rules everywhere for all amorous Archers, single or attached. It’s also a good time to restore friendships that might have frayed over the years. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) It’s not always easy for the proud Goat to forgive past slights. But clearing the air could help establish a better climate for that important upcoming venture. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Good news: Your skillful handling of a recent matter has won admiration from someone who could be influential in any upcoming decisions involving you. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) You continue to welcome new friends into the widening circle of people whom you hold dear. One of those newcomers might soon have something special to tell you. BORN THIS WEEK: You love nature and inspire others to follow your example of concern for the planet’s well-being. © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.
