Grilled Lamp Chops & Veggies There's nothing better than a simple, savory barbecue that features rosemary lamb chops with grilled fresh veggies like pattypan squash, red and yellow peppers, corn on the cob, or whatever happens to be your favorite veggie. Small rosemary sprigs garnish each chop. I also use a larger sprig to brush on the basting sauce. Enjoy.

In all seriousness, what do I care more about? A tape from a worthless, unethical attorney, consisting of nothing illegal, about an alleged affair that President Trump had prior to becoming the President? Or Hillary Clinton's 33,000 emails, some classified, that she destroyed, Benghzai, selling 20% of U.S. uranium to Russia? Or Bill Clinton's affair with a 21-year-old, starry-eyed intern in the Oval Office? Wow! But what's in the major news? Who Trump slept with. Who cares! North Korea is dismantling nuclear weapons, the U.S. military veterans' bodies are being returned home to their families from North Korea, the GDP is 4.1%, the unemployment rate is at its lowest. That's news. How can the Republican establishment and the Democrats condone the negative focus in today's news? Is it all about Washington politics? Vote them out! Then to top it off, there are some saying that Trump's behavior is impeachable. Really? You simply can't fix stupid! But let's move on to the tape, which Michael Cohen — Trump's longtime attorney and friend — recorded without Trump's knowledge, which happens to be reason to disbar Cohen. My question is, how did the media get this said tape — with a discussion on how to pay this alleged participant in this alleged affair — from the FBI? Oh, it must have been a

leak, and no one knows! Some will say Donald Trump said it was okay to release it. Can you see an ethical FBI doing that, even if Trump okayed it? So where will all this go? Well, there will be more tapes, more press, and more money spent. And in the end, nothing will happen. It just gives the Democrats something to use to sidestep what's really happening and the positive issues being resolved. But on to another hot story for CNN, ABC, CBS, and the rest of the corrupt media: It's back to the Russian investigation. Now it's being reported that Donald Trump, Jr. lied, that he did meet with the Russians, and that President Trump knew it. And who says so? Well, of course, the law attorney Michael Cohen. Yes, the one and only, Donald Trump's former attorney. This alleged meeting was supposed to take place at the Trump Tower and then they went to a fundraiser together. President Trump wasn't around. So where does all this go? Again, nowhere. In the end, if the moment comes that the President does find out that his son met and went to a fundraiser with a Russian, so what! But let's look at (in my opinion) possible collusion, tampering and illegal activity. The fact is the attorney that is now handling Michael Cohen's legal problems is none other than Lanny Davis, the very same attorney that

was Bill and Hillary Clinton's longtime personal friend, confidant, and attorney for over 30 years. He's the same one that steered Bill Clinton through his antics with Monica Lewinski. He also served as special console to the White House, was a lobbyist, and was the spokesman for Clinton and White House matters concerning campaign finance investigations and other legal issues. In other words, he was in bed (so to speak) with the Clintons. And I'm supposed to take anything to heart and believe it, where the Clintons are involved. Folks, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out! The sad thing is people like U.S. Rep. Adam Shifty (Oh, I mean Adam Schiff ), of course, a member of the Democratic Party in California, by pushing this new agenda of the Party is hanging the party out to dry. I don't see how the house of cards (Obama, the Clintons, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and others) can keep going. It's time they start crumbling! But for years I've wondered how the Clintons are not behind bars. Oh, the webs they weave Until next week. To comment on this or any column in The Shopper’s Weekly, please mail to: Editor, P.O. Over $100,000 In ‘Fire Safety Grants’ To Benefit Bond, Fayette, And Marion Counties State Representative John Cavaletto (R-Salem), is pleased that four communities in his district will receive Small Firefighting and Ambulance Service Equipment Grants as part of this year’s Small Equipment Grant Program announced this week. Grants totaling $101,273.55 are being awarded as follows: Bond County: Shoal Creek Fire Protection District- $25,657.55 and Mulberry Grove Fire District$25,485; Fayette County: Brownstown Fire Protection District- $24,451; and Marion County: Kell Community Fire Protection District- $25,680. "These grants are important for our rural areas in Illinois to be able to provide lifesaving services to our residents,” said Rep. John Cavaletto, Co-Chair of the Legislative Fire Caucus. “I encourage other fire protection districts and ambulance services to apply for these

grants to keep equipment upto-date and help protect those who protect us.” One hundred fire departments and nonprofit ambulance services across the state received grants for the purchase of safety equipment, protective clothing, breathing apparatus and other needed tools. The money for this grant c om e s f rom t h e F i re Prevention Fund. The grants total $2.2 million, with each recipient receiving up to $26,000. "This year we had over 400 fire departments from across the state apply for a grant," State Fire Marshal Matt Perez said. "The requests for grants totaled over $9 million. We had $2.2 million in funds to award and we ensured that the neediest stations across the state received the money to ensure the safety of the men and women that protect their cities. It is imperative that we continue to find ways to aid

