About My name aside, who I am is something I’m honestly still trying to figure out. Pertaining to the project, however, I’m just your average schmo making an effort to give more of themselves. I realised I contributed to a problem and now I’m trying to do things differently – to care more.

Mark Burrell Returned to the Earth | 2021 Found Fabric, Gloss Paint and Chinagraph Pencil on Canvas and Board | 61 x 61 x 3 cm £1800
Kent United Kingdom
Mark Burrell markburrellartist@outlook.com markburrell-artist.com
About This piece is one of a series of paintings based on the theme of mortality. Over the last year, like many others, the experience of lockdown and a pandemic has enabled me to spend a lot of time contemplating not only my own mortality but also that of those around me. Although physically dark in tone, I feel there is much joy in the image, it is conceived as a celebration of human spirit. The seemingly simplicity of things underscoring the more complex and layered ideas of what it is to be alive. For me the circle motif creates a portal for the viewer directly into the painting, a device to move the eye over the surface. These paintings therefore become a simple support for meditation and reflection, an artifice serving to fix the viewers’ attention for a time.

Lorraine Cooke raincooke@googlemail.com aa2a.biz/network/user/lorraine
About Lorraine Cooke is a professional artist and curator, exhibiting internationally. She graduated from Norwich school of Art and Design (UK) with a BA(hons) in Fine Art in 2003 and Northampton University with an MA in Fine in 2011. Cooke works between both the UK and Cyprus and she contributed to the Paphos European Capital of Culture programme in 2017. Past collaborations have included the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and the Sainsbury Institute for Study of Japanese Arts and Culture, Norwich, UK. Cooke is noted as a Saatchi Art ‘Artist of recognition’ with work included in the ‘Inspired by Miro’ Saatchi Collection. She is an AA2A Engage Member (active role model for students, providing insights into professional life as an artist outside UK universities.)
Curator Review Kinetic Blue Artist Lorraine Cooke’s energetic and quite visceral piece, resonates with automatism in an absolutely liberated manner. Cooke’s spatial segues and interplay of cool and warm tones, contrasts with translucent layers, forming a conglomerative visual force. Her connective piece flows from one singular refrain to the next, manifesting an almost auditory experience. - E.E. Jacks

About I wanted to be a photographer when I was 15, but my mother said I could always take it up later as a hobby – so that was that for 30 years! I ended up reading English at Oxford and working as a strategy consultant for a few years before retiring at the age of 29. I then travelled round the world for seven years, doing four ski seasons and working on an internet start-up in San Francisco before finally returning to London in 2005. At that point, consulting work felt too stressful, so I decided to go ‘quality of life’. I’m now a private tutor and international award-winning wildlife photographer.

About Growing up, coffee was a forbidden thing for kids in my household. I was a highly energetic child and the last thing I needed was more stimulants, but my mother would reward good behavior by tipping a sip of her coffee into my mug of milk every now and then. I loved the taste and naturally craved more of the forbidden elixir. I studied human behavior as my master’s degree. Through a collaboration of science and art, I became interested in exploring the parallels of human fragility and emotions to the evolution of current times and the passing of time. Like human behavior, my work is largely based in the abstract but I am able to guide the canvas by adding different variables in the making.

Córdoba Spain
Celeste Fernández Moncada celestefdezmoncada@gmail.com celestefdezmoncada.wixsite.com
About Born in the South of Spain (Córdoba, 1996) and postgratuated in Fine Arts by Seville University (2020), she is currently coursing a Master in Fine Arts about contemporary issues and artistic production. Since she was a child, she has always felt attracted to arts in many ways, from painting and drawing, to sports leaded by corporal expressivity, such as Rhythmic Gymnastics. She is actually living in Jerez de la Frontera, where she is also working on her painting and photograph everyday. Her work has been exhibited in groups expositions like “Bronce de Bellas Artes” (Sevilla, 2020), Sierra Elvira Art Contest (Granada, 2020), Artdoc Magazine Virtual Exhibition (2020), “Jóvenes Talentos” Guijuelo (2020), “Certamen Joven Artes Plásticas” (Calamonte), y “Persona” (Club Lumex, Rumanía).
Curator Review Two Cameras, One Pocket This absolutely fantastic contemporary portrait is a triumph in ‘perspective’. Moncada has strategically poised both her figure and the viewer as her ‘subjects’, creating a piece that celebrates the narrative of attitude, aspect and being. Her attention to detail whilst letting the paint speak in loose strokes and thin washes, gives depth and warmth to the entire piece, keeping the viewer transfixed. -E.E. Jacks

