Learn the proper way to fold a flag and flag etiquette. This program is presented by the Lititz VFW. The program is geared for children ages eight and up.

This coming Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5, will be an exciting weekend at Big Spring Farm, located at 735 Spruce Road in New Holland, just off Route 322. The annual Big Spring Farm Days are always wellattended with numerous farm related-demonstrations, tractor parades, hit and miss engines on display, weaving loom demonstrations, thresh- ing demonstrations, good food and so much more.
The event kicks off on Friday with Hay Day beginning at 1:00 p.m. Visitors will get to see how haymaking was done in yesteryear, from basic hand scythe, to horse-pulled machines. On Saturday, the event continues with tractor parades, steam engine log sawing, German singing, bread baking, threshing demonstrations and plenty of activities to share and learn about local farm heritage. Saturday events run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Anyone needing more information may call Lewis Leid at 717-475-0318.
The top photo of four beautiful horses pulling a Conestoga wagon was taken by our photographer at a previous Farm Days event. The remaining images include local harvest-related scenes captured recently. Shown going clockwise are: (middle left) a tractor baling square bales on a farm near Intercourse; (middle right) a local farmer with his two sons heading down the road pulling double wagons loaded with round hay bales; (bottom right) a tense moment when a huge harvester had to pass a buggy, and the horse was less than thrilled; (bottom left) an Amish boy operating a horse-drawn hay rake, while his father operates a baler in the background.
Enjoy what’s left of summer, because it’s flying by!
