Girl Scout Troop Learns About Respecting Authority Girl Scout Troop #8653 discussed respecting authority for their April meeting. The girls were visited by Mr. Wayne Stone, Field School Principal; Casey Hanes and Lynne Mulch, parents of Girl Scouts; and Officer Christina Dreage. All the visitors talked with the troop about how to show and give respect to peers, adults, parents, and authoritarian personnel around them. It was reinforced by all that it's best to give respect in order to get respect from others. STION E U Q OF THE Nothing points out how low the media has stooped than last Saturday night's White House correspondence dinner as WHCD leftist comedian Michelle Wolf trashed Sara Huckabee Sanders' appearance and job performance, mocked Kellyanne Conway, and took cheap shots at Ivanka Trump (among others), but especially at Donald Trump. Amidst the vulgarity, disrespect, unacceptable behavior, and below the belt hits, some of the White House staffers, among others, walked out. Some Sunday morning talk show commentators said they understood why President Trump didn't attend, and Chris Wallace followed with saying, "I'm glad I didn't." When did this kind of crude behavior become acceptable to anyone in this country? This was not done in the name of fun. This event was way beyond a roast. I've always had respect for Sara Sanders, but I have to say what kept her from walking out is beyond my comprehension. I congratulate her for her professionalism. I would like to think I could be that strong.

Youth is wasted on the young.

And of course the extreme liberal celebrities had to add their two cents by accusing Washington of being thin skinned. I personally would call Michelle Wolf 's performance X-rated and 150% unacceptable. Moving on to North Korea, President Donald Trump said over the weekend, "Plans for the North Korean Summit are going well." The relationship between Trump and Kim Jong-un has come a long way, to the point the North Korean leader is talking about reuniting families that have been separated for years with the division on the Korean Peninsula. No matter whether you like Trump or not, he is responsible for bringing forth the meeting and signing of a commitment for peace between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean leader Moon Jae-in. That set bold goals: A final peace and no nuclear arms. Looking back, our leaders have had problems with North Korea for decades, and justifiably so. As I said last week, Trump is the first U.S. President who has had

a positive conversation with a North Korean leader for 60 years, leading to the possibility of peace. Trump's goal is to denuclearize North Korea and restore peace. If he accomplishes this, it will be a historic accomplishment. Yet with all that said, I don't think anyone in the Trump administration is going into the Trump-Kim summit "starry eyed." And let me assure you, the fact remains I'm the first one to say, "Let's not normalize Kim Jong-un. However, I can hope and pray there will be peace between North and South Korea. Some say it won't happen, and possibly they're right. But the same was said about the Berlin Wall that divided East and West Germany for almost 30 years. We a l l r e m e m b e r President Ronald Reagan's famous statement in 1987 during one of his cold war speeches. Reagan challenged Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down" the Berlin Wall, a symbol of the repressive Communist era that divided Germany. And it came to

Wednesday, May 2, 2018 pass. Last and certainly the least — yes you read correctly, THE LEAST — is the liberals' fair haired darling, former FBI Director (20132017) James Comey and his book that I said a few weeks ago should be called The Bad Cop. I've renamed it The Book of Lies. The only people that will buy this book — which in my opinion, money was his sole purpose for writing — are the Trump haters. I find this ironic because they are the same people who blame Comey for Hillary Clinton's loss in 2016 to Trump. I watched Comey on Meet the Press Sunday morning. His responses to questions on the Trump Presidency and the Russian Investigation consisted of: "I can't answer that." "I don't know." "I know it could have changed." "I don't think I can talk about it. "That's a great question." I didn't know I knew the first of October, but I knew on October 17." "I know it could have changed." "Anyone in the FBI that knows what's going on isn't talking." But the best one was when he was asked, "Why didn't your antenna go up with Anthony Wiener and the Hillary Clinton emails?" There was no answer. He avoided the question. And the very best part was when asked about the credibility of the President, he pointed out in so many words the value of the Presidency. This comes from a former FBI Director that gave his "notes" from meetings with the President to a friend, knowing full well they would be given to the press (the New York Times). Rest assured, I won't be buying his book. Leaving you with this: The Senate confirmed Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State after a contentious nomination fight. Just think, Kerry and Clinton passed easily. It shows you it's a sign of the times. Hopefully, he'll move ahead successfully. The Iran nuclear deal deadline is May 12. Food for thought: To date, Trump has made no decision. In a recent survey, 78% of U.S. citizens think the Republicans and Democrats should work together. Only 19% think they do! Until next week.