New York United States of America
Matt Gold mgold32@yahoo.com instagram.com/mattgoldphoto
About Matt Gold is based in Brooklyn, NY, where he divides his time between music and photography. As evidence of the democratizing nature of his approach to photography, Gold has no formal training in the visual arts. His first image, a picture of his cat on a Sony Ericsson Z310A flip phone, was taken in 2008, and he has continued to explore the aesthetic possibilities of that instrument. Gold’s work has been featured in numerous publications and journals.
Curator Review #634 This amorphous, mixed media work by artist Matt Gold, breathes out no defined point of departure. Gold’s abstract yet articulate work, eliminates the obvious and delves into the exhalation that is expression. By eliminating the extraneous and embracing passage and expansion, a better comprehension of the metaphysical world can be felt. In soft layers and mottled ‘moments’ a wondrous story of evolution unfolds here. -E.E. Jacks

About I’m trying to express beauty as I see it. I like to explore various mediums, shapes and ideas, I enjoy interacting with matter, word and sound. Sometimes color. Strange and meaningful stories are showing up at my door. There is a mystery residing in life, in those little moments of our mundane life. I feel that art is a safe shore. When I land there, I can hunt for the magic of beauty and poetry, capture the soothing light of a song. It is all about my courage: how deep I can go into my wild forests of wishes, delights and fears. Everything and everyone that shaped me so far, created fertile ground for more and more essential questions that lead me to cross boundaries. In any quest for truth, uncharted territories await.

Ira Stein I’m from the Devil Island | 2016 Acrylic on Canvas | 27 x 24 in POR
California United States of America
Ira Stein ira@irastein.com irastein.com
About In Stein’s works, you are provoked to think about genetics and behavior. What his art does best is to engage our minds on this particular subject.. With Stein’s precision sight, his focus on essentialism solicits an examination of nature/ nurture philosophy contrasted with the expanding scientific knowledge of genetics. Stein is brutally honest, and this bluntness is apparent throughout his paintings, sculptures and mixed media works. A Vietnam Veteran (he served as a pilot in the thick of action), Stein brings his visceral perspective to our attention with force - either shocking our senses to conjure unease, surprise and alarm in the viewer or capturing our attention with the lurid, often vulgar stories of the subjects’ lives. text

Tokyo Japan
Sachi Yoshimoto sachiyoshimotoart@gmail.com sachiyoshimotoart.com
About Sachi Yoshimoto is a Tokyo based self-taught artist who works mainly in oil medium. She loves the warmth that the medium gives to her work. Artistically inclined from a young age, Sachi has worked diligently to bring her art to life. In 2013, after years of amateur work, Sachi decided to pursue her art wholeheartedly. Sachi’s style of work is “true-to-life,” focusing on the breath she finds in organic and inorganic objects. Her vision is to bring life into the objects she’s attracted to in everyday life. Apart from regular art commissions, Sachi often donates certain pieces and commission profits to animal charities she loves. Like her art, Sachi continues to evolve and improve. Her ultimate aim is to have her artistic journey make everyone’s life a little brighter.
Curator Review Fragrant Charms A unified relationship between color, design and form, can always be found in artist Sachi Yoshimoto’s work. Her dedicated exploration of light, body and texture, renounces the norm as she boldly dives into the medium itself. With strong painterly strokes and gestures, Sachi stresses the importance of ‘controlled spontaneity’ and at the same time exudes a sensitive and thoughtful approach to the ‘Still Life’. -E.E. Jacks

About My name is Shir Zalcman and I am thirty-five years old. I am an Israeli artist based in central Israel. focusing on acrylic and charcoal mediums painted on a variety of canvas sizes. I paint shapes and colours that elicit the emotional experience of my everyday. As a self-taught artist, I continued my love for art by receiving my Masters in art therapy. Using palette knives, brushes, and charcoal, I create depth in my paintings with texture and line work. Choosing soft colour palettes, I let the textures become shapes by layering them together. creating bolder impressions of shifting perspectives, the lines of charcoal evoke a delicate and dreamy composition of being between two dimensional and three dimensional states.
Curator Review Red View Like an internal monolith, this abstract scape exudes authenticity and delves into veracity. Zalcman’s wondrously emotive work, boldly exacts attention from the viewer. Her fearless articulation utilizes several techniques and appears to be in a constant state of movement and flux. This enigmatic piece most certainly speaks of something beyond the obvious whilst touching on the primitive, in raw, unimpeded expression. - E.E. Jacks
