Filtration is basically a device for separating solids from fluids (liquids or gases) by interposing a medium, hence filtration is commonly a process of separation. However to consider a sense of human scale filtration process would give some idea of spatial experiences and people emotional changes. The diagram above shows that in general filtration system include several layers (vertical or horizontal) at the same time each of the layer has different density of its components like stone, gravel, clay etc. For instance, in the other words, when gray water goes through a filter, it experience various spatial density through the filtration process. My study would examine the translation of filtration system into spatial structure.

The diagram above shows the contents of facade structure which is composed by three types of pillars. These combination (or order), like a - b - c or c - b - a or b - a - a ect., would be determined by surrounding contextS, environment and types of adjacent building. The aim of the facede design and its concept is, to create fluid connection in-between buildings, and also indoor and outdoor.

The concept of facade design is based on the research for filtration system. The density of structures, like pillars and walls, directly affects human activities. The diagram above shows that the different spans in between pillars. ( a, b, c ) Each span is determined by physical criteria. a: one person can go through at once, approximately more than 900mm. b: two persons can not go through at once, approximately more than 2000mm. c: more than two persons can go through at once, approximately more than 3000mm.

The short juorney through the facade would stimulate people to have various feelings. The serise of facades reacts differently, when you enter the building and when you go out from the building. For instance, as you can see the diagram above, when you go through the series of facede from outdoor to indoor (course 1 : c - b - a ), the change of the series of structures would help to address your focus (or attention) into inside space. On the other hands when you go through the series of facade from indoor to outdoor (course 2 : a - b - c ), the change of the series of structures would help to release your stress and it would make trangitional change from inside to outside. Also when you go through the series of facade from outdoor to indoor (course 1 : a - b - c ), the change of the series of structures would help to gather people who come from different direction and makes intimate atmosphere to visiters. On the other hands when you go through the series of facade from indoor to outdoor (course 2 : c - b - a ), the change of the seriese of structures would provide various viewlines to outdoor or next destination. This effect is simillar to set a photoframe to emphasize one spesific image or scenery.
