It was a major evening of news on Wednesday, May 9, the day three American prisoners were released from North Korea and turned over to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo; Trump pulled out of the Iran deal; and Iran fired missiles from Syria at Israel in retaliation for Trump's decision to pull out. So what does CNN focus on all evening? Stor my D aniels and Michael Cohen. In timing the seven o'clock hour, Daniels / Cohen got 55 minutes, the Korean prisoners release got 3 minutes, missiles over Israel got 2 minutes. For those of you that keep watching the Clinton News Network (CNN), stop drinking the Kool Aid. My new name for CNN is "Carry No News." Unfortunately, I have to watch everything from CNN to Fox News and everything in between in order to write this column. But I decided to watch CNN all Wednesday evening, because with the major news that was breaking, I had to believe for a change they would at least do some real news. But, needless to say, they didn't. But with that said I'll leave it there. This is a new day for America. In one day, President Donald Trump accomplished more than former President Barack Obama did in eight years. On to the Obama deal

with Iran. According to the New York Times, Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran included the release of three American prisoners and also a U.S. payment of $1.7 billion. The money paid was because the U.S. froze Iranian assets in 1979. This included $400 million for military hardware that was never delivered to Iran. So we paid $400 million plus interest, for a grand total of $1.7 billion. The New York Times story doesn't explain why the $400 million was a cash payment and whether or not the remaining money was in cash also? Nor did it explain who the cash went to except to say "elected officials." One thing I'll say, it was a very convoluted deal with a lot of questions still remaining. Yet Obama and Clinton have tried to give Trump advice on how to negotiate with Iran, as John Kerry (in my book, a traitor) is advising Iran how to deal with America. Imagine that! Shades of Vietnam! In my opinion, Obama's Iran deal is where it belongs: Dead. But of course, Obama criticized Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran deal. In my opinion, that's because it was one of Obama's few signature deals, one of his foreign policy achievements according to some, as mis-

guided and irresponsible as it was. However, I have to point out I've never heard a former President question and try to interfere as much as the Obamas have. I call that sore losers, and no they weren't running, but their girl was! Next up, another top story of the week was the five ISIS leaders captured that no network reported on but Fox News. So again, by not listening to Fox as well, you're missing some news. Turning to North Korea, the Kim / Trump Summit is set for June 11 in Singapore. On to three prisoners released from North Korea. There was no money that changed hands, no promises were made. Trump asked for their release, and Kim Jong-un released them in good faith. If Obama would have pushed for their release, possibly four would have been returning instead of an American family burying their son a few days after his release under Obama. Yet while Pompeo was going to get the hostages last Wednesday, the New York Times ran a story with the headline "At a Key Moment, Trump’s Top Diplomat Is Again Thousands of Miles Away." Up next, many don't even know that Iran was firing missiles at Israel last week in retaliation, but trust, Israel has the capability to protect itself. However, Trump has said Israel's enemies are our enemies. And to that I say, Amen! The bottom line is, this administration has done more in eight days than the last administration did in eight years. Do I think the Trump haters will change? No, they won't, sorry to say. But in spite of that, Trump will succeed and fulfill his promises! I do hope the liberal media goes back to reporting real news. I have to stay optimistic. Until next week. To comment on this or any column in The Shopper’s Weekly, please mail to: Editor, P.O. Directions to the shelter are as follows: Turn south at the intersection of Hwy. 161 E. (McCord) and Airport Rd. Go 1-1/2 miles, then turn left on Copple Rd. Go 1/2 mile to Woods Lane, turn left to shelter on left. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper 1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
Cook bacon in large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, reserving 2 T. drippings in skillet. Add potatoes and onions to bacon drippings; cook over high heat until lightly browned. Drain excess bacon drippings. Add chicken broth. Bring to boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Add mushrooms, and cook, uncovered, over high heat, stirring constantly, until liquid evaporates. Stir in bacon, salt, pepper, and parsley. Yield: 6 servings. Note: Rather than peeling the entire potato, a small ring may be peeled around the center of the potato. *** If you have a favorite recipe and want to share it with us, just send it in c/o The Shopper's Weekly, P.O. Box 1223, Centralia, IL 62801 or email to: info@theshoppersweekly.com, (Subject - ATTN: Lizzie) Also, if you have a household problem, like a stubborn stain or a kitchen conundrum, drop us a line, our readers just might have your solution! I'm also interested in your general decorating or household tips. Send your message in a bottle and we might just publish it and enlighten our readers! Until next week, Au Revoir! —Elizabeth Fenton