Property Tax 101

Week 12 Of 13: The Annual Tax Sale By Bob Watt, Jefferson County Treasurer

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Fujiyama Japanese Steak House & Bar was held last Wednesday in Mt. Vernon. The restaurant will be located at 4809 Broadway and will offer Japanese cuisine, sushi and a hibachi grill meal. Targeted opening date will be January 2019. Owner Justin Qiu was joined by Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis, city officials, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce officials and ambassadors, and others in the groundbreaking event. Mr. Qiu (located center in

both photographs) spoke of his excitement in opening a restaurant for Mt. Vernon and the surrounding communities. He has been in Southern Illinois for fifteen

Shopper's Weekly Staff Photos

years with his first restaurant in Carbondale and then expanding with locations in Marion, Effingham and now Mt. Vernon.

After the Treasurer’s Office has followed all state statutes by sending out certified letters and publishing names with unpaid taxes in the newspaper (process is outlined in last week’s lesson), then comes time for the Annual Real Estate Tax Sale. Anyone interested in becoming a tax sale buyer can be put on our list to receive our registration m a i l i n g e a c h y e a r. Registration usually has to be turned in two weeks prior to the sale. Tax sale registration is $250.00, or $100.00 if you are only interested in bidding on one particular property, and the money is given back to you as long as you

show up to the sale. Anyone can register to become a tax sale buyer. Usually, tax sale buyers are businesses that go to several counties in the state or surrounding states, purchasing unpaid taxes in hopes that the owner of the property will redeem the taxes in the County Clerk’s office. When this happens, the tax sale buyer earns interest off the taxes they paid. Sometimes the tax sale buyer is hoping that the owner of a property does not redeem the taxes. The reason for this is so that the tax sale buyer can take ownership and sell the property for a profit. On occasion, citizens register to be tax sale

buyers so that they can take ownership of a piece of property next to their own home. Our office always recommends for anyone without tax sale experience to obtain a lawyer to help with this process. If every step is not followed correctly and any paperwork is not filed properly, then the judge will not grant a tax deed. From the date of the tax sale to the time when the homeowner is at risk of losing their property, usually takes about three years. Next week: What is the Sealed Bid Auction and how does it work?

Words Matter Publishing Gold Shelf By Scott Pinkowski

In the rough and tumble world of book publishing, it's very difficult for a new author to get their foot in the door. Words Matter Publishing, which specializes in finding writing talent in places most publishing houses won't even look, is prepared to change that. The Gold Shelf is a series of unique, handcrafted shelves that will be installed in retail stores and stocked with Words Matter Publishing authors' books to help make them accessible and to build a fan base for new authors. Along with Words Matter Publishing CEO Tammy Koelling, authors on hand at the grand opening were, Deb Obermeier, author of the A Simple Stitch Series; Kathy Mitrano, author of The Gathering Table; and Darral Williams, author of The Last Friend. Authors greeted and chatted with shoppers and talked about their books. Book buyers could spin a wheel for door prizes. Local author Deb Obermeier has published two books in her series, to date, A

Simple Stitch: A Common Thread and A Simple Stitch: A Time To Mend, which tell the story of yarn shop owner Eliza who lives above her shop in the fictional town of Spring Forrest. Along with the changes and challenges of Eliza's and her family's lives, the books are rich with stories from the pasts of the characters which tell of the good ole days. Kathy Mitrano's book, The Gathering Table may look like a simple cookbook at a glance, but it's something much more unique as it includes family photos, stories and even her own photos of the finished

