Rotary Membership Foundation Seminar Rotarians from across southern Illinois gathered for the Foundation and Membership Seminar sponsored by Rotary District 6510 on July 28 at the Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. In attendance, members of The Rotary Club were introduced to many new ideas as well as plans for the upcoming Rotary year. Current District 6510 Governor Janice Alka applied Rotary’s theme of “Be the Inspiration” to this event. Guest speaker Past District Governor Carl Chinnery discussed using the Rotary Foundation to strengthen membership as well as the importance of eradicating polio. District Membership/Retention coordinator Mary Harvey focused on tips regarding how to grow and keep members while District Foundation Director Lanny Lenker talked about Rotary Foundation donations as well as the fight against Polio. Lanny also awarded the clubs that applied for grant projects this year their checks from the District. District 6510 has awarded almost $50,000.00 to clubs this year in Southern Illinois.

Area Boy Competes In Sr. Honda Championship Ten-year-old Braxton Davis, son of Ben and Chelsey Davis of Centralia, recently continued his quest for the Sr. Honda Championship as he had a two-day race weekend. Last Saturday six cars started and he finished third in his feature. In Sunday's heat number one Braxton started seventh and fin-
ished second. In heat number two he won. With the two heats scored together, that put him on the pole position for the feature, with seven cars scheduled to start. Braxton took off and never looked back, bringing home his fifth feature win for the 2018 year.

Today many are remembering the life and legacy of Arizona's Senator John McCain, who lost his year-long battle with brain cancer at the age of 81. This week the Senator would have been 82. Senator McCain was one of Arizona's favorite sons, and there is no doubt he will be missed on both sides of the aisle. McCain's seat will remain vacant out of respect until he is laid to rest. R.I.P. Trump couldn't hope for a better poster boy for the socalled deep state than a former CIA director who immediately began to sound like a commentator for MSNBC upon leaving government — and, indeed, signed up as a commentator for MSNBC. (some classified). And that's not even touching the surface. And then, of course, there's Al Sharpton, another prominent extreme leftist. As Al rose, so did his "unpaid taxes," accruing more than $4.5 to $4.7 million in state and federal taxes. Sharpton did question the size of the debt but didn't deny he owed back taxes. What's interesting is, according to state officials, the liens are actually greater now than when they were first filed. How long would you or I get by with this one? When will he face his time in court? But back to Paul Manafort.
tice of former top intelligence professionals to keep their political opinions, and especially their wild-eyed rants, to themselves. They understand that, having been entrusted with some of the most sensitive powers of the United States government, they should show forbearance and restraint lest they undermine the reputations of their institutions. Brennan has had no such compunction. Granted, he's acted under provocation. Trump has goaded him on Twitter and launched extraordinary broadsides against the work of U.S. intelligence agencies. Trump often sounds like the guy popping off down at the end of the bar, and he's transformed Brennan into the guy down at the other end of the bar. Advantage: Trump. The president always benefits from the fact that his brand depends on violating norms, whereas if his opponents are baited into violating norms in return, they diminish themselves and their
cause. In a notorious tweet, Brennan accused the president of "nothing short of treason" for his craven performance at a joint press conference with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. This was the first time on record that a prominent elected official ever committed treason — which usually involves giving away the nation's secrets or compromising intelligence assets — at a public event extensively covered by the international media. What did Brennan mean by his charge? He apparently doesn't know. Pressed by Rachel Maddow of MSNBC, Brennan explained, incoherently, that "I said it was nothing short of treasonous. I didn't mean that he committed treason." Oh. Asked pointblank if he thinks that the president is serving the Russian government, he said that "I scratch my head a lot," not the usual standard for alleging that someone committed a capital offense. Brennan's conceit has made him the ideal target for Trump,

since even some of the former intelligence officials who oppose the revocation of his security clearance are uncomfortable with how he has conducted himself. The president's adversaries may consider this unfair, but the institutions Trump targets are best-served by not responding in kind. If the president says that the press can't be trusted because it's so biased, the press should react by being less biased rather than more. If he says that he's being undone by a deep state conspiracy, former intelligence officials should be more restrained rather than less. Brennan either doesn't understand this dynamic or doesn't care. He has threatened a lawsuit, and Trump has welcomed one. The president is happy for a war with the most unhinged representative of the intelligence community at hand, and John O. Brennan is playing his role flawlessly. Rich Lowry is editor of the National Review.