the men and women that respond first in a disaster and always put the lives of others before their own." This year, research conducted by the Illinois Fire Ser vice Institute (IFSI) Research Center led OSFM to evaluate new needs. The research on cardiovascular and chemical exposure risks faced by firefighters prompted the inclusion of gear washers as acceptable purchases in this year's grant application cycle. Most Illinois fire departments, fire protection districts, township fire departments, and stand-alone, nonprofit ambulance service providers were eligible to apply. All fire department, fire protection district and township fire department applicants were required to have participated in the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) for a minimum of two years prior to applying.

EAGLE LIFE

Ministries by: Cliff Sanders

The Shepherd’s Psalm The world is in turmoil and endeavors to subject our soul to stress, fear, and depression. The enemy of your soul will try to strike fear into your heart. I saw a Facebook post that maintains that 70% of stress could be relieved with the scent of oranges. If that were true, I think I would be handing out oranges on Sundays. I have good news — there is something tried and true that will relieve your stress, heal your soul, and defeat fear. It is absolute trust in the love and care of the Good Shepherd — the Lord Jesus Christ. David, an experienced shepherd, gave us a revelation of the Lord his Shepherd. Consider this line by line insight of the Good Shepherd’s care as we consider the Shepherd’s Psalm found in Psalm 23. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD speaks of RELATIONSHIP. A good shepherd had a loving relationship with his sheep. Jesus referred

to himself as the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. (John 10:11) He is the door/gate into the eternal sheepfold. The Lord Jehovah, “the self-existent one, desires a personal relationship with you. “My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. (John 10:27-28) He knows you by name. You need not fear when the Lord is your shepherd. I SHALL NOT WANT speaks of SUPPLY. Sheep under the care of a bad shepherd are in want. It saddens me to see animals abused or neglected. The Lord is the Good Shepherd. He supplies all our needs. (Philippians 4:19) Many times he delights in blessing us with surprises that some call “Christmas in July. God revealed himself to Abraham as Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides. The greatest provision is God’s sacrifice for sin. Jesus laid down his life for the sheep by death on a cross. Why be in want if the Lord is your

shepherd? Believe his promise, “He that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? (Romans 8:22) HE MAKES ME LIE DOWN IN GREEN PASTURES speaks of REST. Sheep that are fearful or attacked by pests will not lie down and rest. The Good Shepherd gives rest and fellowship. “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28-29) It’s a “rest unto your soul. It’s a rest of faith. (Isaiah 26:3-4) I had a t-shirt that said, “It’s all good. It’s all good when the Lord is your Shepherd. HE LEADS ME BESIDE STILL WATERS speaks of REFRESHMENT. Sheep will not drink from a fast-flowing stream. Jesus declared, “If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38) John gives us this postscript, “But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive. (John 7:39) Don’t be dehydrated and weak. Come and drink deeply of this living water the Good Shepherd offers. HE RESTORES MY

SOUL speaks of HEALING. Shepherds use oil on wounds to bring healing. Isaiah prophesied of Christ the healer. “For he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5) The Good Shepherd desires to restore spirit, soul, and body. The ladies at Primrose Hill Adult and Teen Challenge Center make a beauty and health lotion called “Restore. The dictionary defines restore as, “to give back, to put back into use or service, to put or bring back into a former or original state, to put back again in possession of something. David declares, “He restores my soul. (Psalm 23:3) John, the beloved, reveals God’s will of restoration, “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. (III John 2) The Good Shepherd provides wholeness for your body, soul, and spirit. Is the Lord your shepherd? Come to him today and find rest for your soul. (Matthew 11:28) (To be continued.) Shalom, Cliff Sanders Eagle Life Ministries eagleslife8@gmail.com

When the Centralia Rotary Club met last week, Rose Aldag-McVey of SSM Health introduced the guest speaker, Dr. William Dunn, who is a board certified Radiation Oncologist. Dr. Dunn graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed a residency at McGill University. Dr. Dunn spoke on behalf of the SSM Health Cancer Program and the cancer services offered at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. As a Commission of Cancer accredited program, they provide patients with the latest advances in cancer treatment as well as a supportive team of boardcertified oncologists, specialists and nurse navigators to help you at every step. They do community outreach with self-exam booths at community events, provide education at local ACS Relay for Life, promote screening for skin cancer, stool samples, blood pressure, reduced rate blood tests, high body mass index, memor y screening, and fall risk assessments are present at Senior Health Fairs.

