The fixation of the left on gun violence is to ban guns. A goal of communism is to ban guns. Part of c o m mu n i s t s ' p o w e r depends on a disarmed population. After the killing of schoolchildren in Florida [February 14], attention is being given to schoolchildren who are asking that guns be banned. Schoolchildren's attention should be directed toward cleaning-up the gun violence messages in the "entertainment" industry.....in the electronic games, television programs, and the music. Their concern should be asking the question: Why do people think it is okay

to kill? Maybe adults should also be focused on that question. Maybe the Bibles and Bible study groups that used to be in the schools should return to the schools. I don't remember if it was in the 1970s or 1980s when Godly pastors were warning about the government's attacks against Christian schools, and the removal of Bibles and Bible study groups from the public schools... that a pastor said that when Bibles were removed from schools that there would be bullets in the schools. Christians know that murder is in the heart and that Christ changes hearts. Is having Bibles in the schools worse than having bullets in the schools?

to protecting the life. “We are excited to have a candidate seeking election for the 54th Senate District from Illinois, who will help protect the lives of those threatened by abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia” the group said their letter of endorsement. “Our society embraces a culture of death. We must work in the legislative arena to protect vulnerable human beings.”

Yes, it is worse to communists, atheists, humanists, and their ilk in Congress. Sound the battle cry... see the foe is nigh.... raise the standard high... to the Lord. Reality Store Volunteers Needed Centralia Business and Professional Women, in partnership with the Centralia Sunrise and Noon Rotary Clubs, are hosting their 24th annual Reality Store for area eighth-graders on Friday, March 23, at the Centralia Jr. High School. This year's event is again sponsored by Thrivent Financial. A number of other area business have donated time, money and supplies to make this event possible. Approximately 280 stu-

dents from Centralia and the surrounding areas are expected to attend. Reality Store is "a day in life". The students imagine themselves as a 25 year old. They choose a career, decide marital status, if they have children, type of housing and vehicle they will own. They receive a paycheck and must pay bills based on their selections. The event is designed to give students a taste of real life responsibilities, practice check writing skills,

and gain a better understanding of family finances and budgeting. The event is from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. Of course it takes lots of volunteers to put on this event. All shifts are available. Call or text Sally Tiemann at 618-830-7604 or Rev. Anita Munden at 309-337-2631 to schedule a time or if you would like more information.

EAGLE LIFE

Ministries by: Cliff Sanders

The King’s Wedding Banquet Jesus taught many parables concerning the kingdom of heaven. It is vital that you be prepared to meet the sovereign king of heaven. In Matthew 22 Jesus gives us a parable of a king who prepares a lavish wedding dinner for his son. The invitations are sent out by his servants, but most are unwilling to come. They rejected the king and his son and abused and killed his servants. The king sent his armies to destroy those murderers. Then he sent his servants out into the highways, hedges, and street corners to invite as many as would come. As we dive deeper into this parable ask yourself where you fit in. Consider these aspects of the King’s Wedding Dinner. “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited . . . but they refused to come.” (Matthew 22:1-3) THE SOVEREIGN KING. The king, of course, is God the Father. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. That whosoever believes in him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) THE SON. The banquet is for the king’s son — Jesus. The book of wisdom asks, “Who has established the ends of the earth? What is his name and what is his son’s name?” (Proverbs 30:4) Isaiah prophesied of a virgin born son in Isaiah 6:14. John said, “He came to his own and his own did not receive Him.” (John 1:1-12) THE SUPPER. The king put on a lavish wedding dinner for his son. This signifies the spiritual banquet that satisfies the soul and gives eternal life. (Isaiah 55:1-3,67) Jesus said, “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” (John 6:51-58, 66-69) Jesus was referring to his sacrifice on the cross that made atonement for our sins. Years ago, we had the songwriter Ira Stanphill in our church. He sang a moving

song, “Come home, come home it’s suppertime. The shadows lengthen fast.” By faith and repentance feast on the living bread — Jesus. THE SERVANTS. Every child of God has the privilege and assignment to go out to the highways, byways, hedges, and street corners to invite the “bad as well as the good, as many as would come.” (Matthew 22:10) One evangelist said, “I’m just a hungry beggar inviting other hungry beggars to come to the feast.” The last book in the Bible closes with this appeal, “And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take, the water of life freely.” (Revelation 22:17) Leonard Ravenhill said, “In revival, God is not concerned about filling empty churches, He is concerned about filling empty hearts.” THE SAD CONSEQUENCES OF REJECTING THE KING’S INVITATION. Those who rejected the king and his son and killed his servants were destroyed by the king’s armies. God showers us with grace, but