dishes. Darral Williams is the author of The Last Friend, a taut political thriller about how far an investigator named David Squire will go to help an old, dying friend who found himself victim of a bribery scheme. When the investigation leads to people in high places, Squire finds himself on a wild rollercoaster ride with men who will stop at nothing, even murder, to protect their criminal empire. Be Prepared: Red Cross Urges Blood And Platelet Donation This May, the American Red Cross is calling for donors to give blood and platelets regularly to be prepared to meet the needs of patients in emergency situations. Ac c o rd i n g t o t h e National Trauma Institute, trauma accounts for approximately 41 million emergency department visits and 2 million hospital admissions each year. In March 2015, Kevin Frame suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision during spring break. He received blood products to treat internal injuries immediately after the accident and during multiple surgeries while recovering. “Without the blood and plasma products made available from donations, I would not be alive today to continue my rehabilitation journey,” said Frame, who had to relearn to swallow, speak and walk after the accident. Regular blood, platelet and plasma donations help ensure that blood is available at a moment’s notice. In fact, it is the blood on the shelves that is used to help save lives at the time of an accident or sudden illness. In trauma situations, when there’s no time to check a patient’s blood type, emergency personnel reach for type O negative red blood cells and type AB plasma because they can be transfused to any patient, regardless of blood type. Less than 7 percent of the population has type O negative blood, and only about 4 percent of the

population has type AB blood. Platelets may also be needed to help with clotting in cases of massive bleeding. Because platelets must be transfused within five days of donation, there is a constant – often critical – need to keep up with hospital demand. Donors of all blood types are urged to roll up a sleeve this May to help meet the needs of trauma patients and others with serious medical conditions. Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). All those who come to donate from April 9 to May 13, 2018, will be entered to win one of three $1,000 gift cards to a national home improvement retailer, courtesy of Suburban Propane. (Restrictions apply. More details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/LetsDo-More.) Upcoming blood donation opportunities May 1-26: Franklin County: May 14, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m., Whittington Church, 200 Main Street, Whittington. May 21, 3 p.m. - 7 p.m., Heritage Woods, 1305 Bailey Lane, Benton. May 24, 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1 West Frankfort Plaza, West Frankfort. May 25, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m., Seventh Day Adventist School, 3608 Angel Lane, Thompsonville.

My 16, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m., St Peter United Church of Christ, 106 West Church, Okawville. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are requ i re d at c h e c k - i n . Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Arthritis Linked To Another Condition

What Is Psoriatic Arthritis?

P

eople who see dermatologists for the skin condition psoriasis should not take the presence of joint aches and pains lightly, as the two

things might be connected. The National Psoriasis Foundation notes that psoriasis is a precursor to psoriatic arthritis in 30 percent of patients.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that affects the rate of skin cell reproduction. People with psoriasis may experience redness, itchiness and raised bumps (plaques) of skin on various areas of their bodies. Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic form of arthritis that typically occurs in people with skin psoriasis, but also can be present in those without the skin condition, but particularly among those who have relatives with psoriasis. The American College of Rheumatology says that psoriatic arthritis typically affects the large

joints, especially the lower extremities, distal joints of the fingers and toes and the back and sacroiliac joints of the pelvis. Early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of psoriatic arthritis are crucial to relieving inflammation and preventing permanent joint damage.

Symptoms

Symptoms of psoriatic arthritis can develop gradually or quickly, and some symptoms can be severe. NPF indicates that common symptoms of psoriatic arthritis include • morning stiffness and tiredness; • tenderness, pain and swelling over tendons;

5

• swollen fingers and toes; • reduced range of motion; • nail changes, including pitting, and • redness and pain in the eyes. Symptoms of psoriatic arthritis are similar to rheumatoid arthritis, gout and reactive arthritis. Doctors will rule out other symptoms that may be indicative of those conditions. The American College of Rheumatology also indicates that psoriatic arthritis is typically blood test negative. The diagnosis is typically made by a rheumatologist after reviewing a clinical history and performing a physical exam.

