Memories of Water

MEMORIES OF WATER

WATER to me meant powerful force of rivers, rivers that were

considered sacred, nurtured and worshiped. Along side, it also meant the tranquility of lakes, lakes that are large water storage tanks for my city. This report is a collection of my experiences with water in varying scales, dimensions and its relationship with other elements like earth and sky. Water in every form has been seen as all encompassing and ever present form. My outlook on water has now been enhanced, only due to this insightful module offered by Prof. Herbert Dreiseitl.

FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH WATER

Travel in my country, brought me in contact with the encompassing forces of nature. I was 12 when I first bathed in the pristine river Ganga at Rishikesh, India. It was early in the morning, on one end was the blazing red sun slowly rising over the misty grey horizon and just below me was the continuously flowing water at high speeds. To enter the water at such speed seemed adventurous. The very first dip in the chilled water brought adrenalin rush into my body, mind and soul, along with it came the feeling of fear, the fear of being drowned away. Standing still inside for a while and remembering the values I learnt about River Ganges, helped me built up trust and introduced courage that guided me to acclimatise to this powerful entity of water. After every further dip into the water, I felt embedded deeper and deeper. This feeling of connection was not just a result of removal of dirt from my body but also the inclusion of positivity and purification of my mind and soul, that this experience brought. This is when I felt spiritually connected to the Holy river Ganga.

The dynamism, spirituality and embeddedness of the river raised the questions of self awareness in me. This also developed my understanding of the divinity through observation, rejuvenation, restoration and celebration of our core existence.