his holiness demands justice and judgement on sin. (Matthew 22:5-7) When the king visited his wedding guests, he saw a man who was not wearing the provided wedding attire. When the man was asked why, he was without an excuse. He was what I refer to as “some other way people.” The king commanded that he be tied up

hand and foot and be thrown into outer darkness “where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 22:13) The king has provided priceless wedding garments. “These are the ones who come out of great tribulation and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:14)

Belly Fat Is No Mere Cosmetic Concern Men with belly fat may see their growing stomachs as a chiefly cosmetic concern that affects their appearance but not their overall health. But researchers are learning a lot about belly fat, including just how dangerous it can be. According to a recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, increasing stomach fat is associated with worsening heart disease risk factors, including high blood pressure. Research into fat and its connection to heart disease is ongoing, but evidence suggests that fat in the abdominal cavity is particularly dangerous. Why Is Belly Fat So Dangerous? Belly fat does not include just subcutaneous fat, or the layer of padding just below the skin. One of the biggest threats posed by belly fat is that it also includes visceral fat that surrounds the internal organs. Harvard Medical School notes that visceral fat lies deep inside the abdominal cavity, padding the space between a person’s abdominal organs. This type of fat has been linked to metabolic disturbances and increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. What Contributes To Belly Fat? The term “beer belly”

might suggest that only men who drink excessive amounts of beer are at risk of developing unhealthy amounts of belly fat. While drinking too much beer is unhealthy and will result in more belly fat, beer is not the only culprit. The Mayo Clinic notes that aging can play a role in the development of belly fat. Men, especially those who are not physically active, naturally lose muscle as their bodies age. That loss of muscle mass decreases the rate at which the body uses calories, which can make it more difficult to maintain healthy weights and prevent belly fat from developing. That’s one reason why the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion advises men in their 50s to consume roughly 200 fewer calories per day than they did when they were in their 30s. A poor diet also can contribute to belly fat. When choosing protein sources, men should forgo red meat, which can be high in saturated fat, in favor of fish and low-fat dairy products. Harvard Medical School notes that other healthful sources of protein include chicken, turkey, nuts, beans, and whole grains. But even the healthiest diets won’t do much to reduce or prevent belly fat if men also don’t control their portion sizes. When dining out, men can share

plates or decide in advance to eat half their meals and take the rest home. When eating at home, men should not feel obligated to fill or empty their plates. Feeling full or uncomfortable after eating is indicative of overeating. Avoid that feeling and cut down on belly fat by eating healthy portions of healthy foods. How Is Belly Size Determined? Men concerned about belly fat can measure their bellies and discuss belly size with their physicians. The Mayo Clinic offers the following guidelines to measure belly size: • Stand and place a tape

measure around your bare stomach, just above your hip bone. • Pull the tape measure until it fits snugly around you, but doesn’t push into your skin. Make sure the tape measure is level all the way around. • Relax, exhale and measure your waist. Do not suck in your stomach. A waist measurement greater than 40 inches indicates an unhealthy amount of belly fat that can increase a man’s risk for heart disease. Belly fat might mistakenly be viewed as a cosmetic concern, but the consequences of excess belly fat affect far more than a man’s appearance.

3 Benefits Of Core Strength Training

In the last decade, chances are strong competitive athletes, weekend warriors and men and women who routinely exercise have heard of workouts touting the benefits of core-strengthening exercises. Those unfamiliar with core training might think it’s just another exercise fad, unaware of the many practical benefits of a strong core. To understand the benefits of core strength training exercise, it first helps to understand what such exercises are and dispel a common misconception about core training. People unfamiliar with core strength training may mistakenly believe it’s merely a way to sculpt toned abdominal muscles. While core training focuses on muscles in the abdomen, it does not do so exclusively. Proper core strength training focuses on the body’s entire core, including the hips, back and chest as well as the abdomen. The following are three significant ways that athletes and nonathletes alike can benefit from core strength training. 1. Improved Balance While working muscles in the hips, abdomen and back, core strength training is training these muscles to function as a more cohesive unit. This can improve balance, which can prove especially beneficial to aging men and women who may feel like they are losing some of their coordination.