Treatment

Doctors will need to assess symptoms before deciding on a course of treatment. Mild cases may respond to over-thecounter, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen. However, antirheumatic drugs and newer biologic drugs may be prescribed to treat more aggressive cases of psoriatic arthritis. Corticosteroid injections can be useful for swollen joints, and surgery may be necessary to repair badly damaged joints. Individuals who suspect their arthritis may be linked to psoriasis can first speak with a dermatologist or primary care physician. The NPF also offers a screening tool at www.psoriasis.org/psascreening.

3 Benefits Of Core Strength Training

I

n the last decade, chances are strong competitive athletes, weekend warriors and men and women who routinely exercise have heard of workouts touting the benefits of core-strengthening exercises. Those unfamiliar with core training might think it’s just another exercise fad, unaware of the many practical benefits of a strong core. To understand the benefits of core strength training exercise, it first helps to understand what such exercises are and dispel a common misconception about core training. People unfamiliar with core strength training may mistakenly believe it’s merely a way to sculpt toned abdominal muscles. While core training focuses on muscles in the abdomen, it does not do so exclusively. Proper core strength training focuses

on the body’s entire core, including the hips, back and chest as well as the abdomen. The following are three significant ways that athletes and nonathletes alike can benefit from core strength training.

1. Improved Balance

While working muscles in the hips, abdomen and back, core strength training is training these muscles to function as a more cohesive unit. This can improve balance, which can prove especially beneficial to aging men and women who may feel like they are losing some of their coordination.

2. Uniformity Of Muscles

Men and women who adhere to more traditional strength training workouts may notice certain muscle groups develop

more than others, perhaps naturally or because they are willingly or subconsciously focusing on certain areas more than others. For example, a person who enjoys doing bicep curls might develop especially large biceps but may not focus as much on the muscles in his or her back. That can lead to muscular imbalances. Proper core strength training reduces the likelihood of such imbalances because the exercises focus collectively on a group of muscles, training these muscles to work together and developing them at the same pace.

3. Better Posture

According to the online medical resource WebMD, core-strengthening exercises are the best way for men and women to improve their posture. That’s because some of the muscles worked during

People who have internal cardiac defibrillators also may be at greater risk of heart attack or stroke due to air pollution. While it’s common to assume that air pollution is only a problem for people who live in large cities, the American Heart Association warns against making such assumptions, noting that air pollution can be traced to a host of sources, including wildfires and cooking with wood stoves, that can be found outside

Air Quality And Heart Health ccording to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, studies have shown that air pollution can trigger heart attacks and strokes. The threat posed by air pollution is greater among people who have or have had coronary artery disease, angina, heart attack, bypass surgery or an angioplasty, heart failure, stroke or transient ischemic attack, or blockages in the arteries of the neck or legs.

core training move the torso by flexing, extending or rotating the spine, while other muscles worked stabilize the pelvis and spine in a natural, neutral position. The Premier Sports and Spine Center notes that some of the benefits of good posture include lower injury risk, better alignment that can lower risk for arthritis and improved muscle health. Core strength training exercises can pay various dividends that greatly improve adults’ overall health.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Don’t waste your time and energy fretting over remarks you consider unnecessary or unkind. Best advice: Ignore them, and just keep doing your usual good job. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Getting that new perspective on a workplace situation could lead to a solution everyone will accept. Meanwhile, make time to keep up with your creative pursuits. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Those changes you planned to implement in early summer might need to be reassessed. But don’t make any moves until you’ve discussed this with someone you trust. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Your aspects favor harmony, making this a good time to work out problems in relationships -- whether personal or professional, big or small. An old friend comes back. LEO (July 23 to August 22) While you’re still riding that high-powered beam, you might begin to lose focus by week’s end. Could be that you’ll need to do a little cat-napping to restore your spent energies. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) An unexpected development creates a lot of excitement. Where it takes you is your decision. Check out the possibilities, then decide if you want to go with it or not. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Although your supporters help you squash an unfair claim against

you, don’t let this go unchallenged. You need to learn more about the motives of those behind it. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) There still are some tasks to clear up by midweek. Then you can welcome the new month on a high note. A friend brings surprising but very welcome news. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) You might want to change your plans before they’re set in cement. Consider advice from colleagues. But remember that, ultimately, it’s your choice. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A difficult situation is working itself out. Lingering problems should be resolved by week’s end, allowing the Goat to enjoy a calmer, less stressful period. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Be careful not to move so quickly that you miss possible warning signs that could upset your plans. Slow down. Your supporters will continue to stand by you. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Your generosity in sharing your time and wisdom with others leads to an intriguing development that could have you considering some interesting choices. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a way of influencing people to be and do their best. You would make an excellent teacher. © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.