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Taking advice isn’t always easy for selfassured Rams and Ewes who think they know what’s best. But it wouldn’t hurt to listen to what close colleagues have to say. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You know how to balance life’s practical aspects with the poetic. This gives you a special edge this week in both your professional endeavors and your personal life. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Focus on keeping a balance between your home-related activities and your workplace responsibilities. Be mindful of both without obsessing over one or the other. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A change in plans is likely as you discover more facts about a possible commitment. Continue to ask questions and, if you’re not sure about the answers, demand proof. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Be careful not to let that Leonine pride keep you from seeking wise, experienced counsel before making an important decision. A family member once again seeks your help. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) That surge of Virgo energy drives you to take on more work assignments. Be careful you don’t overdo it, or you might find yourself overdone: i.e., burned out. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Your decision to be upfront with colleagues on a touchy matter causes
some consternation at first. But in the end, your honesty wins their trust and admiration. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) As in the past, someone again wants to share a secret with you, knowing it will be safe. But do you really want to be this person’s confidante? Think about it. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) As one of nature’s straight shooters, you seek to correct misconceptions about a project. Do so, of course, but without giving away too much too soon. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Creative pursuits continue to be strong in the gifted Goat’s aspect. New friendships can come from sharing these experiences with like-minded art aficionados. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Resolve lingering grumblings over your way of doing things by keeping your mind open to suggestions while continuing to show how your plans will work. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) The perceptive Piscean might find that changing course in midstream isn’t as workable as it would seem. Explore this option carefully before making a decision. BORN THIS WEEK: Your willingness to share your love of life’s good things brings joy to many, including, of course, yourself. © 2017 King Features Synd., Inc.

'Jeweled' Porcelain The "jeweled" Coalport porcelain of the late 19th century attracts buyers with its beauty and unfamiliar beading, but few know the history of the porcelain. Coalport porcelain was first made in England in 1795. In the late 19th century, a new type of porcelain vases, teaware, boxes and other ornamental wares were created. It was hand decorated with small colored "beads" of glaze, as well as sections with simulated gems like moonstones or emeralds. These pieces were very expensive when compared to the useful wares made before that time. In 1895, Coalport was able to make the jeweled porcelains by a less-expensive method, and more pieces were sold. Collectors have favored these pieces since the 1950s, and prices are high today. At a 2016 Skinner auction in Boston, which included over 60 pieces of this type of Coalport, a round covered box, just 2 1/2 inches in diameter, brought $461. The box has turquoise beading and a central medallion. A twohandled shaped bowl with a cover sold for about $1,000 at the same sale. *** Q: Back in the day, many brides selected a pattern of sterling-silver flatware. Today those sets of silver aren't used and are a problem for the families that inherit them. This is the dilemma I am facing. How do we get rid of the flatware? I have two sets of sterling silver flatware and additional items. How do I find a reliable and safe way to sell the flatware, either for the value of the set or for the value of the silver? I have a set of Meadow Rose by Wallace and a set of Oneida's Damask Rose. I also have miscellaneous pieces such as salt and pepper, candlesticks and cutlery. A: Sterling silver is always worth at least the meltdown value, and there are shops that buy silver and gold to melt down, but you also can sell silver flatware to a matching service. Many are listed online. Search for "matching service silver" or "matching service silver plate." Expect to get about half what it will
