About

Growing up in the West, I have always been drawn to sea and mountains, and to the work of artists who have interpreted these subjects. Today I find further motivation in the many new and expanding ideas about art, from representation to abstraction. My concern is not with copying what I see, but with expressing a feeling, a story or a visual idea. And I hope this produces work that evokes in the viewer a feeling of shared experience and a deeper connection with the natural world.

Quorum Gallery Resident Artist Contact Emilee: 714.420.9015 Quorom Gallery Page

About

“I paint whatever I see that is striking…something that takes my breath away.” While Emilee admires watercolor pieces done in soft, light washes, she goes for “the gusto” and drama of bold, colorful artwork. Due to the vivid colors, many who view her work at first think the medium must be acrylic….and now she also uses acrylics in her “Paint Pouring” art pieces as well. Emilee accepts custom orders, and also specializes in personal paintings for her clients. These pieces are called “Favorite Things”. The piece is composed of the recipient’s….favorite things. Retired after over 30 years with the Walt Disney Co., Emilee lives and paints in Anaheim, California. She is a published artist, a Board Member and Juried Exhibitor at Laguna Art-A-Fair in Laguna Beach, a Juror, an Art Demonstrator and conducts Watercolor and Paint Pouring workshops and lessons at Laguna Art-A-Fair, Art Supply Warehouse/Catalyst and in her Anaheim studio. Emilee is a member of Watercolor West, Spark OC and Orange County Fine Arts Association. Emilee’s artwork is available at the Quorum Gallery located in Laguna Beach, CA.

About

I grew up in Los Angeles, California. My art education was a mix; being mentored by artists such as Csaba Markus and Jeremy Lipking coupled with attending the very challenging atelier format of study at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art. As a child, I owned a book on Monet that illustrated his paintings from when he was in his late teens, all the way to his last paintings. I remember as I grew up, I grew up along side that book, constantly comparing where I was at respective to my age, in comparison to where Monet was at painting wise. Of course, when Monet was 25, he was painting better than I would be painting even now at 35. But the point was not to be as good as Monet. There were some of Monet’s paintings that seemed almost dream like. He was a composer but with a paint brush. I took that license over my own work to attempt to transcend stark reality and create my own perspective of what it is like to live here in Los Angeles. There can be a bleakness coupled with a sense of humor, added with the life giving nature of the blue skies and palm trees, only to be reconciled with the glow of the Los Angeles evening air. It’s really beautiful here, even when the world seems like it’s hurting. My work seeks to pull the viewer out of the harsh reality of life and place your eyes on why I find it to be so lovely, funny, and poetic to live here in California.