DEAR CONCERNED: While you're right about letting dogs run loose in the street being a safety issue, calling the offender out by name in the neighborhood newsletter is not the way to go. It sounds like the head of the association didn't explain all the reasons why it's a bad idea. For one thing, singling out a neighbor by name — even if that person is the only one letting their dogs run off leash — can have legal ramifications for the association. That can get expensive. Even if things don't get that heated, that neighbor

probably knows that you write the newsletter, and you could become the target of their ire. Talk to the association head face-to-face or by email and ask what can be done to address this issue. Chances are, the neighbor has already been notified by the ass o ciat ion. Anot her option is for the association head or the directors to remind everyone at the regular meeting, without singling anyone out. Or, a notice can be put in the newsletter that also does not single out any residents — one that reminds everyone of the association rules or any relevant city ordinances. I know you want to act more quickly, but you're working as part of a group of neighbors. So work with them to address this problem.

Cooking With Lizzie

Let's Taco About Tacos What a switch, from southern to Mexican, both delicious! I love Mexican food, especially tacos, which seems to be many Americans' favorite. However, instead of calling for the traditional hard shell taco, use fresh flour tortillas just for a change. It's different but so good and easier to eat. Fold in one end to keep all the goodness inside. Go ahead and enjoy!

Soft Beef Tacos

1 lb. ground beef 1 small onion, minced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 green pepper, chopped 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced 1 cup water 1 tsp. ground cumin 1 tsp. chili powder 1/2 tsp. dried whole oregano

1/4 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 8 (7") flour tortillas 2 cups shredded lettuce 2 tomatoes, chopped 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese 1 (8 oz.) carton commercial guacamole Commercial taco or picante sauce

Cook first 5 ingredients in large skillet until meat is browned, stirring to crumble; drain well. Stir in water, cumin, chili powder, oregano, salt, and pepper; cover and simmer over low heat 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Uncover and cook 8 to 10 minutes. Wrap tortillas securely in aluminum foil; bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Spoon about one-eighth of meat mixture lengthwise down center of a tortilla. Top with about one-eighth each of lettuce, tomato, cheese, guacamole, and desired amount of taco sauce. Fold bottom third of tortilla over filling. Fold sides of tortilla in toward center, leaving top open. Secure with wooden picks, if necessary. Repeat with remaining tortillas and fillings. Serve with additional taco sauce, if desired. Yield: 8 tacos.

Deep Dish Taco Squares

2 cups biscuit mix 1/2 cup cold water 1 lb. ground beef 1 green pepper, chopped 2 T. chopped onion 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

1 (8 oz.) carton sour cream 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese 1/3 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing Paprika

Combine biscuit mix and water, stirring with fork until blended. Press mixture in bottom of lightly greased 12x8x2" baking dish. Bake at 375° for 9 minutes. Cook ground beef, green pepper, and onion in large skillet until meat is browned, stirring to crumble meat; drain well. Stir in tomato sauce; spoon over crust. Combine sour cream, cheese, and mayonnaise in medium bowl; spoon over meat mixture. Sprinkle top evenly with paprika. Bake at 375°, uncovered, for 25 minutes or until casserole is lightly browned. Cut into squares to serve. Yield: 6 servings.