witch hunt continued. Paul Manafort was convicted on 8 of the 18 charges, which could get him up to 80 years in prison at sentencing. If this man is guilty, so be it. My question: Was he treated fairly? However, we know what Hillary Clinton is guilty of, along with husband Bill, even though when it comes to them the left sees no evil, speaks no evil, and hears no evil. Folks, it's time these two face the music for their years of crime sprees, everything from the Clinton Foundation fraud to 33,000 questionable emails deliberately destroyed
The fact is, as the left is licking their lips just waiting in the corner talking impeachment, there have been no charges filed against the President. Another reality is Trump has the power to pardon Manafort. Time will tell! On to Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren's statement on Mollie Tibbetts' murder: She said, "Let's tackle 'real problems' like family separation," as she suggested that preventing family separation at the border should be a more pressing concern than preventing illegal aliens from committing violent crimes. Wonder is she'd feel the same if it was her child or grandchild. All I can say is Build that wall.. .and call it Mollie's Wall! On to our friend Rich Lowry.

EAGLE LIFE
Ministries by: Cliff Sanders
Praying the Lord’s Prayer A vast majority of Americans say that they believe in prayer. The true proof that you believe in prayer is that you actually pray. To have power in prayer you must believe God hears and answers prayer. (Hebrews 11:6) Jesus, the Son of God, prayed often. The disciples were so impressed and impacted by Jesus’ life of prayer that they asked him to teach them to pray. Jesus gave them a model of prayer that has become known as “The Lord’s Prayer”. (Matthew 6:5-13) Praying the Lord’s Prayer everyday will transform your life. I recommend that you memorize “The Lord’s Prayer”. There are five keys that help me memorize and activate scriptures: 1) Read and listen to the scripture; 2) Ruminate or meditate on the scripture passage; 3) Re-imagine the scripture in your mind; 4) Remember or memorize the scrip-
ture; 5) Repeat the scripture verbally and often. Repetition is a key. Repeat the scripture as a prayer. The Lord’s Prayer contains six petitions – three concerning the holiness and will of God and three in taking our personal needs to God. We should not pray The Lord’s Prayer in a ritualistic or rote manner, but as a model guideline in how and what to pray for. Pray these six petitions. OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. (Matthew 6:9) We put our focus on God as our heavenly Father who loves us and cares for us. He desires an intimate personal relationship with his children. He delights in giving them gifts and meeting their needs. (Luke 11:9-13) HALLOWED BE THY NAME. Prayer involves worshiping God for he is worthy. To “hallow” his name is to revere his glorious name and praising and exalting his name. This is how the psalmist David
instructed us to enter into God’s presence. (Psalm 100) THY KINGDOM COME. (Matthew 6:10) A friend of mine wears a t-shirt that reads – “Bringing Heaven to Earth”. Heaven invades earth when we pray. We pray for the spiritual manifestation of the kingdom of God in hearts, lives, and situations. We also pray for the kingdom of God to come to earth with its ultimate fulfillment in the future, when King Jesus comes to rule and reign on earth. THEY WILL BE DONE. (Matthew 6:10) We must sincerely desire and pray that God’s will be done in our lives and on the earth. (Matthew 6:33) Pray that God’s will as revealed in the Word of God be done (i.e. salvation, healing, and preaching the gospel throughout the world.) OUR DAILY BREAD. Jesus taught us to pray for our daily needs trusting our heavenly Father to supply them. (Philippians 4:19) FORGIVE US OUR SINS AS WE FORGIVE. (Matthew 6:12) In prayer, we confess our sins and ask forgiveness. (I John 1:9) We must also forgive those who have harmed us. Jesus said, “For if you
5
forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14-15) On the cross Jesus prayed for those who crucified him, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:3) Forgiveness is vital to your physical health, spiritual health and eternal destiny DELIVER US FROM EVIL. (Matthew 6:13) Satan plots evil against God’s children. We must not forget to pray for God’s deliverance and protection. (Psalm 92; Matthew 12:18) FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY. (Matthew 6:13) We should begin and end prayer with thanksgiving, giving glory to God for answered prayer. Remember the true proof that you believe in prayer is that you actually pray. Never underestimate the power of prayer. One small prayer can change your life. Pray the Lord’s Prayer every day. It will transform your life.