They help with insurance, finding doctors, post care plans, and transportation. If there is any good cancer news, it’s that on the screening and treatment front there have been amazing updates to radiation oncology to improve accuracy to help the Radiation Oncologists successfully find and treat tumors discovered in difficult places; and many new noninvasive tests are being approved.

It’s all about survival and quality of life. The key to surviving is catching a cancer early. Their screening capabilities — which include MRI, ultrasound, CT and PET/CT imaging devices — help them find cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. They have a new MRI machine with a larger bore (hole) that is bigger and more comfortable (open MRIs are not as accurate), and a new CT scan with a 64-slice laser system which gives them a much sharper picture. They use a multidisciplinary approach with specialists from surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, laboratory, radiation, cardiology, dermatology, gynecology, hematology, etc. all working together to discuss cases and patient treatment options. Then there are the people who make up the support systems — pastoral care, nutrition counseling, cancer rehabilitation, palliative care, social services, hospice, pet therapy, cancer support groups, and the patient navigator. Balloon Fest 2018 Major Sponsors

Every year the Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce and the volunteer Balloon Fest Committee members work hard to bring Balloon Fest to our community, but they can’t do it alone. Along with all the

hard work that comes with organizing an event of this size, someone has to step up to the plate and donate products, services, and money to support it. Some donors sponsor balloons, balloon pilots, or spe-

cific activities; some make small monetary donations; others make very large donations. It all adds up, but the sponsors are critical to the success of the event. Pictured here are some of the major sponsors of Balloon Fest

2018. Be sure to thank them for their contribution to this year’s edition of the annual fun-filled family-oriented festival we know as Balloon Fest.

A strong immune system can go a long way toward ensuring one’s overall health. But bolstering one’s immune system is no small task, as even medical researchers admit there is still much to learn about the links between lifestyle and immune function. The Harvard Medical School notes that a strongly functioning immune

system requires balance and harmony. So it stands to reason that a highly unhealthy lifestyle will compromise the immune system, but it’s also worth noting that pushing the body too hard in the other direction also can adversely affect immune function. Researchers continue to study the potential links between immune response and variables such as diet, exercise, age, and psychological stress. Though studies are ongoing, the Harvard Medical School notes that the immune system is bolstered by various strategies associated with healthy living. • Don’t smoke. Smoking is linked to a host of diseases and ailments, so it’s no surprise that it also compromises the immune system. The National Cancer Institute notes that cigarette smoke contains high levels of tar and other chemicals, which compromise the immune system’s ability to effectively combat infections. The effects of smoking on the immune system are both immediate and long-term. Smokers’ immune systems may not be able to fend off common infections like the common cold as effectively as the immune systems of nonsmokers. And over time, as smokers keep smoking, their immune systems will continue to weaken, which the NCI says makes them more vulnerable to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. • Eat a healthy diet. There is no magical food or foods that can strengthen the immune system to a point where infection is impossible. However, the

Cleveland Clinic notes that a balanced, healthy diet that includes a mix of vitamins and minerals plays a role in strengthening the immune system. Fresh fruits and vegetables contain a bevy of vitamins and antioxidants that help the immune system fight off potential infections. Many people bemoan the absence of fresh fruits and vegetables at their local grocery stores during certain times of the year. But the Cleveland Clinic notes that manufacturers typically free frozen fruits and vegetables at peak ripeness. That means frozen fruits and vegetables provide similar nutrition to fresh fruits and vegetables during those times of year when foods are not in-season. • Exercise regularly. Like

a healthy diet, routine exercise provides a host of benefits, and one such benefit is its impact on the immune systems. The U.S. National Librar y of Medicine notes that the pre cis e relat ionship between exercise and immune system function remains a mystery. Some researchers suspect that physical activity may flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways, reducing one’s risk of getting a cold, flu or other illness. Another theory suggests that exercises causes changes in white blood cells, which the immune system uses to fight disease. These exerciserelated changes may make it possible for the cells to detect illnesses earlier than they would if the body was not exercised regularly. While it’s important to note that these are just theories, the Harvard Medical School suggests that it’s reasonable to consider moderate regular exercise an important component of a healthy, immune-boosting lifestyle. • Don’t buy the hype. Men and women interested in boosting their immune systems will no doubt find many products claiming to do just that. The Harvard Medical School urges consumers to be skeptical of such products, many of which make dubious claims that are not rooted in recognized scientific research. The immune system remains a mystery in many ways. But several healthy strategies may help people bolster their immune systems and potentially reduce their risk of infection.