Taco Biscuit Bites 1/4 cup commercial taco sauce 1/ 4 cup milk 1/2 tsp. dried onion flakes

2 cups biscuit mix 2 tsp. butter or margarine, melted 2 T. grated Parmesan cheese

Combine first 3 ingredients in large bowl; let stand 5 minutes. Add biscuit mix, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface, and knead 4 or 5 times. Roll dough to 1/2" thickness; cut with 1½" biscuit cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Brush tops with butter, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake at 450° for 8 to 10 minutes or until biscuits are lightly browned. Serve immediately. Yield: about 1½ dozen. Note: Dough may be chilled 2 hours before baking, if desired. *** If you have a favorite recipe and want to share it with us, just send it in c/o The Shopper's Weekly, P.O. RE-ARRANGEMENT POSITIONS YOU TO BE TAKEN TO A HIGHER RANGE. Peter had prejudices and traditions that needed to be rearranged by God. Peter being a Jew was prejudiced against Gentiles. As Peter prayed on a rooftop deck while awaiting lunch, God gave him a vision that rearranged his life and brought revival to the church. (Acts 10:9-23) In the vision he saw a sheet let down from heaven full of unclean animals. God spoke, “Arise Peter, kill and eat.” Peter, being a Jew, refused to kill and eat an unclean animal. Three times God gave Peter the same vision with the same command. God’s message was clear. “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” (Acts 10:14) Perhaps, like Peter, there are prejudices or tradi-

Going To A Higher Range People tend to be stuck in a rut and satisfied in their comfort zones and traditions. One of the tasks of a shepherd or a rancher is to move the sheep or cattle to a higher range at certain seasons. The higher range lands are where the fresh, lush meadows are. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, leads us to a higher range in “paths of righteousness.” For God to take you to a higher range you must be willing to be re-arranged. The story of Peter and Cornelius teaches us how God re-arranges our lives to take us to a higher range of restoration and revival. (Acts 10) REWARDS COME TO THOSE WHO PRAY AND GIVE. Cornelius

was commander of a regiment called, “The Italian Band.” “A devout man and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people and prayed to God always.” (Acts 10:1-2) Generous giving to God and the needy opens one’s heart. Consistent prayer opens heaven for God’s blessings. “But without faith it’s impossible to please him; for he that comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) Cornelius was greatly rewarded as he sought God constantly in prayer. Are you seeking God? God is fixing the broken pieces in your life. Get ready for restoration. God is preparing you for everything you have prayed for.

2. Which gospel does not contain the Olivet prophecy? Matthew, Mark, Luke, John 3. The prophecy of Obadiah is basically about what nation? Shem, Edom, Tabor, 1. Is the book of Hosea Nebo 4. Who said "Rabbi," in the Old or New a n d k i s s e d Je s u s ? Testament or neither?

tions that must be rearranged or readjusted in your life for God to take you to a higher range of God’s blessings. Worship God – Love people. RELENTLESS FAITH WILL TAKE YOU TO A HIGHER RANGE of refreshing and revival. (Acts 10:19-22) Peter had to act upon the vision and word from the Lord. The Spirit revealed to Peter that three men would be knocking on his door. He was not to hesitate to go with them to Cornelius’ house to share the gospel of Christ with his household. When the Spirit of God speaks to you, don’t hesitate to step out in faith and obedience, “doubting nothing.” (Acts 10:20) Faith and obedience to the voice of the Spirit sets in motion the miracle work of God. RECOUNTING THE GOSPEL prepares the

heart for revival. When Peter arrived at Cornelius’ house, he shared to good news of the cross of Christ and his resurrection. (Acts 10:25-44) The apostle Paul declared that the gospel of Christ alone is “the power of God unto salvation for the Jew first and for the Greek.” (Romans 1:16) Only the cross of Christ can restore your soul and prepare you for a higher range of the blessings of God. REVIVAL COMES TO THIRSTY HEARTS. Revival is not about filling empty pews - it’s about filling thirsty and hungry hearts. (Acts 10:33) As Peter preached the gospel of Christ, “The Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.” (Acts 10:44) Peter and the Jewish believers were astonished. “And those who believed were astonished . . . because

the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.” (Acts 10:44-47) Many times God must rearrange our hearts and our traditions and doctrines before he can take us to a higher range of revival. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was called “the gift.” (Acts 10:45) The gift of the Holy Spirit is for all believers, Jew and Gentile. Have you been stuck or satisfied in your comfort zone and traditions? God has so much more for you. Let the Lord rearrange your heart and lead you to the higher ranges of his blessings.