HOME IMPROVEMENT
Special Section
Complete These Home Improvements Over The Weekend
Home improvement projects ramp up when the weather warms up, as homeowners channel the rejuvenating feelings of spring and tackle their home to-do lists. Largescale renovations can
greatly affect a home, but smaller projects can yield impressive results and be completed over the course of a single weekend. If time is of the essence, these weekend or one-day projects may satisfy home-
owners’ desires to fix up their homes. • Create an accent wall. Painting a focal wall in a home can create a serious impact. The bonus is it will not take as long or require as many materials as paint-

ing an entire room. Accent walls frequently feature a bold color, so decide on placement and tackle this project in less than a day. • Install stair runners. Dress up hardwood stairs with decorative carpet runners. Runners come in elongated pieces of carpeting or individual pieces that can be placed on each step. If carpeting doesn’t fit with the home’s design, painting individual stair treads also can create visual appeal. • Dress up the entryway. An entryway is a guest’s first impression of a home. Many entryways can use a minor overhaul, both inside and outside. Paint the front door a different color so it pops from the curb. Install a new mailbox or decorative house numbers. A new welcome mat can change the look as well. Inside, consider laying a new floor. Resilient vinyl tiles come in many different patterns and can mimic the look of wood, travertine or marble. Installing a floor can take a day or two. • Install a new faucet. Instantly improve a kitchen or a bathroom with new fixtures. New faucets can provide aesthetic appeal and low-flow faucets can help conserve water. • Create a gallery on the staircase. Gather and arrange framed photos, artwork or wall accents so that they ascend the wall of a staircase. This creates a designer touch and can dress up an often barren area of wall space. • Install a fresh light fixture. Improve drab spaces with a little illumination. Better Homes & Gardens suggests replacing an existing fixture with something new and vibrant. If hanging a new fixture is not within one’s skill set, free-standing table or floor lamps also can cast a new
glow on a space. • Add molding. Molding can add instant aesthetic appeal to a room. Molding is appropriate near the floor, at the top of walls where they meet the ceiling, or even mid-wall as a chair rail. Some homeowners like to create framed molding on walls in formal living spaces. • Update kitchen or b at hro om hardware.
Replacing hardware is a fast and easy project, but one that can have immediate impact. Swap out tired or outdated hardware for newer brushed metals and more impactful shapes and designs. Home renovations do not need to take weeks or months. Many projects can be completed over the course of a weekend.

Expand Living Spaces With Clever Ideas Homeowners looking to add more space to their homes do not necessarily need to make major renovations. They simply have to see the possibilities in outdoor living spaces. Outdoor living spaces are coveted niches in a home. The American Home Furnishings Alliance says more than 70 percent of American households have outdoor living spaces, and nearly 70 percent of people use these spaces at least once per week in-season. Furthermore, homeowners are increasingly interested in enhancing these spaces to make them more usable and comfortable. A recent survey from the
online home design and remodeling resource Houzz found that more than 4,500 users were planning a landscape update. In addition, 56 percent of homeowners surveyed were making updates to improve their yards for entertaining. While the creation of outdoor living spaces can cost thousands of dollars depending on the renovation, homeowners have more budget-friendly options at their disposal as well. The following are some ways to create inviting spaces no matter how much square-footage is present. Revamp a garage or shed. Rather than turning a storage area into a catch-all
for items time forgot, clean out the space and put it to better use. For instance, kids may appreciate their own clubhouse away from the main living area. These spaces also can be handy bonus rooms for when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate and backyard guests need to seek shelter. Wall art, curtains, a pendant light, and some comfortable outdoor-compatible furniture can quickly transform a space. Create a relaxing nook. Whether there’s a ledge, overhang, small terrace, or porch off the house, turn it into a relaxing area for reading a book or sipping a beverage. Use a few
outdoor pillows, pull up a small folding table and dress the area with hanging lights and potted plants for a quiet retreat. Add privacy to a porch.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Your honesty might upset some people, but you inevitably win more admirers for having the courage to tell the truth when others are more likely to scramble for cover. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your efforts to defend your project begin to show favorable results. You should soon be able to win over even the most determined detractors who had lined up against it. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You win praise for your selfless efforts in a very difficult situation. But be careful not to allow your generous nature to be exploited by those who have their own agenda. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A trusted colleague sheds light on a recent spate of puzzling workplace situations. This should give you the information you need to bring to your superior’s attention. LEO (July 23 to August 22) A shift in workplace management could be helpful for talented Leos and Leonas who have been waiting to have their accomplishments rewarded by receptive leadership. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) A misunderstanding between you and someone you care for should be corrected immediately. This relationship is too important to lose over a bruised ego. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A welcome piece of good news helps clear the air in a family

situation. A job-related incident also eases as more information provides a clearer focus on the problem. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Quick action to heal bruised feelings pays off in a big way. Now you’ll be able to move forward with your plans without that problem holding you back. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Your creativity combined with a positive attitude should give you a considerable edge in finding a way to get around the negativity you’ve run into. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) That sudden streak of stubbornness could cause some problems. Try to be more open to helpful suggestions and more flexible in making needed changes. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Now that that special relationship appears to be well and truly restored, you can spend more time dealing with those long-needed workplace changes. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A new opportunity sounds promising. But watch out for any conditions that might be attached. Before making a decision, ask that each one be explained in detail.