2. Uniformity Of Muscles Men and women who adhere to more traditional strength training workouts may notice certain muscle groups develop more than others, perhaps naturally or because they are willingly or subconsciously focusing on certain areas more than others. For example, a person who enjoys doing bicep curls might develop especially large biceps but may not focus as much on the muscles in his or her back. That can lead to muscular imbalances. Proper core strength training reduces the likelihood of such imbalances because the exercises focus collectively on a group of muscles, training these muscles to work together and developing them at the same pace. 3. Better Posture According to the online medical resource WebMD, core-strengthening exercises are the best way for men and women to improve their posture. That’s because some of the muscles worked during core training move the torso by flexing, extending or rotating the spine, while other muscles worked stabilize the pelvis and spine in a natural, neutral position. The Premier Sports and Spine Center notes that some of the benefits of good posture include lower injury risk, better alignment that can lower risk for arthritis and improved muscle health. Core strength training exercises can pay various dividends that greatly improve adults’ overall health.

Brain-Healthy Habits To Embrace

Cognitive decline is a condition that is often associated with aging, but even middle-aged people can experience memory loss or cognition issues. T h e A l z h e i m e r ’s Association says that more than five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. By 2050, that number could rise to as high as 16 million people. More than 747,000 Canadians are living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, says the Canadian Alzheimer’s Association. Although there is no definitive way to prevent dementia, living a long, vibrant life may be possible by encouraging some healthy habits for the brain. It is never too late or too early to begin health and lifestyle changes. Exercise Becoming more active can improve brain volume, reduce risk for dementia and improve thinking and memory skills. The journal Neurology found that older people who vigorously exercise performed better on cognitive tests than others of the same age, placing them at the equivalent of 10 years younger. Increased blood flow that occurs with physical activity may help generate new neurons in the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved with learning and memory. The Harvard Medical School says aerobic exercise may help improve brain tissue by improving blood flow and reducing the chances of injury to the brain from cholesterol buildup in blood vessels.

also are good for the brain. These include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish-based proteins, unsaturated fats, and foods containing omega-3 fatty acids. Neurologists state that, while research on diet and cognitive function is limited, diets, such as Mediterranean and Mediterranean-DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), may contribute to a lower risk of cognitive issues.

Consume Caffeine Caffeine may help boost memory performance and brain health. A Journal of Nutrition study found people ages 70 and older who consumed more caffeine scored better on tests of mental function than those who consumed less caffeine. Caffeine may help improve attention span, cognitive function and feelings of well-being. Information from Psychology Today also indicates caffeine may help in the storage of dopamine, which can reduce feelings of depression and anxiety.

In addition, compounds in cocoa and coffee beans may improve vascular health and help repair cellular damage due to high antioxidant levels.

