Community Blood Drive To Be Held

or

The Central PA Blood Bank’s Community Blood Drive is planned at Fairmount for Thursday, April 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Registration for the blood drive will be held inside the Farm Crest Community Room at 1100 Farm Crest Drive on the east side of the Fairmount campus. You may schedule an appointment by calling 18007710059. Walkins are welcome until 6:00 p.m., but scheduled appointments will be given priority. Please bring a photo ID with you when you come to donate. All donors will receive coupons and a gift card for donating blood. Please take this opportunity to donate blood. Since there is no substitute for human blood, and donors are the only source, this is a wonderful gift to those in need from all walks of

life. Every two seconds, someone needs blood, and the demand for blood continues to increase. In Central Pennsylvania, 275 to 300 units of blood and blood products are needed at area hospitals daily. An adequate supply is crucial to the survival of cancer patients, accident victims, children with blood disorders, and many others. Your donation helps to save and enhance the lives of these people, as just one pint of your blood can save as many as three lives.

NEWS

In the summer of 2023 we took over my parents’ business - Martin’s Pretzel Bakery in Akron. Being in the family for 3 generations, we wished to build it back up to a profitable business and keep it going. In this process we noticed many of our customers who stopped by were from a distance. The locals didn’t seem to know we existed!

We tried a few places to advertise with very little results. That’s when we decided to try advertising in The Shopping News. The results were instantaneous and the local customers came! Just as I thought, many had no idea we were here. Every time we advertise with The Shopping News - the results are the same! We are so grateful to all of the people at The Shopping News for helping bring attention to this long time business which is now growing again. Eric is always great to work with.

Please watch for our ad for Pretzel Day, April 26. Our pretzels can also be found in local stores.

Yes, dear readers, this is Leap Year and next Monday is that extra day which is thrown in every four years. According to ancient folklore, the 29th day of February is an unlucky day. In fact, the ancients had problems with the entire year. Matters were turned on their heads…and young ladies could ask young men to marry them.

This extra day used to be the last day in the year and it was added to the month of February, because according to the Roman calendar, February was the last month in the year and the new year began on March 1. ***

T.H. Harter, the former editor and proprietor of the Keystone Gazette of Bellefonte wrote numerous dialect columns under the nom de plume of “Gottfried Boonastiel.” These articles were first published from time to time in the Middelburg Post, of which Harter was editor until 1894, and subsequently in the Keystone Gazette. In 1904, Harter published a selection of these articles under the title of Boonastiel. A Volume Of Legend, Story And Song In “Pennsylvania Dutch.” This Boonastiel volume has become one of the classics of Pennsylvania German literature.

Upon reading ES SCHALKYAAHR, our readers will immediately understood the popularity of the Boonastiel columns and the popularity of the Boonastiel book. ES SCHALKYAAHR is vintage Boonastiel. Harter deftly takes the notion of the girl proposing to the boy and turns it into a classic tale of the lovesick boy finally finding his cure in his accepted proposal.

Those who in their ignorance insist that Pennsylvania German is no language, has no grammar, no literature, etc., need but to turn to the writings of the late T.H. Harter for examples of some of the most beautiful Pennsylvania German prose.

First Church To Hold Messianic Seder

What do the Jewish holiday of Passover and the Last Supper have in common?

The church is located at 68 North Church Street, Ephrata.

“Don’t take it lightly”

(Last installment of 4 part series.)

Author: Wenger

Scripture: Romans 2:4“Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and restraint and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?”

We have looked at God’s kindness, restraint and patience, which leads us to a change of mind…repentance. We also considered God’s patience for the unbeliever in salvation and the believer in sanctification. Now for our final installment

we look toward our nation. God’s patience, and kindness should lead us to repentance.

Billy Graham once said, “If God doesn’t judge America, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” If ever we needed repentance (180 degree change of mind) as a nation, it is now. God has blessed this country because its foundation was biblical. Countries from all over the world have studied our constitution and founding principles to discover the key to freedom and prosperity we enjoy. For so many years America has been a city on a hill, a light to the world. There hasn’t been many needs in the world that America hasn’t been there to aid. We were a nation of strength and that’s the only way to keep tyranny at bay. We have enjoyed unparalleled freedom and blessing in this country.

The Bible is clear, many travel the road of destruction

and few are on the narrow path that leads to salvation. As a nation that has always been true as well, but in the past we at least held to similar values and beliefs. Biblical principles and commands are written into the DNA of the universe. No one breaks the law of God… they may break themselves against God’s law. Today, we have no common core of beliefs. We are more divided then any time in our history as a nation in regard to our worldview. Remember the words of our Lord, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” When Israel turned from God’s law and worshiped false gods, He brought judgment. As longsuffering and patient as God is according to our verse, He wants repentance and turning back to truth, justice and righteousness, which are the byproducts of true worship. Do you

remember the maniac of Gadara of whom Christ cast out the legion of demons? He cast them into the large herd of pigs who were nearby. What happened next? The pigs rushed violently down the hill and over the cliff into the sea, perishing in the waters below. To me, this is what is happening to America. The insane ideas, foolish invented virtues, outright lies, deception, and unparalleled moral corruption will end judgment if we don’t repent. We are like the pigs rushing to our own selfdestruction.

God always called out the Jewish nation for their rebellion, sending His prophets so that they would repent and return. Make no mistake about it, God will, and does judge. One verse that comes to mind is Zephaniah 1:12 “At that time I will search in Jerusalem with lamps, and I

will punish the men who are complacent, those who say in their hearts, “The Lord will not do good, nor will he do ill.” I can’t help but think of Ukraine and Russia. The Ukrainians were going about their business, able to buy and sell, living in their homes, and in a matter of days, once the attack began, they had to flee from their country with only what they could carry.

As a nation, the only prescription for this ailment is repentance and seeking God’s forgiveness. We need a revival in the worst way. We are not the salt and light we need to be. Salt was a preservative in the ancient world. It prevented meat from rotting. Light dispels darkness. Could it be that we are the problem? It’s a spiritual battle that we face. The forces of evil are prevailing due to our neglect. We need to be willing to say the uncomfortable, offer a chall-

enge, speak the truth in love.

There is no better way to close, “If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Let’s not think lightly of the goodness, kindness and patience of God, it’s time (Romans 13:11a) “and that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep!”

Warwick Released Time Receives Donation

Abigail

Zimmerman

Junior

Abigail Zimmerman, daughter of Titus and Nicole Zimmerman, is an extremely hardworking senior at Cocalico High School. This year, Abigail has challenged herself by taking classes such as AP Calc AB and BC, British Literature, Spanish IV, and she is also enrolled in a psychology course through HACC. Outside of her classes, she is part of her church’s worship team, and she used to coach a girls middle school volleyball team. In addition to this, she is employed at The Brickerville House Restaurant. Abigail is extremely proud of being accepted into Liberty University through early admission. She plans to take a gap year first though in hopes of saving up money to graduate without debt. Abigail is also proud of getting the grades she has gotten throughout school. In the future, Abigail’s dream job is to own a bed and breakfast in a coastal town. She also loves to travel and experience new cultures, and she hopes to take a trip to Spain at some point in her life.

In her free time, Abigail enjoys hunting, reading, playing sports, and spending time with her family. She also enjoys spending her time outside doing yard work and tending to her flower garden. Her parents are huge role models for her because “they are hardworking, loving, and raised me to walk with the Lord,” she explained. A quote that leads Abigail’s life is the Bible verse Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Abigail is an extremely motivated and hardworking student, and we wish her the best of luck in her future!