How Common Is Carpal Tunnel? Increased hours spent on computer keyboards and digital devices can put people at risk for a relatively common and oftentimes painful condition that affects mobility in the wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome, or CTS, can cause numbness, pain and tingling in the hand or arm as a result of one of the major nerves of the hand — the median nerve — being compressed in the wrist. The American College of Rheumatology says that CTS may be the most common nerve disorder experienced today, affecting between four and 10 million people in the United States alone. Middle-aged to older individuals are more likely to develop CTS than younger persons, and females are

How To Find Time For Fitness

Many adults admit to having little or no time to exercise, and statistics support the notion that men and women aren’t exercising enough. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, only 21% of adults ages 18 and older met the physical activity guidelines for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity (The World Health Organization recommends that healthy adults age 18 – 64 do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week or do at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week, while also p e r for m i ng mu s c l e -

strengthening activities involving the major muscle groups two days per week.) Commitments to work and family can make it hard to find time to visit the gym or exercise at home. But the benefits of regular exercise are so substantial that even the busiest adults should make an effort to find time to exercise. The following are a handful of ways to do just that. • Embrace multitasking. Instead of plopping down on the couch to watch television, bring a tablet to the gym or the basement and stream a favorite show while on the treadmill or the elliptical. When running errands around town, ride a bicycle or walk

instead of driving. • Cut down on screen time. A 2016 report from The Nielsen Company revealed that the average adult in the United States spent more than 10 hours each day consuming media. That includes time spent using smartphones, tablets, personal computers, and other devices. By reducing that screen time by just one hour per day, adults can create enough free time to meet the WHOrecommended exercise requirements. • Make it a group effort. Involving others can make it easier for adults to find time to exercise. Instead of hosting work meetings in a conference room, take the meeting outside, walking around the office complex while discussing projects rather than sitting stationary around a conference table. At home, take the family along to the gym or go for nightly post-dinner walks around the neighborhood instead of retiring to the living room to watch television. • Redefine date night. Adults who can’t find time for exercise during the week can redefine date night with their significant others. Instead of patronizing a local restaurant on

Friday or Saturday night, enroll in a fitness class together. Parents can still hire babysitters to look after their youngsters while they go burn calories instead of packing them on at local eateries.

cise benefits various parts of the human body, including the kidneys. High blood pressure and diabetes are two of the biggest risk factors for kidney disease, and regular exercise can reduce a person’s risk of both conditions. However, overexertion can strain the kidneys, so adults who exercise, especially novices who need to improve their conditioning, should avoid going too hard at the gym. • Speak with a physician before taking vitamin supplements or herbal remedies. Vitamin supplements and herbal remedies have become very popular in the 21st century, but excessive supplementation can harm the kidneys. Discuss any supplements or herbals remedies with a physician before taking them. • Quit smoking. Just as exercise benefits the body in myriad ways, smoking harms the body in myriad ways. Smoking decreases the blood flow in the kidneys, decreasing their ability to function at optimal capacity. Smoking also increases a person’s risk of high blood pressure and cancer of the kidneys. • Eat healthy. A healthy diet decreases a person’s risk for high blood pressure

When to see a doctor If pain and tingling are affecting activities and sleeping patterns, individuals should see their doctors. Various nonsurgical remedies and therapies may help. If left untreated, any condition that affects nerve function may lead to permanent nerve and muscle damage.

How To Promote Healthy Kidneys Kidney disease is a widespread issue made all the more disconcerting by the fact that many people are unaware they have it. According to the National Kidney Foundation, 26 million American adults have kidney disease, and most don’t know it. And the problem of kidney disease is not exclusive to the United States, as the Canadian Kidney Foundation notes that the number of Canadians being treated for kidney failure has tripled over the last quarter century. Healthy kidneys are something many people take for granted. But those who want to do everything they can to keep their kidneys healthy can consider the following tips, courtesy of the Cleveland Clinic. • Stay hydrated, but avoid overhydration. Many people are familiar with the benefits of drinking water each day, and adequate hydration definitely promotes healthy kidneys. But overhydrating has not been proven to enhance kidney function. The Cleveland Clinic recommends adults drink between four and six glasses of water per day. • Exercise. Regular exer-

different ailment. That’s why a professional diagnosis must be sought when experiencing symptoms related to CTS.

and diabetes. Adhering to a healthy diet and controlling portion sizes can help control weight and blood pressure and contribute to healthy kidneys as well. • Get screened. Adults who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or diabetes should make sure their physicians screen for kidney dysfunction during routine appointments.

Our therapies are for In-Patient, Short Term and Long Term. We are here to bridge the gap between hospital and home. Our transitional care program offers rehabilitative and restorative therapies, patient and family education, and services specific to your individual diagnosis. We will coordinate with your primary physician and other key providers for continuity of care upon your return home.