Work The Brain Engaging in mentally stimulating activities can create new brain connections and more backup circuits, states Dr. Joel Salinas, a neurologist at Harvardaffiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Working the brain through puzzles, reading and participating in social situations can stimulate the release of brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a molecule essential for repairing brain cells and creating connections between them. A good way to combine these lifestyle factors is to take an exercise class with friends, mixing the social, stimulation and exercise recommendations together. Cognitive decline can come with aging, but through healthy habits, people can reduce their risk of memory loss and dementia.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Your soft-hearted self is drawn to a tempting offer. But your hard-headed half isn’t so sure. Best advice: Do it only after every detail is checked out to your liking. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your inventive mind should help you find a way to get around an apparently impassable barrier and make yourself heard. Your efforts get you noticed by the right people. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You’re enjoying this creative period. But by midweek, you’ll need to emphasize your more pragmatic talents as you consider a risky but potentially lucrative move. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) An unexpected rejection could turn into something positive if you pocket your pride and ask for advice on how you can make changes that will make the difference. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Your Lion’s heart gives you the courage to push for answers to a job-related situation. Stay with it. You’ll soon find more believers coming out the ranks of the doubters. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Your curiosity pays off this week as you push past the gossip to find the facts. What you ultimately discover could lead you to make some changes in your plans. But don’t stay back in the past too long or you might miss seeing the signpost up ahead pointing the way to a new opportunity. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) If you feel you need to take more time to study a situation before making a decision, do so. Don’t let anyone push you into acting until you’re ready. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) As the Great Advice Giver, the Goat really shines this week as family and friends seek your wisdom. Someone especially close to you might make a surprising request. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Spiritual concerns dominate part of the week before more worldly matters demand your attention. An old promise resurfaces with some surprises attached. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) You’re in a highly productive period and are eager to finish all the projects you’ve taken on. doing, we won't have a steel or aluminum industry before long. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with a fair deal for America, and that's what Trump wants. However, on a positive note, this move — in simple words — made him the labor union's Man of Steel when he suggested a 25% tariff on steel imports and a 10% tariff on aluminum imports. And talk about a flip, the battle lines are beginning to form, with some Democrats and labor unions moving toward Trump on this latest move, while he is taking criticism from some Republicans and conservatives. A prime example of this recent flip is Representative Tim Ryan (D-OH) who has a lifetime 98% rating from the AFL-CIO. He had this to say in agreement with Trump's tariff, "I'm very supportive of what the President has done. What China has been doing is bullshit. They’re cheating, they’re subsidizing their product." What Trump is suggesting is a no brainer. Without the steel, iron and aluminum industry "we don't have a country that can protect itself... and certainly it will create good American jobs. For me, this isn't a partisan issue. It's an American issue and America First!! A final note: March 20 is the Illinois primary election. Mark it on your calendar to VOTE! Until next time.

YOUTH T-BALL BASEBALL/SOFTBALL NEW CHANGES IN 2018! ALL PLAYERS IN PINTO LEAGUE AND UP WILL BE CHOSEN THROUGH A BLIND DRAFT!

Have we come to a tipping point when it comes to gun control? Possibly, especially when it comes to assault weapons. I have said in the past I'm 100% for protecting the Second Amendment. In last week's column, I also went so far as to point out some of the problems that I felt were contributing to the gun violence in our country. The issue of banning assault weapons was not among those things. I also firmly believe these suggestions need to be addressed before any changes can or will happen. So with that said, we need to address the real issues causing the problem, and that's not done by banning guns and making it harder for law-abiding citizens to own a gun. But in the meantime, our State Representative of the 1 0 7 t h D i s t r i c t , Jo h n Cavaletto, sent me the fol-

lowing information from the Illinois State Rifle Association, and I felt it was worth sharing. Did you Know? • That the firearms industry pays $129,920,700 in taxes in Illinois. • That the firearms industry provides $639,604,000 in wages to Illinois workers. • That there are 194 manufacturers of firearms and firearm parts in Illinois. • That there are 2,261,593 Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) card holders in Illinois, as of February 14, 2018. • That each FOID card holder goes through 360 background checks per year? That is over 814,173,480 background checks per year (there are no checks done on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, Easter, and the Fourth of July). • That there are 279,955 Illinois Concealed Carry License holders in Illinois? Each one of those goes through an enhanced background check in addition to their FOID background check. That's another 100,789,200 background checks. That is over 914,971,680 background checks on law-abiding gun owners, as of February 14, 2018. It goes up each month because there are more FOID card holders and ICCL licenses.

• That in the United States, firearms are used in self-defense approximately 2,500,000 times per year, or 6,850 times a day. • That every time a firearm is legally purchased in Illinois, whether it is from a dealer, gun show or a private sale, there are background checks performed. In closing on the subject, I'll say it again, no kid needs an AR-15 or any assault weapon. However, a pocket knife could be dangerous in some hands. We can't fix the problem until the real reasons are addressed. On to the media trade war, and yes, I think the liberal media is one-sided on Trump's recent suggested tariff on steel and aluminum. All this talk about hurting America's economy and costing jobs is mind-boggling to me. To start with, the steel, aluminum and iron industry has taken a beating over the years, long before Trump stepped into the oval office. And to push Trump's agenda as per steel and aluminum, tariffs could be helpful. As the liberal media screams, NO, NO, NO, let me point out there will be NO downstream effect on the suggested tariff. Looking at the big picture, the reality is if we keep doing what we're
